Is Midnight Release Worth Social Suicide?

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 4:56 am

Still risky. What if a reporter focuses on him?

Reporter: Evening sir! Looking forward to slaying mighty dragons and looting epic dungeons?
You Maniacs!: Umm, dunno what you're talking about. I'm here to buy an ethernet cable.
Reporter: At midnight? And in a queue of 60+ nerds?
You Maniacs!: Problem?
Reporter: Oh and look, you have a <3 TES wristband! How cute! Enjoy your adventures in the magical land of Skyrim sir!
You Maniacs!: My life is ruined.
No.

Reporter: Evening sir! Looking forward to slaying mighty dragons and looting epic dungeons?
You Maniacs!: Hell yeah! You ain't Joe Camel cool if you ain't playin' Skyrim. *blow cigar smoke in the reporters face*

That's how you remain cool no matter what your doing.

I never go to these kind of events, not because I'm ashamed but because they obviously are at a time when I usually go to bed. I don't have Friday off and I don't feel like standing in queue for hours. Especially when I've already pre-ordered the game and it will be delivered on Thursday or Friday anyway.

You know the last time there was a game release this big some shop gave first 100 customers a 40" plasma screen TV free with their game (or was it console?) It might have been the PS3's motion sensor device thingy. Point is, go there and you might get really cool free stuff. If You find yourself on camera just be yourself and don't do a live dragon shout and you'll be fine.

I'm still undecided on whether I'm going to my midnight release but that's simply because I have obligations that require a sufficient nights rest in order to take care of properly. That and I don't feel like hearing my wife joke's. All in good fun of course, but still don't feel like hearing them. That being said though, the line might be shorter at night than during the day due to the cold so that might be a plus for you. Also, I don't know how the news crews do it in the UK but from my experience here in the US they tend to ask people if they can interview them before being interviewed. If you say no to them they go to someone else. Again, don't know how they do it there.

To be honest, I don't much. I mainly thought it would be an amusing discussion and I haven't seen anyone talking about these things. Seemed a good way to kick things off.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

Social suicide is of course a massive exaggeration.

It's sixual suicide more likely... My guy mates would have a laugh, and probably make me a wand or something.. but still hang out. The girls I know (except my fiance, she has to put up with it. I hid it for ages though :/) would be like ew.

Edit,
That's just with the girls I know. I assume there's lots of girls who are, infact, not weirded out by people playing wizardy games. I just don't know them. Don't mean to offend...

They can't legally put your face on TV without your guardian or your own consent so there would be no problem

People need to get better friends, or learn to stand up for themselves and be confident. I'm pretty much the opposite of nerd, as are my friends, and I know quite a few attractive girls. If any of them tried to give me [censored] for going to a midnight release, I'd easily shut them down.

I could ask to be interviewed in front of a bright light with voice distorted. That would be pretty funny. Of course, then I'd be so chuffed I'd have to tell everyone that was me, which kind of defeats the whole point..

at college i've the sort of people who you'd expect to walk around like this talking about the game and even the midnight launch in London (which means they were considering taking a train to go to the midnight release).. so its not as "socially unnacceptable" as you might think

None of my friends are gamers in the slightest, and playing a sword and sorcery RPG is kind of a dirty little secret for me

You need to come out of the dungeon man.

I don't know about the UK, but I'm pretty sure that's not true in the US. I doubt the pedophiles caught on "To Catch a Predator" consented to being shown on TV.
