Might there be cliff racers in Dragonborn?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 8:01 am

Because Cliff Racers were driven off Vvardenfell by St. Jiub. I would be inclined to believe that at least some of those damned birds made their way on Solstheim.
I don't see Beth adding them back. I think they learned from Morrowind and IMO it would be a huge wast of time.

Has anyone mentioned how the Cliff Racers are responsible for driving out the dragons from Morrowind/Vvardenfell? :P

At least one managed to avoid the beasts.
It would be cool the witness a battle between a Dragon and a swarm of Solstheim Cliffracers.

I always thought that that Cliffracers were the Tamrielic version of Seagulls (Silver gulls here in Aus), except larger and much more likely to peck your eyes out. lol

Cliffracers are the Tamrielic version of rats. They carry diseases and... oh wait, we already have rats (and everything in Morrowind carries disease). Cliffracers - flying rats. But then again, I've never had a problem with rats following me around and pecking my eyes out.

I seem to remember NPCs in Oblivion stating how Juib "Drove them out of Morrowind" rather than kill them all, and I don't remember reading in his opus or through talking to him in Dawnguard anything about extinction.

Theres nothing to say they are gone forever, but I doubt they will return in Dragonborn.
Also I sincerely hope they will not return.

It can be a nice business idea. Add them, make them tremendously annoying and then release expensive DLC that gives you some kind of Cliffracers repellent. $$$

"Cliff Racers are large flying creatures found throughout Vvardenfell. They are very aggressive and will attack anyone in sight. Cliff Racers have good vision range, and will often detect and follow the player without being noticed. This can result in swarms of them descending upon the unwary adventurer.

The development team has admitted that the sheer number of cliff racers in the game was a mistake. (lol)

In Oblivion, Jiub is said to have driven the Cliff Racers off the island and was made a saint because of it."

So, yes, he drove them off Vvardenfell, nothing more. They aren't extinct by any means. They're all probably living in some cave in Blackmarsh.

As long as I don't end up spending money to add the most hated thing in Tamriel back into the games I'm happy. But I think the whole Saint Juib thing is Bethesda's way of saying they will never return in game.

And Daniel Boone killed a grizzly bear with a pen knife.

Why does everyone take the claims of NPCs as actual gospel rather than just claims? Jiub couldn't have ... you know ... exaggerated?

Books and NPC dialogue in game are treated as gospel even though books and people in our own world are often wrong. Then, when what the the player actually experiences in the game contradicts the words (written or spoken) of some NPC many players jump to the conclusion not that the NPC was either mistaken or lying, but that the game designers are contradicting their own lore.
I doubt that if he lied he would have gotten a festival dedicated to him, or been named a saint.

I distinctly remember reading somewhere that cliffracers were partially responsible for wiping out dragons near Vvardenfell.

Imagine every three seconds a diseased bird flying down just out of striking range with a sword and stabbing you in the head with its tail and giving you a disease. That my friend is a Cliff Racer.
Don't forget the irritating noise they made. Oh.. the horror...

Yes, but there was at least one surviving Dragon, going by the book "Twin Secrets".

I don't see what the big problem is with cliffracers. I've been playing Morrowind for the past few days, and the most I've fought at one time was 2. I'd like to see what a cliffracer would look like in the Skyrim engine.

You won't grasp why they are a problem until you spend an extended period of time on Vvardenfell. They are possibly the most annoying creature Bethesda have ever concocted.

I've had the game since it released and have put thousands of hours into it and I would rather gouge out my eyes before encountering another one tho I did just encounter a dozen this morning playing Morrowind

I highly doubt that they will add them again and I agree. I think the ol St. Jiub thing was them saying "hey they're gone and not coming back. Ever!"

Hahaha, yeah, sounds exactly like something that would happen.
