Lag for Xbox 360

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 6:38 am

I am experiencing an immense amount of lag when loading and when messing with items. It can take 10 minutes to load from one town to the next; when I take items from a chest or sell items to a shopkeeper it takes a long time for the item to be taken or sold. I'm hoping that someone can give me a solution to these problems, because I would really like to get back to playing Skyrim.

How long have you been playing and how big is your save file ? Also, are you connected to Live while playing?

I have a pretty big save, since I've played a lot and done a ton of quest. But I haven't had a problem with lag like this before and I usually play while I'm connected to Live.

EDIT: I just cleared my cache and it didn't help the lag. My save is 11 MB.

I have only lagged once during my 70 hours of play, at a huge ruin with like 20 bandits. But it cleared the instant I slayed this huge spider.
I have done a LOT of quest, finshed companions/mq and done 69 misc quest so my fike size is pretty big. No lag.

Clearing your Cache will NOT delete your saved data, it removes temporary files and updates. Though you will have to re-download all the updates for your games again, these updates don't usually go over 10mb.

This was a problem with Oblivion also. Try this: . -------> To solve this problem, reset your Xbox, and hold down the A button as the game is booting up. If any button is held while Game is loading, it will clear its hard drive cache, and create a new one. " Let us know if it helps.

From looking at this post getting slightly worried the xbox will eventually experience the memory problems like the ps3 currently is, i have about 50 hour's now and my save file is currently at 7mb.

Clearing the cache via memory menu on the settings is the same as holding down A during game boot-up isn't it?

I tried holding down A while it was booting up the game, and it still causes the lag. I'm out of ideas, anyone else have anymore ideas on what to try?

install the game to your HDD if you have one. makes loading much faster and reduces any lag between interfaces

I installed it when I first bought the game just so it could hopefully run smoother, but apparently an 11 MB save is way too much for it to handle.

I'll just make it clear to begin with... I have no vendetta against the 360 or 360 players at all, that would be silly.

If the 360 does suffer the same problems as the ps3 however, there is a better chance that bethesda will prioritise fixing the memory issues on both consoles (assuming it would be the same or a similar issue).

I have to say, for 50 hours of play that's comparatively quite small. Just goes to prove how much it does actually affect frame rate and in game loading.

Do you save over the same file? Or do you make a new save each time. I learned from morrowind that its always best to make a new save each time you save, and delete the old ones. The save will be smaller and less likely to corrupt. Also try installing to a flash drive if you have one. I would normally recommend installing to your hdd in a case like this, but... yeah.

I may have figured out why my game lags. It was only lagging when I went to deal with anything related to items, well I went through my inventory and found a glitched key... I have 16,385 copies of the same key, not sure how or why it happened, but getting rid of them might reduce the lag.

EDIT: Problem solved! I rid my character of those 16,385 keys and the lag is gone. The key was the "Dwemer Museum Key", so if you have any problems with lag in you items or loading you might check and see if you're carrying an ungodly number of keys.

Thank you everyone for the help, I didn't realize how simple the problem was and an easy fix.

Save Game -> Boot back to Dashboard -> Go to Storage -> Select Hard Drive -> Press (Y) -> Clear Cache. Then Restart Xbox and Relaod Your Game.

Also dont Run the Game from Hard Drive, Run it Directly from the DVD Drive.
