Real men live in Winterhold.

I never understood how it's possible to live there. What do these people do for a living? There's no farming, probably not much fishing, just a small mine and ... snow.

I prefer the reach myself but I do love the scenery of the rift. I'd like Winterhold a lot more if it wasn't such a ghost town. The way it was described as a rival to Solitude before the great collapse would've made it a winter wonderland.

I'd like it better if i hadn't purchased the torture chamber. :(
I felt that I needed to buy everything because I shouldn't keep any more of the pay off, but now I find the place too noisy. :P

I checked out the Morrowind from Skyrim thread too. Too bad it's all down scaled.

If I could choose the best place to live, for the landscape, it would be Dragonsreach. I'd love to have a home on such a high plateau surrounded by lower countryside with rivers and streams, and with the high snowy mountains in the distance.

It is noisy but nice addition to the DB. Dragonsreach is cool too. i do agree but my chars are more dark and need to live in places like Riften or Dawnstar Sanctuary.

what the hell is the purpose of a torture chamber!? its always constant moaning
it serves no purpose! waste of money imo and the sanctuary sounds alot nicer without them moaning all the time which made the place sound like a brothel

Once I started living there, it would get darker. :)

Spoiler
You can torture the victims to get them to reveal the locations of treasure to you - although I've never tested this. :P

I also think the Rift is best area. I like it so much I built a house there. OK, an old watchtower. It even has a seat on the roof so you can gaze out over the landscape.

I think it looks nice, but it is probably the location I visit the least. I don't know why but I just don't feel home there and I feel kinda out of place.

in the small amount of time I don't spend exploring The Pale, I love just wandering the Eastmarch. The hot springs and the bluffs there make for some gorgeous scenery.

The Rift is my favorite area as well, although that may have been influenced by the fact that I started over there with my first character. Riften is my favorite town, and Honeyside is my favorite house. It's small, but I like that, although I am forced to get rid of my housecarl because it's small. She'll try to talk to you every two seconds because you're always so close to her.
