At least maintain the Art Style!

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 4:43 am

Ok. Maybe I can accept the cartoony graphs. But, please, I beg you Zenimax Online, at least mantain the Art Style!!! This is not TES! TES IS BETTER THAN THAT!!!
Zenimax Online are not capable of capture the essence of the game. I feel sorry for Todd and the "REAL" TES TEAM...

TES IS BETTER THAN THAT!!!

You seem surprised that a different art team, has a different vision of the same thing. Imagine that.

Surprise for this no, no... Surprise because they are not respecting the essence of the series.

A different team is irrelevant, the art style was chosen purposefully, any team can create the same Elder Scrolls art style if they wished.

TESO conforms to a norm found in recent successful MMO's, the art style is different not because of `artistic integrity′ but because it will appeal to the masses as it fits in with what they are used too. I can not say I am happy with the direction either.

No, actually; a different art team is completely relevant. Any team cannot re-create the same style. Know why? Because they're not the same bloody team. Also, yes. It's because they want to confrom to the norm, not because these graphics have a low entry bar for computers, and thus allow more people to play the game. You got it.

This eerily reminds me of the transition from DA:O to DA2 regarding artstyle.... it's happening all over again...

It's not just that they're going in a different direction with the art style; hell, there's been big changes in art direction between games of the main TES series (compare Morrowind to Oblivion). The problem is that they're unimaginatively copying WoW's artistic style, just like how they're unimaginatively copying its gameplay. Lots of people have argued that Oblivion's art style was lazy, but this easily tops it.

Did you play Fallout 3 and New Vegas? Different teams, yet New Vegas managed to maintain the core look and feel of the source material. Imagine that.

On the exact same engine. Not to mention, the people who made NV, were the OG makers of Fallout. If THEY can't stay true to the look and feel of the source material...

Next.

A TES game with colorful environment? Stereotyped sixy females? Guild Wars like characters? The problem here are not different bloody teams. Simple it′s not the real essence of the game.

Ah yes, that argument feel apart with the posts above me. They are professionals, they can create any style asked of them, in this case the art style asked of them was `generic MMO flavour′.

I could elaborate with game sequel examples, but arguing has no interest for me.

You just herp'd the derp, son. No, it won't, but nor will it look the same as previous games. The same way the MMO using a different engine, looks different.

Being a preofessional =/= being able to replicate anything that is asked of you. Let's take the devs working on TES:O, and get them to work on a Japanese Anime-flavour game, and see how well they can work with the style.

ZO are not maintained the identity of the game. The core essence! The engine does not really matter. This not the point. We're talking about Art style!!! Not graphics!!! I saw almost a dozen of pics and my eyes are burning... My heart is crying...

Irrelevant.

Not at all, but nice try. The art style of MMO's is completely different from single player games. Different engines, different goals. The way you learn while working in each field respectively, is massively different. Those things stay with you. If you had them work on TES VI, they'd bring what they learned from MMO's to that game.

You clearly don't understand what the engine really means for a game.

I agree, the game sure looks bland.
[Image removed because of terrible art direction]
The armor looks like something from Spellforce 2 or every other high fantasy game out there.
Nothing about this makes me think of TES.

You've seen one screenshot (which you should take down, by the way) and that's your conclusion? Well, let me tell you; I've seen them all, and in one in particular, there's a set of armor that is very CLEARLY the orcish armor. The helmet looks near identical to the one from Skyrim, and the chest plate is stupid easy to identify as belonging to the Orcish set. Just because two sets of armor don't look like something you've seen before in TES, doesn't mean all the armor is going to be like that.
