Lost to the ages, DG members only quest?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 1:37 pm

As the title suggest I cant get the "lost to the ages" quest to trigger. Ive read the book three times in different locations and nada. Is it only for dawngaurd members or can the VL also do it? Or is there some kind of other lock on it, like a specific level required?

It doesn't start off in your active quests after you read it. It shows up in Misc. Once you go to the place specified, the quest will be triggered.

Thats the point its not in misc quests at all, there was nothing that triggered with reading it. I have not been to the place yet because I dont know where it is, there is no location marker on the map for it.

Odd. Mine worked perfectly. Try going to the location and see if it works. If it doesn't, I don't know what's wrong.

Try going to one of the aetherium shards. When you pick one up, it initiates a misc quest to read the book. That might work.

Got a location on one thats easy to find? Im at a loath to consult a guide, I usually figure out everthing on my own for questlines.

To the west, near Markarth, lies the ancient Dwemer ruin, Deep Folk Crossing. North of Bthardamz.

The icon isn't a normal dwemer ruin insignia though, but the landmark one.

Found it, and the glowing shard. Nada.

Looks like either its bugged and wont trigger or something is blocking the quest triggering.

You would do better to start with the ghost and her notes which are all found at Arkngthamz, reading the book should have updated your map with its location, there should also be a misc. quest to investigate the ruins of Arkngthamz in your journal. You do not get the Lost to the Ages quest just by reading the book.

I know that Aussie but as I said above there is no misc quest. I already have one of the shards, and the book Ive read it several times. Nothing triggers, nothing in misc quests show up and the location does not show up on the map. Ill have a look at the map location and take a walk down towards the ghost and see if that triggers anything.

Has anyone else had trouble getting this to trigger? If so I would like to hear of any workarounds for the problem. If there are any restrictions to the quest IE specific level required I would like to know that to.

So this quest is heavily bugged, definately. Just talked to the ghost, she directs me to pickup her journal but there IS NO JOURNAL. Ive searched the body and the entire entrance area and Its not spawned at all, and no quest triggers from talking to the ghost. Pain in the anus.

This.

There is no Faction requirement in order to go through "Lost to the Ages".

edit = tremendously horrid spelling issues...

Hello, did you read my post? NOTHING has come up at all in misc. I have gone to the ruins after having to look the location for it up, as it did not show up on the map. The quest did not trigger, hell I even spoke to the damn ghost and it STILL wont trigger.

No never had a hitch during my play through
May be a stupid question but did you try an earlier save? Maybe you did the wrong things and caused a bug? And you say the journal is not on her body? This is the first I've heard of this one, sorry man I'm really stumped  you seem to have taken all the right steps to force the quest along but it still refuses to work. Try a save that's a little ways back ( if you can ) and see if you can start the quest from there.

Cant use an earlier save because the first time I read the book was right at the start of the DG content at level 12 or so in the castles smithy. Ive already completed the DG questline and Im level 40 now so going back would involve having to do it all again.

I didnt even know it was a quest until I had a look for extra content with the DLC, and thats when I realised that the book wasn't working. As I said Ive taken every step I can think of and some other people have suggested but no joy.

Personally I think its blocked by something, possiblly another quest in my log which is why Ive been clearing the log of quest in the hope it will trigger at a later date.

I hope your right, it would svck BALLS having to re-do everything!! I cannot for the life of me remember if I did anything special to start the quest, I'm pretty sure I just read the book and the quest started. I didn't have to complete ( A ) in order for "Lost to the ages to kick" in I'm pretty sure I just read the book. Best of luck man if I can think of anything I'll post it, sorry I couldn't be much help.

Do you have a save before you picked up the first shard? If that was not too long ago maybe you could go back to that one go first to Arkngthamz and see if you can get the journal.

Braggen had no troubles starting or completing the quest, All Aussie has done is read the book, she only has the location on the map and the misc quest to investigate Arkngthamz, there is nothing in her journal yet about a Lost to the Ages quest, pretty sure it started for Braggen when he picked up the journal. I could always set Aussie after it and find out.

I tried that a few times aussie when Someguy029 gave me directions to a shard location. As I said ive read the book, found a shard, entered the ruins, spoke to the ghost and found her corpse. There is no journal on the corpse because the quest wont trigger to spawn it on her body. Ive reloaded multiple times in every instance Ive tried to force it along with no joy whatsoever.

I am having exactly this same problem. Sorry I don't have a solution (but if I find one I'll post it asap), I'm just commiserating.

If you do get to the ruins and talk to the ghost, you don't have to have her journal to complete the quest. I looked for the journal and never found it, also, but had no problem continuing through the quest. I hope you can get it work for you. Have you tried praying to Divines? Just a thought...Good luck in your endeavor.

I think that this may be your problem. You're not supposed to find any shards until well after you talk to the Ghost and a healthy dungeon romp.

You read the book to kick off the quest, yes. But you found an Aetherium Shard out of order. This may be why the rest of the quest isn't triggering for you.

It's not likely since other quests just have the central character (in this case, the Ghost) say something like; "Oh, you already found -blah-, let's go look for-blah-."

This quest may not have had that option programmed into it thus it's throwing off the quest progression code.

I doubt that because the book was the first thing I noticed and read in the castle smithy as a new book, but nothing at all happened. And as someone above posted finding a shard is supposed to trigger the misc quest to find the book. Imo its more likely that something blocked the trigger in the first place with the book and its now stuck, no matter what I do.

As I said the quest has had no triggering what-so-ever. No misc quest, no side quest, even though each step is supposed to trigger it. So it cant be out of order because it hasnt started in any way shape or form yet.

Sorry, bro. If that isn't it then I don't know what it could be. That was my best guess based on the posts previous to mine.

I know and I appreciate the effort. Its just that at this point I am almost out of options, as I have tried everything that is supposed to trigger off the first step and "set stage" for the quest. Im doing every quest I currently have that involved me having to go somewhere specific or investigate something just to make sure that there as few things as possible that can block it when I try again at a later date with this character.

Maybe it's like Blood on the ice? For me Blood on the ice went as far as when you see the body in the graveyard, after that there was nothing I could do to make it trigger. I tried to force it along by doing the next steep without being told to, no change. I tried all the tips on the interwbes and still nothing, so I got feed up and sat down and started to play with the lap top next to me. I went through the entire quest with out it triggering past the graveyard seen, once I had gotten to the last step it kicked in and counted as though I completed the quest.
Perhaps this is what your going to have to do, sit down with Wiki going and push through on your own and see if it triggers once you complete it. You never know it might work for you, svcks that you need to do it but better then never scoring what you want form the forge.
