A Light Shining in the Darkness sights

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 5:10 am

According to the Vault A Light Shining in the Darkness has guttersnipe sights. I'm not much of a gun person (most of what I know comes from the History Channel and wikipedia) but I've never heard of this. It seems like it would make the weapon difficult to aim, impossible to adust the sights, but a never faltering alighnement.

Does anyone know more about these kinds of sights?

A gutter sight is simply a machined trough along the top of the frame/slide of a weapon. One simply peers down the trough to align and sight in with them. You are correct in that they are non-adjustable, but are also impossible to "knock off alignment". You wouldn't see this kind of sight on any weapon intended for competition and is mostly non-existant as a military sight nowadays. You can also see a similar sight on revolvers (like the police pistol) where there is a trough in the top strap and a front sight blade. I recently shot a Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector, 2nd model with these sights. By aligning the trough with the front sight blade, my sight picture had me in the middle of the front blade. I tried like hell to get the correct sight picture for the damn thing, but never could decide whether I should align the trough with the top of the blade and "hold off", ie. move my aim point to compensate, or sight down the trough at some point midway up the blade. I shot the thing like crap. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn and basically wasted about 50 rounds on the damn thing. It was chambered in .45 (long) Colt, the same as the Colt SAA, and it had some pretty good kick. The gun owner told me that he thinks the low sight picture was supposed to compensate for the long barrel (6") rising during recoil. I don't know if I buy it, but he did shoot better than I.

Trench sights (another name for them) are sometimes used on concealed carry weapons to prevent snags. The overall small size/light weight/difficult sights of A Light Shining In Darkness are why it has a 75 Guns skill requirement, but also why it is on the standard holdout weapon list.

Not true.

Sawyer's secret is that he channels the spirit of the Holy Lord Browning, which is obviously apparent not only in New Vegas but especially in Honest Hearts.

I shall lay a sacrifice at the foot of the alter of John Moses Browning in the hopes that Josh Moses Sawyer puts the M2 in the game.

I would like to see the Ma duece in FONV as much as the next person, but it would utterly dominate everything. Hordes of Legion, NCr and Brotherhood of Steel warriors would fall before the all mighty M2... Not that that's a bad thing. :gun:

Joshua Graham's outfit also uses a fair amount of snake skin.

I think .46 APC is or was a gunnery sgt in the USMC. He would have to know about a lot of weapon types.

He also seems to have spent personal time furthering his overall knowledge of weapons. If you ever lived and died by firearms, or taught others who will live or die by firearms its best to know as much as humanely possible.

I could be wrong about him. This is just my persona of him taken from a messege board.

The .50 mg? lol They can t even get fired from a man standing. Mounted they would make insane base defense.

I know at least 1 wwll medal of honar winner did some running and gunning with one, but lets not make the courier a medal of honar winner too.

A Super Mutant may be able to effectively stand and fire one, but humans just can t except for super extreme stituations like the wwll medal of honar winner.

I can t remember if he lived or died to get that medal. He may have sacrificed himself by diving on a jap satchel charge. Some times I get the MOH stories mixed up.

Main point I don t want my guy running and gunning with heavy machine guns. Even an mg 42 or mg 3 would be a hard.

I've never heard of anyone using a Ma Deuce that wasn't mounted on something, so I think you're confusin it with the old .30 caliber M1919. Trust me, those things are heavy as all hell. It's a pain to move them, it's a pain to clean them, it's a pain to get ammo cans for them, they're just a pain. That is, unless you've got your hands on the spades, then it's all fun.
