Legendary Dragon: when and where should I expect to meet the

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 9:32 pm

So I've read in another thread that when you get to around level 70 or so, you should encounter that Legendary Dragon somewhere, but where and when? I'm at level 68 right now, so I'm hoping to take him on soon, but is there some kind of quest that will lead you to him or what? Just wondering what to look for...

Once you are at the right level to run into them, they become random encounters similar to all other dragons in the game. If you there is a Word Wall somewhere out in the wilds of Skyrim that you haven't gotten by the time you are at level 70, then that might be a place where you can be guaranteed to run into one, but nothing is set in stone.

I have heard mixed info on this as well. I am level 69 and grinding away trying to level up enough to meet the last true challenge in all of Skyrim. I have not seen one yet.

Seems to depend on what difficulty level you are playing on, I doubt those playing on lower than the default adept level would ever see a Legendary Dragon. My highest level character is a level 77 (Adept) who has yet to meet one, despite killing a lot of dragons. My level 61(Adept) is the one who wants to meet one, but she would have to find one on a word wall, she tried getting a couple in the Forgotten Vale dragon fight, but playing on Master difficulty level seemed to get her a Revered Dragon and a lower level one, on Adept and Expert and she got two Revered Dragons. The fight on Master was a lot more challenging though. Aussie could do with some useful shouts, so playing on Master level and just hunting for dragons seems something she will be doing soon.

I'm level 74 and I play on Master. I only ever find, at most, Revered at high-yield locations like Arcwind.

Nearly every single dragon Braggen (77) got since Dawnguard was installed was a Revered Dragon (about 10 instant spawning ones and the 2 in the Forgotten Vale) and he is only on Adept level. Did you complete the main questline Zexis0710?

Difficulty has no effect on what dragons show up. just how much damage they do and take. At level 70 you have a very small percentage of them showing up. but that chance skyrockets with each level you go up from there. at level 81 now its pretty much all I run into. Of course this this has nothing to do with the frequency of dragon attacks on your game, as everyone has a different amount

You can meet them as early as level 50 I believe. My friend encountered one at level 53 and there are videos of people fighting them at level 50 online. The higher your level, the higher the odds of you finding one.

As for where, they show up as random dragon attacks so it could happen pretty much anywhere.

Hmm, seems like I'll just have to keep rambling on across the landscape then, and I'll start making frequent visits back to the areas outside of Whiterun as well. What I've been doing the last couple of days has been just exploring around, and finding (much to my surprise) a few locations that I hadn't found before, stirring up a lot of trouble and getting into fights to help raise my level. I've even changed some of my strategies to level up attributes that I haven't used as much, since the abilities I use most have long since maxed out at 100 on the skill tree. Hopefully I'll run into the elusive Big Bad before too long...

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Funny side note, and a lot of you are gonna laugh: in my travels last night, I ended up passing through Labyrinthian to swat a few trolls that wanted me to kill them, and I ran across Shalidor's Maze, having never discovered it there forever ago when I'd been there for previous quests! I'm sitting here playing and saying aloud to myself "how could I have never noticed this before?" Anyhow, it provided for an amusing distraction for a little while...

I have found 2 so far and would just suggest becoming 78 and then fast travelling to word walls until you find one.

They can be found randomly from level 50. Try checking Dragons bridge, Morthal and Dawnstar. After level 78 there is a chance that they will spawn at dragon lairs.

Do Legendary Dragons drop special loot?

Not sure my one experience is definitive, but: I just used the OI exploit to get to lvl 81 (I have grown tired of grinding beyond level 50 for no real purpose) and fast traveled to the Lady Stone. I got a Legendary. He dropped a Daedric Helmet of extreme alteration and a Daedric war axe, as well as the usual bones, scales, and gold. Not sure it matters, though. By that time you should pretty much have your end game gear in place, nor have any further need of money.

Interestingly, even though I am now at level 81, the twin dragons in the forgotten vale were still only Revered, not Legendary. It was a beautiful looking fight as they kept zooming by at low level and shouting at me. One of the prettiest fights I've had.

I find ancient dragons tougher than revered dragons(ancient dragons seem more aggressive and revered dragons just seem to shout all the time) but Im 69 and no luck for me either.

That Drain Vitality shout can be quite powerful. It may have a blast radius effect since I have seen it vary in intensity. I just ran into a Legendary at Winterhold and it dropped my health something fierce. That was with over 600 health and 85% magic resist. I had to pop a potion. And it totally anihilated my magicka and stamina. Other times, however, it has not had such a powerful effect. I think the closer you are to the dragon's aim point the more powerful it is. (side note: I am playing on master difficulty, so it is probably twice as effective, but still, it can be a powerful shout.)

Yes!

I loved that encounter, it was the best moment in this dlc.

I got my butt kicked by the 2 Revered Dragons in the Forgotten Vale because of that shout.

Now I finally have a use for those Ward spells, to block that shout.

I'm playing on adept(because my two brothers can't really handle anything higher) and the revered dragons shout is easy to dodge. But when it does hit you(I don't know about master) it did 20points stamina, health and magika per second for around 30 seconds.

I'm level 70 and still haven't seen a hint of a Legendary. If you just want to get that achievement out of the way, you could save and do the Oghma boost if that still works. Otherwise, there are tricks with each skill to help them move along a bit faster. Search YouTube and Im sure you'll find them

Aussie is level 61(Adept) and all she has managed to dig up around Skyrim so far are ancient dragons, she has practically no dragons since she does not have self spawning ones. Since the dragons are not awakened seems she cannot get any more dragon bounty jobs either. I will resort to setting Braggen after the beasts he is level 77, I go work on some magic skills he will be 78 anyway. He still gets plenty of dragons, but none are turning out to be Legendary, and I am fast getting sick and tired of chasing and killing dragons. Aussie's last 3 led her on a chase all over the place.

This will have absolutely no effect, difficulty doesn't affect the game world. All it does is increase/decrease your damage and the damage you take.

You can encounter a Legendary Dragon at level 50, or above.. However, it is very rare.. As you get higher level, the chance of getting a Legendary Dragon in random spots will increase.. At Level 70, Legendary Dragons will begin spawning at Dragon Dens.. At Level 78, all dragon dens have a hug % of spawning Legendary Dragons.. (I'm level 81 and I always get Legendary Dragons at Dragon Dens)...

Note: It has been proven you can find a Legendary Dragon at level 50... I will post Video Evidence if asked.

Not really.. Though it does seem like they always drop a Daedric Item.
