So after I little checking Ive found its specific to this character. Another character of mines just ran to the DG fortress and read the book. Got the quest to trigger on that character with no problems. So there is something in my current characters save thats stopped it triggering properly. I have no idea what it might be.

I might try what you suggested carrots, as its really the only thing left open to me to try. But I have a feeling that I wont get anything from the forge without the quest.

Oh and in case anyone from Beth is reading this, I can probably transfer my save to the PC and email it if it helps track down the bug. Just ask and I will send it to whoever wants it.

Good luck man hope it works out, I've had to restart a couple times and there's nothing worse then restarting from scratch. Speaking of transfering your save file, have you tried it? You could use console command and spawn the journal into your inventory, this should clear it up for ya, if you have a PC that can run Skyrim and if you own both the Xbox copy and the PC copy.

I tried that a few times aussie when Someguy029 gave me directions to a shard location. As I said ive read the book, found a shard, entered the ruins, spoke to the ghost and found her corpse. There is no journal on the corpse because the quest wont trigger to spawn it on her body. Ive reloaded multiple times in every instance Ive tried to force it along with no joy whatsoever.

The quest does not trigger till you read the journal, and you probably should have no shards on you before the quest triggers. Dumb I know, you would think they would have taken into account people would do other than what they were meant to do. if you have a save you can test out, you could see if the journal would spawn for that character. Maybe the game is just assuming, since you went and collected a shard, you had the journal for the info, so is not going to spawn one when you go to where the quest was meant to start. If you do not have a save you could try before you picked up the first shard, just do the quest manually, as already suggested. If you have the shards, no reason why it would not work, the journal was just background info and hints.

I put Aussie on the quest, all she had to do was persuade the ghost Katria she was not turning back and the quest started, she had not yet even reached the Journal. I am sure Katria was a bit slower when Braggen did it, but as usual Aussie went a different way.
