Yea, poor Kings. They really looked solid at some points in the season, and certainly loaded on offense. And it's really too bad too because Quick has had another very impressive season.

I won't speak for Toronto's chances, but Montreal has a 1% chance of even making the playoffs.
 Uhhh, I mean, that svcks for their fans. They deserve worse better.

to see Marchand bury two beautiful goals. He's the 2nd best Bruin (to Bergeron, of course) and it's good to see him rewarded. He had a decent chance at a natural hat-trick too, late in the third, but didn't capitalize. And it was also refreshing to see Thomas play much better. He gave up two goals that were not totally his fault. It was also good to see the Bruins not get totally deflated after blowing a 2-0 lead in the first period.
As much as I hate admitting it, Marchand is becoming a pretty good player. Still hate 'em though.

My Kings are crumbling as their lack of scoring continues to haunt my dreams... and their play of course. I hope they don't do anything foolish to get Nash. I know talks have included Johnson (and others) for Nash, but if Kopitar, Richards, Williams, Brown and others can't score goals then I doubt even Nash could turn things around. And trading Johnson away would explode my brain. They've had a slow season, but Doughty and Johnson have potential to be the best pairing of D-Men in the league in a few years so I hope the Kings don't do anything to throw that away for a big blockbuster that never works out in the end anyways.
Depending on what LA gives up, Nash could be a decent addition. They guy's managed to average 30 goals over the last few years without ever playing with a bonafide first line center. Give him a center like Richards or Kopitar and Nash is (probably) gonna explode. He usually does that when paired with elite talent.

Indeed. I wouldn't mind if they used Bernier to bring someone in, now that Quick has definitely established himself, even though having a solid pair of goalies is an advantage, the number of 1-0 games they've lost makes me think defense/goaltending isn't such an issue.

It's just that those big trades rarely work. Remember Forsburg to Philly or Nashville? Giving up a future player like Loktionov or even Johnson for someone who might click just doesn't seem like the way to go. Of course, if they do it and Nash reaches 40 goals in the last 20 games of the season then I'll shut up :P

Yep. If he were on any other team I'd hate him too. Kind of like PK Subban. He's an impressive, young, talented, fun-to-watch player, that I love to hate.

^ ^ Those remind me of Richards/Carter tandem of Philly a few years back. Young players who you just love to hate. Anyway, Marchand has been pretty much the most visible Bruin in the offensive zone whole season long. I remember watching the season opener vs. Philly... he was the only Boston attacker that could be seen constantly creating scoring chances. Although more of their forwards have since come back from their summer vacations, Marchand's still been the most energetic out there whenever I've seen the Bs play.

Yeh, I said in thread #6 that Kings could be a rational team to get Nash unlike, say, Detroit. I'd very much like to see what he could do with Kopitar - those two are clearly the two most skilled and all-out best forwards of their teams.

I too say this: poor Kings. I'll add poor Sabres and poor Caps. Also poor Lightning. With rosters like that, you ought to be higher in the standings. Those should be sure playoff teams when it comes to player material. :/ Meanwhile, it's nice to see those underdogs like Florida, Toronto and Phoenix either getting there or almost.

This was just announced during the Canucks - Wings: "LOS ANGELES – The goal-starved Los Angeles Kings acquired three-time 30-goal scorer Jeff Carter from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday in exchange for defenseman Jack Johnson and a conditional first-round selection in either the 2012 or 2013 NHL Draft." -NHL.com. Another center? Odd. Columbus has a solid offensive D-man now, though.

Bryz had his first decent game in sometime but they get shutout by the Oilers, go figure. It's been almost two months without a back to back win, this is unacceptable.

Abdelkader a +3, Stuart, Lids, Kronner, Flip, a -1 and Z a -2.. something was terribly awry for that game, and I'm pretty sure it starts with no Pavel.

Holy Moly, what a game!

If there was any team that could shut down that 23 home win streak, it was my glorious Canucks. Daniel Sedin scoring 2 goals, 1 with 15 seconds left in the 3rd to tie it up, and then Burrows with the SO winner, oh man those buttdevestated Wings fans! It's too great to bear.

To most it wasn't a surprise without Datsyuk.

Losing him was a huge hit to the team, I'd say the most vital player during that streak, and I predicted in the last thread the streak would end without him. The loss to Chicago was just as unsurprising. The entire time I've been hoping the Wings manage to keep 1st place while he's gone.

He'll be back though. Just in time to probably win another boring Detroit Stanley Cup.

I doubt the Wings would win, merely because of the statistical odds against them (plus the fact that since 2009's playoff run their postseason prowess has been diminishing, to the point where all that's left is to stop making the playoffs entirely, waiting to see what happens when Lids retires), but win or loss, despite the crime+stigma in Detroit and the 80s Tigers fans rep for riots, one thing I'll bet on is no rioting. :P

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=618589 This is interesting because this is a non-rental talent now for talent now deal. We opened this thread talking about what the Kings would have to do to go over the edge in the West. Do you think acquiring Carter and losing Johnson will provide a legitimate payoff? I wonder if Quick is mad that he lost one of his best D-Men. And of course, there are personality issues with Carter.

Thoughts?

I'd say the Jackets are starting over but, er.. it would be redundant.

Well if the recovery from the surgery gets him back before the playoffs then it was a good idea, as long as they don't slip out of the playoffs

I personally don't like it right now, only because I think Carter is overrated and I don't like his attitude, while Johnson was promising to become a solid player. But if Richards and Carter start clicking again then all will be forgiven I suppose.

The New Jersey Devils gave their blue line a boost on Friday by acquiring veteran defenseman Marek Zidlicky from the Minnesota Wild for three players and draft picks after Zidlicky waived his no-trade clause.

The Wild will receive defenseman Kurtis Foster, forwards Nick Palmieri and Stephane Veilleux, as well as a second-round pick in 2012 that the Devils previously acquired from Washington and a conditional third-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft. The Wild will get that pick if the Devils make the Eastern Conference Finals this spring and Zidlicky plays in 75 percent of New Jersey's games in the first two rounds.

Pretty much for Zidlicky. I find this trade a bit risky for the Devils. They loose so much in this. I hope Zidlicky has what it takes to become their main PP blueliner. I believe he has, though. Foster''s been their main PP blueliner guy lately, and now they don't have him anymore. Zidlicky pretty much has to succeed.

How about those Jets eh?

1st in SE. Although probably not for long, but it would be fantastic to see them playing post season. Even if they're swept in the 1st round.

Me like. The city would go crazy if they got to playoffs already. Although Jets on top the SE really tells it's a weak division. Besides, Jets have more games played than the teams closest behind them. :(

Great deal for Columbus. I would've traded Carter for Johnson OR a first-round pick. They got both.

And that one goal was sick. Going through at least three Lightning and then five-hole on Rolie. I feel bad for Roloson, btw. I remember reading somewhere that he was about to retire already, but the Tampa GM talked him for one more year. Rolie's always been just phenomenal in the last ten years or so, but this has not just been his season. They should've let him retire and have themselves a new goalie, or just trust Garon. It's not nice to see another of my childhood favorites ending his career like this. :(

And yup, Columbus lost in the Vermette deal, but the Carter deal was a steal. :)

Christ, we won that game to move into 3rd (briefly) and you would've thought we were Cup-bound the way everyone here was talking about them  I would like to see them make playoffs simply so I can go to a few playoff games this year.

@Miller: Bitter-much? :tongue: (about Carter-Richards)
