Lets butcher the name. The Elder Scrolls

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 1:13 pm

First I just want to say how much of a fan of the elder scrolls series I am. From Arena through to morrowind and then on to skyrim. Every single elder scrolls chapter has had me hooked from the beging to the end.

There is a problem here and its not actually your fault. After playing through kotor one and two I eagerly awaited kotor 3. And it never came. Suddenly there was a announcement" The Old Rebulic". Bioware said " Dont worry we have to do this, it will be better in every single way and plus it will be more like kotor having 3 4 5 and 6. Sadily i was svcked in. What i got was a game with a great conversation system and little else.
I won't be buying this due to my experience with the Old Rebulic. Ive already seen a developer butcher a series i love. Am i willing to watch another do the same.

My problem with the elder scrolls online is not the actual idea. Its the use of the name"The Elder Scrolls Online". If the game bottoms then so does the name. Why not call it Tamriel online or something similar.

Please, Please,Please dont butcher the name The Elder Scroll.

Sorry i really tried not to be a troll :(

I wonder where people begin to get the notion that we were even going to get a KotoR III...

And yet that has nothing to do with the point I made. Thank you for being irrelevant.

Sure won't get one if nobody expresses their desire for it.

Right, but SWTOR didn't stop them from making a 3rd KotOR, if anything KOTOR II did that. I keep saying this, but just because an MMO is being made doesn't mean its the reason they stopped making the single player games, if anything its probably a last resort to revitalize an IP in most of these cases. If BioWare had thought a KOTOR III would have sold well, they most certainly have made it, regardless of the MMO.

Its the same as the money argument ppl keep making in regards to this MMO. All game development is in most part motivated by the revenue it can generate. Its the same for RPGs as it is for MMOs.

Kotor 3 would have been such a lovely game. Wonder how people will change their tunes when this game starts effecting TES single player.

I'd disagree with that because if Kotor II stopped Kotor III being made why did they even make a MMO for Kotor? Surely they would not have bothered. It's just another example of these big companies putting profit before making something good

I agree, it should be called
The Tamrielic Crusade
or
Wrath of the Temporary Emperor
or
Tamriclysm
or
Mists of Argonaria

Most of his posts aren't relevant, yet he tells others they're not being "constructive"

Can we please have one opinion thread BTW. Almost every thread on the first page ties into the same thing...

Why are you being irrelevant? The point was: when were we ever promised a KotoR III? If the answer is "we weren't" then how the hell can people logically say that SW: ToR killed the single player KotoR series?

You mean like how SW: ToR affected the Kot-- oh wait, it didn't.

Agreed, the game is being butchered.

There should have been a KOTOR III and they wasted time making a MMO.

Kotor fans would have prefered a Kotor 3 rather than some mmo game. The mmo affected a Kotor 3 game being made cause if they did not make an mmo they could have made Kotor 3.

I should just say that what I post is my opinion, you don't have to agree with it honey.

Ah yes, the classic opening to a negative thread.
This doesn't even contribute to the discussion, and besides there isn't much footage from the game yet.

Yeah, I know obsidian made it. I do like Kotor you know, I was talking about Kotor 3, not Kotor 2. Bioware could have made it. Kotor 3 that is.

Apart from that I'm not going to bother responding to you since all you do is subtly try to antagonise people, i've said many times the things I say are my opinion you don't have to agree with it.

What is your rational for them not making KOTOR III then? The only rational is that more people will play the MMO, which still means that KOTOR III wouldn't have done as well. KOTOR II didn't kill it, it just contributed to it becoming an MMO rather than an single-player RPG. It indicates one of two things or both; That BioWare didn't believe it was worth their time(why have someone else make KOTOR II if this wasn't the case) and that BioWare was in fact ready to move onto something else, in which case its best they do that than continuing to make something they aren't interested in.

Also, I would like to point out, that SWTOR could not have "killed" KOTOR since BioWare never planned to make a KOTOR III(or II for that matter) in the first place. This isn't even close to the same situation, where Beth has made now a whopping 5 games to this IP. Trust me, if they plan to stop making them, it wont be because of this MMO. BioWare made one KOTOR game. If they had wanted to make a second, they would have done it by now. The whole rational for how this MMO might hurt the future of TES games is bogus. Everyone knows these are separate games, and all loyal TES fans wont care what the MMO does. Its just people fear mongering and finding things to worry themselves over.

IF anything, this MMO will make future TES games more popular, either because the MMO fails, and everyone will really need their fix of TES then, or because it actually succeeds and brings more people into the IP. Its a win win.
