Look What I Did! :O

Post » Wed May 09, 2012 3:35 am

It happened on a new Slim xbox. I stood up and just tapped the Xbox is my hand (Not purposely) and it must have been on a wire or something cause there's no way it was balanced properly lol. Anyhows the reason I'm not so upset is because I bought a copy for both me and my brother, and so I used his disc to install to my HDD (My disc is unreadable, and un-installable), and now I can play using my disc because it only requires about 5 seconds of loading.

So it's all good I guess lol.

I've actually never had it happen to any of my games, even moving the xbox.

If you've installed the game it will not scratch/burn it, because it is not reading the disc. It will only do it if it's reading from the disc when it's knocked over.

Yeah, if the disc is running in the console while it is moved in any way the result is a laser burn. (See image)
No fun.. :sadvaultboy:

Ah I didn't notice that. Ouch.

From what I understand, he/she decided to move the 360 while Skyrim was playing. Result was a ruined disk.

Lesson: Keep the 360 stationary when playing a game. If you must move it, move it when it's not on and running.

It's not really the laser burning it, it's physical damage from the disc pushing into part of the drive or the laser mounting. Though I thought the newer models were suppose to have foam patches placed in there to prevent or drastically reduce the chance of it happening. Surprised it happened on a newer model.

Sorry to hear. But, I have no sympathies for anyone that moves a disk drive while spinning 360, PS3, or PC (unless their dog did it).

And THIS is the reason why xbox 360 users should install Skyrim.Would you rather have a crappier texture or have bigger chances of having your disc scratched from an accident like this?

Are none of you reading the OP at all? I DID NOT MOVE THE XBOX INTENTIONALLY. I knocked it with my hand/arm as I stood up. I don't know how but that was enough to tip it over.

I had this happen to Oblivion when I first bought it. Now I have the same fear with Skyrim. I know you can move the console with the game running. You hear it clank around and poof it turns out like the OP's.

Well my sympathies then, that's harsh. Try and claim you bought it like that :P

Nowhere in your post is even stated what's wrong. I have no idea how people here can know what happened, as in your pic, all I see is the box and disc of skyrim..

As I repair the 360, PS3, and PC (along with other electronics) I can tell you first hand, they do. In all likelyhood, the drive in your PC is very simular to the 360's drive.

Like I said, sorry to hear. I understand it wasn't intentional (if it where, I would have used derogitory words and name calling), but its just one of those "golden rules of electronics" is to never bump or jar a spinning disk (Including a HHD).

That svcks >.< I went though 3 halo 3 disks that way untill everybody learned to not touch the damn think. however Microsoft has a disk replacement program if you send them the disk they will replace it, it's still gona run you about $30 but that's half price of buying it all over again

Edit: you can try having the disk refinished but this never worked for me with my halo disks the console always thought it was a DVD and gave me the error says "to play this disk put it in an Xbox 360 console" and that always just pissed me off more
