Marcurio

I had many followers, but i have to say that Marcurio is the best follower you can have. The man is a arcane master and a spell wizzard.

In case you don't know who marcurio is:

Hell yes, I even considered marrying that arcane wielding maniac. And I'm straight.

Yeah, he's almost a bit overpowered, especially at higher levels. He also has the most interesting comments of all followers. You can tell the developers liked him.

The fact that he favors shock and fire spells makes him superior to many of the other mages, since many of the inhabitants of Skyrim are resistant to frost.

Yes, he's one of the best followers. Along with Eola and Aranea.

Anyone with chain lightning dominates. Enemies are dead before I can even get within melee range.

When he's not acting like he's all-that-sumptuous, he's one of the best mage followers and definitely the best hireling.

However i think he's gay. He always says: 'Is that a amulet of Mara. I'm surprised you not spoken for" ...or something simular.

Marcurio Quotes

Player: "Follow me." Marcurio: "Try not to walk into any spike-filled pits or filthy skeever dens."
Player: "Wait here." Marcurio: "Don't make me wait too long. I get bored very easily."
Player: "I need to trade some things with you." Marcurio: "I am an apprentice wizard, not a pack mule. Oh, very well, but make it quick."
Player: "It's time for us to part ways." Marcurio: "So you think you can make it on your own then. We'll see about that."

Marcurio is also the only follower who can be recruited to join the Blades.

Technically, all marriable NPC:s are bisixual. That is, they will marry you regardless if your character is male or female.

Marcurio is also the only follower who can be recruited to join the Blades.

Not true. E g housecarls, Mjoll and Belrand are recruitable.

I'm pretty sure it's:

"I am an apprenticed wizard..." (as in I have a student, I am no mere spell caster)

He is not the best you can have. Not even close. He only levels to level 40 and doesn't equip better robes. His aoeskills can easily friendly fire adding bounty. His stats are only mediocre.
If you want a Mage-Follower I highly suggest J'zargo, who 1.) has great stats and 2.) Is the ONLY follower beside dark brotherhood initiate who has no levelcap (can reach level 81 with you).
J'zargo is the best Mage by a looooong shot.

I have a soft spot for Marcurio, I chose him because he has sneak and didn't seem to draw as much attention to himself as much as other followers I tried.
I'm not sure I could handle J'zargo's accent over the long term, I'm fairly certain it'd get on my nerves after a while.

For the most part, I agree that followers are relatively useless, glorified pack mules, really. Even so, I still like having one with me at times and it's usually Marcurio.

Edit: The level 40 cap is rather disappointing though, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a mod that changes the cap for gimped followers.

J'Zargo is a terrible mage. He is a mediocre follower at best; as a mage he is horrible.

His stats are pointless to deliberate. His AI is awful and he casts Sparks in combat, which is just worthless. He has high skill in Heavy Armor and 1-handed, but he usually defaults to casting, so even those are wasted. Have you actually used these guys as followers, or are you just parroting what you read somewhere?

It's hard to believe that anyone would say J'Zargo is objectively a better follower. You may prefer him, but he isn't better.

Marcurio's perk set would be solid for a PC mage; for a NPC follower that's amazing.

BTW: Marcurio at lvl 40: 425 health, 410 magicka. J'Zargo at 50 (10 levels higher!): 458 health, 295 magicka. So the supposed statistical disparity isn't what you thought.

Also, how can you not love someone who says "Why settle for simply stabbing your enemies when you can roast them alive in a gout of arcane fire?"

Marcurio is the strongest follower I've had so far but he seems to have more pathing/following problems than others. He'll sometimes get stuck in the ground or low rocks and I have to shout him out to get him to move. I've never seen this with other followers.

J'zargo is awful because he only uses sparks @81 which does ~0 damage to most.

I think hes awesome for mage characters since he likes to hang back and not step infront of fire balls. So far ive been mopping the floor by letting my frost antronch run forward and attack while me and marcurio blast away in the background with spells.

And enemies stop scaling at 50 if I remember correctly. So Marcurio stopping at 40 doesn't make a difference since he has higher starting health, magicka, and stamina pools. And he has better spells and is less annoying.
