I have a slim and I'm experiencing lag. And I'm not talking about the stuttering, I'm talking about it looking like a swift moving slideshow and extremely long loading times (I waited 15 minutes once before I got bored and quit)

Does it happen straight on load or after 2+ hours of gameplay?

There is a BIG difference between a little lag now and then, and unplayable frame rates, please be clear on what your issue is.

I have a 3 month old Slim.

Up to 2 hours playtime: Good framerate sometimes, bad framerate sometimes, terrible framerate in forests and some dungeons with heavy mist / dust effects. Stuttering is often but mainly due to texture loading etc, still often enough to be annoying though. Maybe once every minute if running around in the wild or a big town.

2 hours plus: Game stutters a lot, on average once every ten seconds, same as loading stutters, but all the time. In dungeons or towns in big fights game is basically a slide show. 5 frames per second perhaps.

I have however, had no game ending bugs, only 2 crashes and the only bugs I've had are very minor. BUT after 2 hours the game is borderline unplayable. Especially in hectic fighting.

I have an original 60 gig PS3 with an upgraded HDD (500 gigs). No lag issues whatsoever. My cousin has the same. The framerate is not perfect but I wasn't expecting it to be. I haven't experienced any momentary "freezes" or anything that's worse than Fallout 3 or Oblivion performance wise. It runs much better than both of those games in fact. I honestly think a lot of people are blowing this out of proportion because they expect a silky smooth framerate which just isn't feasible in a game this huge.

Hey guys im from south africa, i got a brand new PS3 about a month a go its a 320gig and its cech-2504b
I also just yesterday bought skyrim and started jamming, and from the first moment with the beginning I have had the worst lag ever, the characters speak when not in sight, the lag in thje game is so bad that when i walk it is like watching a slide show, it is even worse when you need to fight cause then the game just freezes for a few seconds and the plays for a few seconds and freezes again. dont get me wrong it is an amazing game and have been waiting for it a long time, i would really like any advice? i also am sure that you guys are busy working on sorting out the problem, so i just thought i would by letting you know what problems i am having.

It's amusing to me that we keep playing this game... and by game, I mean, trying to find the problem for Bethesda.

This is the same exact problem that all the other Bethesda games have, from Fallout on up. The save file size and the freezing is not new. If they could fix it, they would have. We just keep giving them our money for shoddy programing.

unreal.

I kick myself in the nutz.

Talk to us again once your savefile reaches about 10 mb and you're some 50 hours into the game...

Mate, not everyone has the same problems as you, have you tried returning your game, cause it may be a faulty disk? Some people on here have returned their disk and gotten a new now, now it works fine.

i thing i suggest do the same as i do.....

Play not for many hours but every 2-3 hours save your game manually....restart your PS3...and play again...etc.etc...i thing because the lag of memory on the PS3...its some kind of caching problem with this game particularly.....

have fun.....:))))))

Yeah it's completely bogus that other big games don't have this problem and all these Bethesda ones do.. it's the same freakin texture load problem they all have.

I do what you do. I save after about an hour and restart every two hours. I also turned off all the auto saves and I am real careful about how many times I fast travel. The more you fast travel in one sitting, the more load piles up and you will see big frame drops after just a couple of travels. If I have to travel more than 2 times, I save and quit the game and restart. (just restart the game, not the ps3 in this situation)

It keeps my freezes down to a minimum. The same procedure I used for the Fallout games.

Now Red Dead Redemption on the other hand.... I plat'd that game without a single freeze and never once thought about having to restart the game. Go Figure.
