The Road is by far the most depressing film I have ever seen although, it is at the same time hopeful. The scenario of that film has to be one of the most grim, bleak situations imaginable while still seeming realistic. It spoke to me as a parent as well. I found that the themes of the movie are applicable to today's world. You should watch if you haven't, Jagar, but prepare to be depressed for a week after. Also, the book goes into even more brutal detail.

That was a good film, expected it to be a bit of a I am Legend knockoff and was pleasently (sort of) surprised.

When film makers try to force emotions of sadness upon me I just get pissed and lose any relation I had to the movie(s).
Eg.:

Director: Now a child is dying. This is a sad event. Cry you mindless sheep (the audience)!
Child: Now I am sad and crying. Now I will cry "Daddy!"/"Mommy!" or some sugar-coated crap like that to further abuse your emotions, while apparently 'sad music' plays in the background.
Audience: "Noo! This is sad."
> Tears drip from (way too easily impressed) audience
Me: WTF is this crap? It svcks.

.... Also, anytime an animal character dies. Like Sam from I Am Legend.

That reminded my of a very very sad moment for me. In "Gone with the Wind" Scarlett O'Hara rides a horse to death in trying to get home (to see the aftermath of Sherman). I felt so sorry for that horse.

The entirety of Shutter Island, but especially the ending. Also, Grave of the Fireflies is horribly depressing.

Dogville as a whole, but especially the ending (and specifically because the story made me feel it was all justified), was very depressing -- in a good way, though. One of the best movies I've seen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfmkRi_tr9c from The Dark Knight is highly depressing because it's so bleak yet so perfect in its observation of a developed society.

This, it's an abomination, join the purge squad!

Oh yes we are an abomination and must be purged. Please! Tell us what we can and can't enjoy!

Oh and I suggest you read this:

OP: I'm not really sure, I'd have to think about it.

Shutter island has to be the most interesting movie that I have ever watched. It really makes you question reality, which I loved.

The most depressing part of any movie for me has to have been the Pokemon movie where ash gets turned to stone. that was the one movie I cried in... then again, I was 8 years old at the time.
