Korvanjund impossible to get through

Post » Wed May 23, 2012 1:26 am

Despite my personal experiences with Skyrim being very glitch free I've hit a (literal) wall now and I'm not sure if it's a glitch or just bad programming.

To get to the point: I joined the Imperial Legion and did the initiation quest for them very early on, but I didn't actually start the Jagged Crown quest until about 2 or 3 days ago. Now, prior to starting it, I had come across Korvanjund and cleared the outside section of bandits and had gone inside the door only to find a single bandit and the path ahead blocked by rubble so I didn't think much of it and just left after grabbing whatever looked valuable.

Upon starting the Jagged Crown however, everything went smoothly until Rikke and I got inside. I figured there was a hidden door or something I had missed and it was going to open up, but Rikke and Co. just ran straight to the rubble and spent a good 5 minutes running in front of it. I thought maybe a script had messed up and dialog was supposed to happen so I waited for 2 hours, only to find when the wait screen ended that Rikke and Co. had disappeared to further inside the dungeon, which wasn't surprising, but left me at a loss as to whether or not there's a way past the rubble.

I've spent a good while checking out the small interior section I have available and I've noticed the rubble allows projectiles and weapon swings to pass through it, but my actual character and my shouts are treating it like it's a wall. The bodies of the bandits outside the dungeon are still there, so I'm thinking (hoping) that maybe the rubble will disappear alongside the bodies after a while.

I'm curious as to if anyone else has hit this particular issue and if there's a way around it (besides starting a new character, thank you). I'm assuming that the rubble isn't normally there and only shows up if you enter prior to starting the quest (presumably to prevent you from screwing with quest items), but if that's the case it looks like either Beth forgot to put in a means for the rubble to be removed or it's glitched out on me.

Gonna bump this once, just because I posted it pretty late at night.

If i remember correctly when doing that quest a "cave-in" happens. The imperials say something about finding another way around and that becomes your job.

I'd say look harder. hopefully it's not a glitch :P

Haha, thanks for the reply. I spent a while looking around but I couldn't find anything so I guess I'll check out the area again next time I'm around.

So I went back, and made no progress. There doesn't seem to be a way of getting past the rubble. I tried clearing my cache and that did nothing (not that I expected it too).

I watched some videos on youtube of the quest, and it looks like I was right, assuming you only go to Korvanjund after starting the quest there isn't anything in your way when you enter, seems to only happen if you go there prior to starting the quest. I found one other person with the same problem as me, but they didn't have any clue as to how to progress further either.

Hopefully a patch fixes it, I'm at Lv 40, done a ton of stuff, don't really feel like starting over now but I was quite looking forward to the Legion so hopefully this is something Beth can fix

Alright, I went back there on my character quite confused because there was no such rubble that early. So, on my newly created character that hasn't done anything other than head to Whiterun, I went and checked it out.

The rubble at the very beginning you are experiencing was there, and there is no way around it I can find. As you guessed, I imagine it is there to keep you from getting the Jagged Crown before starting the quest, however your game seems to have glitched and not cleared it up. Do you have a previous save that isn't too far back? Losing two to five hours is a lot better than having to restart. I know I've had to revert and lose progress quite a few times.

For clarity: There is a part later in the dungeon where your path is blocked and it's up to you to find the way around it, but this is not that part.

No, I started up the quest back at level 20 and didn't get around to actually doing it until after I had beat the story at level 34, at that point I ran into the problem. Going back would be pretty much borderline restarting the game.

Again, hopefully this is something a patch can fix.

I sided with the Stormcloaks and did this Quest, and it worked fine though I hadn't been inside earlier. The same "path blocked later" thing happens then as well, but it looks like you've perma-glitched your file. You'll have to wait for a patch.

On a side note, why on Earth does anyone side with the Empire?

They're Romans, Romans are cool.

But no, for me, I loved the Legion in Morrowind (probably one of my favorite faction questlines, though Morag Tong will always be the best) so I was pretty excited that they'd be joinable (and Roman looking) again in Skyrim.

Here's hoping this problem is noticed and accounted for in the patch, don't want to spend another 100+ hours on the game just to get back to where I am now.

Is there any way to use the unrelenting force shout to push the boulder debris out of the way?

Romans are crap. Vikings and Spartans are better. Plus, is it not right for the Nords to rule their own country? I kill the Thalmor on sight, and I'd be happy to fight the entire Aldmeri Dominion, by myself, at the same time, and with no weapons, and at night. And you know what? I still beat those pointy eared ****ards right back to the Summerset Isle.

And I'm an Argonian. Yeah, bet you didn't think you'd see me on the side of the Stormcloaks, did ya? =P

No, as I pointed out my character and my shouts treat the rubble like it's a solid, flat, wall. Weapons, arrows, and spells all pass through it like nothing is there, though I have a feeling I won't fix my problems by blindly spraying fireballs and arrows everywhere.

It's all a matter of opinion, to be honest I don't really like either in Skyrim's time period. I mainly went with them here because the last Legion questline was fun, and they're a lot less racist than the Stormcloaks (which is why my Dark Elf will be siding with them, lolololol).

Im having the same exact problem with the rubble. I hope it gets fixed with a patch but i highly doubt that. I wish we could have profiles on these types of games so we could have more than 1 player but I dont mind starting over that much because i want to better choices with my character. My perk points are all over the place and I play a Breton that dual wields one-handers.

Yeah, I'm hoping that it get's fixed but I have that gut feeling that this one is gonna be ignored.

I'd be glad if Bethesda proved me wrong though.

I've the exact same problem. I've seen videos of it on YouTube so I'm hoping it's widespread enough that a patch will come. Just have to do everything else in the mean time.
I'd say you've hit the nail on the head with the cause as I went into that door before ever getting the Jagged Crown quest too so it must have triggered the blockage.

As regards the Vikings/Romans debate. Romans are way cooler and I know a lot more about them so I'm going to go with their quest line. And the Stormcloaks are a bunch of Nord supremacists!
I'm playing as a dark elf so it wouldn't really fit to side with the Stormcloaks.

Have the same Problem with the Cave In. Please patch it!!!! Legion rules. The Stormcloaks just seem a tad bit racist to me.

I somehow glitched myself into the area beyond the rubble. Hoorraahhh.
Then again...
I could not get back out because the stupid rubble was still there.

Too bad. I thought I had conquered that stupid glitch.

Stupid stupid stupid.

I've not done this quest I don't think, but I'm assuming your're already inside a cave. Have you tried exiting the cave and looking for alternate entracnce? Maybe that's the key.

No, there was no other way outside the cave. I had to reload another save.

Umm....You can have multiple characters. Go to main menu and select "new game", simple.

Dude I understand your desperation and I hate to break it to ya but you're not going to find a fix. Did you notice the OP and other's with this problem have stopped posting here?

Also even when Bethesda does fix this particular bug it's not going to help you any. Quest bug fixes will be proactive not retroactive.

I didn't have any problem with this quest, but I did have a problem with a later one, where I was gated and couldn't find any way to open them. I used a platter and the glitch that lets you walk through walls to get into the chamber beyond, so you might try that. It took me a bit to find a spot where I could do it, but it finally worked. It's worth trying.
