Lore-breaking anime crap (A Rant on mods)

Post » Thu May 24, 2012 5:30 am

Everytime, a mod tool comes out for a bethesda game such as TES or Fallout. And then I'm like, "cool; I can't wait for new homes and immersive edits and stuff" but no.... If I want to find that, I have to sift through all that crap on the Nexus/workshop. Anime, naked girls, hentai ect. I know too each their own, but come on! For one, why does everyone want that sort of stuff anyway? Doesn't it sort of defeat the setting and lore of the whole game? I mean sure, there is some mods which add weapons and stuff; but at least they're fitting. I mean, when do you see young half-naked japanese anime girls running round in skimpy cartoon clothing, oversized swords and angel wings. It pisses me off, to be honest.

I thought that skyrim would be different. NOPE!

And that's my rant on the kind of crap that's filling Skyrim modsites today. Any thoughts?

Agreed for the most part, I use texture updates and nvde patches, but I stay away from the anime clothes and weapons bigger than myself. Just seems that it would be more likely for a stripped npc to be naked as opposed to everybody wearing the exact same lame beige underwear, especially considering the setting, I know I've never seen a fruit of the loom factory in tamriel, and even if there was one, I doubt they'd only have one color/style. That said, I would personally rather go nvde than be stuck in burlap boxers.

First of, I feel pretty similar, but as you said, to each his own.
Actually it provides quite some amusemant, because laughing is really the only thing I can do when seeing anime girls in skimpy clothing and hair that looks as if they just spend half a day in a beauty salon running through an post-apocalyptic wasteland (or Skyrim).
Buster swords are really just the cherry on top...

...ahh, the fine art of sword-fighting...

I would really only get angry if for some reason (western) developers started to take inspirations from that anime stuff.

That's why you only get the female body replacers, or leave the cuirass on and take everything else :D

The thing is, TES games are very popular in far east, and as such these kind of mods keep being made. No way to help it, so it comes down to the old mantra "don't like it, don' use it". Nexus could use a new tag for these kind of mods though, would make ignoring them easier for people who don't want them.

I for one like them, so i'll use them :hehe:

I agree, I think it's completely stupid and lore breaking with all these final fantasy hair cuts, wings, skimpy white/silver armour sets, giant sized weapons etc etc...

But these modders obviously have talent and an audience, so like you said mate to each his own :)

Maybe we could have a mod category split between lore friendly and lore breaking mods? Would make it easier sifting through armour mods etc.

I agree fully. I was so sick of seeing it in Oblivion, and I hoped Skyrim would be different.
These skimpy, porm, and anime teen girls with big briasts, bunny ears and thongs mods make me sick.
It makes me think: what the hell are these kind of people that do this?

Here's how I see it: they can do whatever hell they want with their games. I don't care about that, it's their game. BUT when 70% of all Nexus images are of mods like this, and the mods are so many and pop up all the time, it DOES affect you, even if you don't use it in your own game. It affects you because it gives the modding a sick, perverted feeling, far far away from the "original lore-friendly feeling Bethesda intended". That's why I dislike it a lot. It affects me even if I don't use. And that's why the mantra "don't like it don't use it", doesn't really work.

The funny thing is, also, that the moderators on Nexus seem so sacred about it. I got insta-banned just for ASKING politely people that liked such a skimpy, anime teen lingerie mod WHY they liked it, because I did not understand it myself, seeing how it was so non-lore friendly and different. So apparently, Nexus thinks: shut up about everything, don't even ask politely to try to understand, even if it's sick like hell.

It's nothing to be pissed about. I don't like them either, but obviously the modders who make them are good at what they do, enjoy doing it and they have an audience of people who download it. So just ignore it. Problem solved.

Yeah an anime/japanese category on Nexus would be brilliant. I've no interest in these myself. I don't mind anime/japanese stuff, but only if its in anime/japanese stuff. It just looks awful and out of place in Western games or any game that attempts to a somewhat realistic or immersive look and feel.

In the end I don't really care all that much, to each his own.
But you know you live in a sad society where mods such as these score higher than great mods that actually add a lot to the game such as Mida's Magic, Enhanced Blood Textures, and Realistic Lighting.
And that's just by looking at the top 25 :P

This..

And I don't see anything wrong with these people having some imagination and creativity.

I don't care about 'lore'. Nothing in MY GAME has to be correct lore wise down to the letter..

Threads like this really makes me wonder when people will just stop modding.. I feel they are taken for granted, and barked at for stupid reasons.

I also find most of these mods to be cringeworthy, and I really wish these clearly talented people would spend their efforts elsewhere. But in the end, it's their choice and nobody is forcing you to use these mods. I don't know why you expected Skyrim to be any different though. Keep in mind both Oblivion and Skyrim are pretty popular in Japan and many of these mods do come from Japanese modders

Yes, and many have quit just for those reasons. Mod users are the biggest threath modding, unfortunately :(

For the most part, fully agreed.

But I also think hlvr has a good point too. This stuff is so pervasive that it begins to crowd out everything else, and it DOES get annoying.

To you who thought Skyrim would be different, why did you think that? (Not trying to be rude/start a flame war, just curious) I personally don't find skimpy armor and anime mods appealing, but as a lot of people said, to each their own.

Also, I think Dark0ne said something about giving skimpy armor an own category on the Nexus or something along those lines in his last video, to make it easier for people who doesn't want to sift through 375682 different chainmail bikinis.

This and.. Some of the people modding this boobs bigger than your head stuff, are people I highly respect.. Talented artists.. I only wish I could create something and put it in game.. They are not forcing me to download...

I walk past it and get what I want... Leaving theirs for those who want boobs bigger than your head...But my respect for their talent and abilities remains in place.

As much as I like visual improvements for my character, I agree. Sure, to each his own, but it makes me sad to see so much modding talent wasted on garbage which has nothing to do with TES at all.
I'd just like to see more quality lore-correct mods, and be able to find them without having to wade through seas of furry anime girls.

I've never had an issue with the anime stuff. Not my thing, but it's no biggie. It's mostly character customisation and armour, so I hardly even see it when I'm browsing. All the big armour and weapons packs are well known and promoted enough to be obvious.

Having said that, if I was into armour heavily, it would be a pain.

I think TheLethalDwarf should be forced to download, install, and use all anime mods. It's only fair.

I dislike nvde/skimpy(or course I'm always glad when modders make underwear versions of body mods) and porm modes too, but I haven't seen many hentai specific mods so I don't think throwing everything at Japan/anime. As for manga/anime mods in general I don't see what the problem is, people obviously like it and there is nothing wrong about it. I would use some of them myself if TES' art was closer to it, but since it's not I wanna keep it seperate. I prefer more realistic art settings to be kept like that and more anime-ish art settings to be kept like that.

It might not worth it getting pissed about, but I lose my faith to humanity each time I see the downloads of Animated Prostitution for FO3 and FNV. :sadvaultboy: Like seriously are people that desperate to see porm everywhere?

Those animated six mods don't belong on the nexus. I think they are sick and lower the tone of the entire site and what it stands for.

I'm all for freedom of creative expression, but actual pormography makes all us modders look like depraved rat b******
