markarth bug

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 12:22 am

Dude, what's your problem? I'm just trying to help the guy out. And yes, I completed all of it. I got arrested just like everyone else does during "Forsworn Conspiracy" You have no choice on that one. When I went to Chidna Mine, I chose to help the Forsworn escape. When we got out onto the streets, I didn't get involved with the fighting. I just watched. They slaughtered all the guards, the Silver Blood guy, and the overseer who's ash piles are still in the streets. Once the Forsworn finally left the city, everything was fine. No hostile guards at all. I get comments about helping them escape but that's it. And yes, I've been back to Markarth. Vindrel Hall is my main house in the game and has been ever since I bought it. I even married Muiri from Hag's End (also in Markarth) after awhile. I even got the 3 Thieves Caches in town after completing the Thieves Guild quests. Don't know what else you want me to say. I know plenty of people who have avoided this bug. Not everyone gets it. And I'd appreciate if you'd stop calling me a liar. You don't even know me.
Fine....I just find it hard that you never got this bug... Everyone else who I have talked to that has Skyrim on Xbox, PC, or PS3 have experienced this bug in its full glory and once it hit there is nothing you can do about it. I have tried all the workarounds that I could find posted with this bug and none have worked for me, or anyone I have talked with about this bug. The PC users at least can reset the guards to pass this bug.

The only people who claim they never got it or a workaround worked for them are ONLY HERE on this blog site.....

Yeah, once you save your game with a bug, you're stuck with it.

I was very careful to make sure my quests weren't bugged before making saves. I learned my lesson from playing Oblivion and having a bunch of glitches in it.

If something didn't complete correct or I didn't get the next objective that I was supposed to, I reloaded and did it gain until it was right. I obviously got through this particular quest on the first try without getting it.

It also helps that I have the game guide and read through the quests people on here say they have problems with before I do them. That way I know if it's ending right or not. Without a guide, it's tough for anyone to know something isn't right until it's too late most of the time.

I understand what you're saying. But honestly, what reason would I have to claim I did something I didn't? I have no reason to come on here and lie about it. What does that gain me? It doesn't even make sense to come on here and lie about doing something.
No purpose at all.
I'm not some teenager coming here to troll people to get my kicks. I'm just a 42 year old gamer who's trying to help people when and if I can. If I can give someone a few suggestions that might work then why not. They may not work all the time but in my opinion, it's worth a try before starting a game over from scratch right?

Anyway, hope you can eventually figure out a way to finish it.

Sorry personal experience with dealing with people on a daily bases at work. Fine people all the time who claim to have done this or accomplished this or that. To find out they are full of ****.
So sorry, plus I think I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today.

I ran into the problem on my first character. I reloaded an earlier save and fast traveled out before the fighting started and then didn't go back to Markath for a few days and everyone is cool. I had a similar problem with a Riften guard during the Civil War quest line. I killed an Imperial soldier and a Riften guard kept following me and asking me to either pay up or go to jail. I'd pay and run off and he follow me and just keep looping. I finally just killed him. Good times.

I had the same exact issue. did the quest early on.... after the "glitch" you are forever screwed no matter what you do when trying to go in Markarth...

I did however finally managed to get around it which I posted in a previous post.. but the search is probably twenty pages deep... anyways... If you have not done the Civil war SideQuest join it! Join the Stormcloaks and after you complete the chain of quests ALL of the cities will have Stormcloak guards in them... including Markarth which before the quests is Imperial... so after the quests the stormcloaks will be there and you can then walk around freely...

Then just finish the game and dont play it anymore. I rarely even come back to these forums only to see how much of a joke it is... saw this post figured I would reply because this really pissed me off too...
I dont know what I did, but I could not get Markarth to join the stormcloaks. All the aid they would give was information on a wagon full of weapons going to the Imperial City, but would not join....So the guards never switched over. Plus getting into Markarth with that Bug everyone kept attacking me even the Jarl. It was a pain to keep fighting them trying to just talk to them after they became active again to attack me.

Well its you that joins the Stormcloaks in the Civil War. After you complete all the quests in that "Event" the war is over and the Stormcloaks will control each city. If your on PS3 it will unlock the 3 trophies etc. in that Chain. I did that and then when I traveled back to Markarth and any other city the gaurds where all Stormcloak Guards and everything was cool. Maybe I was lucky lol... eitherway... I'm at 94% on the trophies and once I get 100% I'm just gonna put the game away untill some DLC come and maybe play again if some patches fix the Frame Rates and Lag.

I got the bug long after I finished both "No one escapes from Cidna Mine" and long after joining Stormcloacks. Everything was fine until I got the mission to translate Gallus's journal from the Thieve's Guild. When I entered the museum in Markarth with the key stolen from the mage all hell broke loose. I have no idea what the [censored] should I do... I tried reloading a previous save 3 times by now and every time I do that quest the glitch starts...

same thing happened to me, I was fine after escaping, and then got caught pickpocking, that's when the bug started.

I just had to let out a huge sigh when reading this. Considering this is not even a bug. If your bounty is 10,000 or higher, guards won't reason with you. They will attack on sight.

I had this exact same bug (and bug it is as the bounty is well under 10,000 and they guards just get stuck in a conversation loop or attack).

But here is a fix!! or at least there was for me...

When the guards are attackgin you make your way to the Talos statue when the dude asked to meet you originally. Make sure the guards are in there and have them atack you, then sheath your weapon. They will have additional conversation options and once you go through the loop once, they will allow you to pay of your bounty and evertything goes back to normal.

Worked perfectly for me :)

Ok, sorry, re-reading that, it made no sense what so ever lol.

The Markath bug, that I presume me are all talking about, where the guards constantly either attack you or just loop through the conversation can be fixed.

First up attack any guard in Markath and make them pursue you / be agressive. Lead them up to the Shrine of Talos that is on the second level. Go through the door and there will be 4 - 5 guards in there that were the original guards who killed the guy that asked to meet you there when the initial Markath Foresworn murder happened.

Once they have noticed you and start attacking, sheath your weapon so the conversation starts. These guards will have different options to the usual bugged guards. Cycle through these options until you get to the "No one escapes from blah blah mine" ... then do the other option line available. You will then be able to pay off your bounty and guards will no longer attack you.

Worked for me.

Hope that makes more sense.

Cant they are already dead.... If I go back even after the the quest. They are still there dead...

They respawned for me after X days. Initially, as you say, they were not in there, just their dead bodies ... but honestly, they do eventually come back.

I too, have now experienced the bug. I will attempt Thomarse's 'fix' to the bug by revisiting the Shrine of Talos in Markarth, but my hopes aren't high. I never liked visiting Markarth in the first place, but this bug, along with the many other broken quests I now have to deal with, as well as the general escalating lag that I experience, have ensured that this game is my first and very last game I will have bought from Bethesda.

It's truly a wonder to me how Skyrim was even published, let alone win the Game of the Year award.

Bethesda, learn how to code a game. That or try a smaller project, one that you may be capable of handling.

I had this same bug and I cant even do the "fix" because the gaurds arent in the shrine. I just killed every gaurd in the reach and they havent came back yet lol its been awhile too.
