I don't really want a minimap I find often if I have one I spend a lot of game time looking at it rather then looking at the terrain around me and judging the situation myself...I simply look at the minimap and the icons on it.

However if there was some kind of minimap linked to a power helmet or something I might be ok with it, not sure I would use it but it would be a bit more characterfull to the helmet rather then something that is omnipresent.

The Perception and Quest direction indicator bottom left really performs the same as a minimap in some respects...it shows you which way to go and what enemies/npcs are nearby....I would question the worth of what an actual minimap would add to this considering most locations are not close enough to be shown on a minimap.

No. That's why we have the pipboy. With a map it will take away form the lone explore feeling. Why would we have a map of places we have not been? This bugs me about FO3 that we have a map that is so clear. FO1 and FO2 just give us a very rough idea of where things are. I love just walking around getting lost. If I have a map telling me where I am going all the time right there on the screen that will svck.

[devil's advocate]You have to stop what you're doing to look at a map in real life, too.[/devil's advocate]

I agree. I spent all of Far Cry 2 driving around with the map open, looking down at it, barely watching the road. Its a shame too; that game is pretty.

No on the mini map but I do hope they fixed the map. It was a pain trying to read the maps when it showed a top down view of all levels and you didnt know what was what. The local map was alittle better but it only showed areas that you could visually see until you explore it.

I hope the pipboy is not going to magically know where everything is. I what FO2 had the ability to find maps and scan them into the pipboy.

Since we don't know how a pip boy works theres no evidence to say it dosn't already know the layout of an area from other data taken from a previous user, downloaded from every single terminal you ever use, scanned from local terminals, recieved info from antenna or satelite signals or simply that your character puts the data in manual as you move about. Just use your imagination a bit because "magically knowing" is really the argument of someone not using their imagination.

No constant map, thanks.

Unlikely to extremes, but I'd like if the "the quest item you're supposed to 'find' is right here" arrow became a toggleable option too. (Well I'd actually like it was completely eliminated, but it's not hard to guess how much furor that would cause.)

No I am sure it's magic. How can it know there is a tunnel there or a shack door there? If it was full of pre-war date then use the pre-war maps but after a nuclear war things change. I agree we can get data from terminals but there should be a computer option to download that data. Are map should be blank or every rudimentary till we get that data. Other people could have added data but for them to have been to every loaction and inside every building is hard to believe. Having satelite signals like gps I hope is never apart of fallout.

That's why I want what FO2 had, maps that could be scanned into the pipboy to find locations.

I would like to see it doing a scan at least if that was the case.

It'd be pretty convenient for those confusing buildings with a billion rooms and floors. But I wouldn't care for it much, I don't like relying on maps too much.
Plus bringing up the PipBoy doesn't seem hard for me at all, it only takes 3 seconds.

I found that with the mini-map in GTA4, I was looking at that more than the actual world. So NO.

No...i'm sorry, i dont like the idea.
The whole map should be like the small local map where you uncover where you travel,if you ain't been to that area it should be blacked out.
Also there should'nt be a marker telling you where to go either in my opinion, would be better if the quest giver etc said the general direction, leaving more room for exploration,or as styles said getting lost......I also like styles idea about having to download maps from terminals etc, would work well for indoor/underground areas too.
Just my thoughts :)

Waiting for this game is busting my balls :ahhh:

Ummm the location doesn't show up on the world map until you find it? What's the problem? Its not like you can bring up the map at the very beginning of the game and have it all filled it and see every location.

Well, not if it's forced on us, but if it's optional then it's fine with me, but In that case I'd rather have it be a component that you would have to buy for your pip-boy. (To make some use of all the useless money)

So everything that can be enabled via console command should be removed right? In the normal game you just can't activate that perk so yea in essence you can cheat the game right from the start and have a full map but not if you play normally. So again what's wrong with the current map system? Revealing locations on the world map as you find them is perfectly fine.

Was half asleep when I made that post, what I ment was the local map as you explore and learn the areas of the building it shows a top down view of every level with walls all over the place. I think it would be better if it would only show the level you are on so you can use it for navigation if youve been through the building and now trying to find a quick way out.

That was one of the things I hated about the local map is that it showed all levels of the building basically and it over laps. I use the local map alot inside buildings to get my bearings
