Is master difficulty not hard enough for you?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 2:08 am

Have you tried to play through Skyrim without leveling up your character (level 1, no perks) whilst playing on Master difficulty.

Do you think its possible? Have you already done so?

I would like to hear your thoughts

There is at least one person here who doesn't level up and remains at 1. They seem to enjoy it. But for me that would be video game Hell.

Some fights are impossible unless you are prepared.

1. Store brought potions to increase magic and elemental resistance. Keep master level scrolls. Yes instead of being vendor junk, you want to keep those now.
2. During key fights where you know the enemy is going to reanimate dead bodies lying around, you do it first via the Ritual Stone power.
3. A few quests are level locked so that you will miss out on it, including 3-4 artifacts.

More random thoughs:

1. Werewolf is strong. Howl of terror has a level limit. At high level games it becomes useless. But in your game, it works all the time except on dragons and priests.

2. Your best bet is crafting Summon Atronach Staff in winterhold. Black star let's you keep it topped up.

3. Pure builds like pure warrior or mages don't work. A swordspell is better.

4. You can't block very well, especially against trolls. Your armor rating is 200ish at best without smithing perks so you want to "dodge" their attacks usually.

5. Shouts are much more powerful because they are not level dependent. Their hard numbers give you an edge in a world where enemies are generally as low level as you are. Disarm works especially well.

6. Some dungeons are harder than others. The general rule is that the further they are from the center, the higher their minimum level. I have fought dungeons where their minimum level is in the 15+ and every Dragur scourge is like a mini-boss.

7. The most dangerous non-boss opponents are Falmers. A poison hit from a shadow master kills you.

8. I never bring followers. Since they are leveled with you, and most of the time you are fighting stuff multiple levels higher, they don't do much good. Even a summoned fire elemental is stronger.

9. There is actually no fight you can't win with a fully charged Summon Storm Atronach Staff and bounded bow to help out. Most priests are taken out this way. Beware that priests can turn your summoned Frost atronach.

1. Altmer is best race overall with an extra 50 magicka.

2. Breton with Atronach standing stone and Dragonskin for 100% Magic absorption can get you pass normally very hard encounters, such as inside Azura's Star.

3. Orcs are third best

4. Werewolves are better than Vampires as you can't use the Necromage combo. And again, Howl of Terror is beast.

5. The Archmage's robes are the strongest piece of equipment you can obtain in game. Debateable in the standard game, but without the slightest doubt in this mode.

6. Paralyze potions and Chillrend can prove invaluable in normally very hard fights.

7. Hard health and magicka is usually preferred over armor/resists/fortify because those only start to worth more when you are nearing their caps. You wouldn't get anywhere near their caps in this game.

Not really. You need room to run away if things get bad. They follow behind you and can block your exit often, especially if they have their own summons, which they tend to summon beside themselves.

If they trigger the swinging spike wall of doom trap. It's an instant KO for you. You cannot survive it until you have 200ish health and armor. That only happens very late in the game, if at all.

I'm not a sadist and I'm not a liar.
I get my head kicked in on Master and its not entertaining.

It's possible.. but when you're going through levels 1 - 30 or 40, it can be a real pain in the ass sometimes.

I'm sure if you read my tips above, you will learn that, instead of just having to hit monsters more times, it is a whole different game where some strategies become necessary to survive.

Your suggestion rely to much on equipment boosts, and juggling bonuses. and I'm more of a point that difficulty shouldn't have just been about health and damage delt.

Please someone show me a youtube video of someone actually playing master difficulty properly without just using obvious exploits that essential break the gameplay of the game. I.e sneak mode murders/jumping onto the top of rocks to get a kill etc

quality AI here folks.
It's almost impossible to avoid in real-time combat. The game engine does not know what the player is going to do next. If it begins one of the taunt sound files and a second later the player kills the NPC, there's not much the game engine can do about it other than shutting off sound in the middle of playback. Which would sound just as odd in its own way as continuing to play the sound.

well you can find plenty using legitimate buffs from alchemy/enchanting..stuff like that. the game becomes easy when you can take out a Draugr death lord in three hits because of enchantments

Pseron-

Sure they could have if they put the effort. if the "A.I" gives some dialog based on race/werewolf/disease/skills I'm sure a getactorvalue health < 50%. Use Dialog option #334 + increase likely hood to flee 70%

no not an exact representation but a plausible example, doesn't even need A.I Tweaks
