Of course it is, Skyrim is done, time to move on to next thing and not worry about fixing bugs or anything else ;)

Cool though, thanks for the shots.

For modders of course. Easier to start to recreate other provinces, when you have whole heightrmap.

Oblivion did this as well. You could turn off borders in the ini and walk to the north coast of Skyrim.

Is the scale right?

I mean, if you walk from the southern border of Skyrim to White Gold Tower, is the distance what it should be if you compare it to the time it takes to walk across Skyrim and compare ratios with the map of Tamriel?

If so, pretty darn nice! If not, then it means its just intended as scenery. Perhaps they once intended to include Levitation in some form, etc.

It does appear accurate. Have you walked to white gold tower yet?

Probably due to the 3d map. So it's not just blank flat land outside of the accessable Skyrim area. This way there is still lakes and mountains when you view the map. Plus they probably already had it from Oblivion, Morrowind, and they probably made up some quick heightmaps for Hammerfell.

Its not uncommon to create larger heightmaps then what you actually plan on using. On one hand- its there if they wanted to use it- and on the other they can get the scale right.

And OP: The island isnt Morrowind, it is Vvardinfel, an Island dominating the morrowind region.

I don't have the game yet, but, is there an option in the ini to turn off the borders like there was in Oblivion? Can we then travel outside of Skyrim?

Thanks. *starts to twitch*
I need my mod tools sooo bad right now.

Now that I think about it, there is an issue with the Vvardenfelll area.
Spoiler
Vivec and the area around it is supposed to be a bay now. The scathing bay, iirc.

It doesn't look like that's the case on that map. (Hard to tell though.)

Just add bBorderRegionsEnabled=0 in Skyrim.ini under general tab.

Oops, yeah. :) And actually Vvardenfell.

I had a look at lightwaves heightmap and a lot of the shown landmasses are not part of it.... I guess a lot of the other provinces shown in the video is probably lod land only...we had the same in oblivion ...if so, it will probably be possible to convert this lod land into a proper working heightmap....but we cant say anything for sure before we have finally seen it in the the creation kit...

cheers

Unlikely. That would be a massive amount of content for a DLC, and they seem to be doing one province = one game. But oh, the fun modders will have! It's just too bad that it looks like there are hard edges to the heightmap.

With the exception of Arena and Daggerfall, it's been that way forever. Arena was good, and Daggerfall was just HUGE, but void of interesting or unique content. I'd love to see a Daggerfall based game that focused on the features and story of Daggerfall rather than the scale.

Skyrim feels so much like Morrowind that it's not even funny (some of the music feels the same particularly and may even be recycled; not a bad thing at all IMO) and this is actually good. The parts I don't like are FAR outnumbered by the parts I DO like.

You can see them in some cases. There's another thread in this forum where people are anolyzing these heightmaps and other stuff for future or other projects. But they tested it and managed to see parts of the rest of Tamriel (in these heightmaps) from some of the highest peaks.

Yes, when I showed Brash this video she told me she'd seen the White Gold tower from a mountain top.

I recall Brash announcing that she would never play Skyrim due to Steam.

======

My hope is that if we (Onra and/or anyone helping) can get a full continent Tamriel in this world space and that if started soon enough we can avoid the overcrowding that plagues the Oblivion modded worldspace.

And avoid the whole closed team approach to adding provinces. Suddenly the pop up 4 years later with a half-playable separate worldspace.

The quality on those provinces looks like LOD to me. If there's no actual landscape it's not really going to be that useful. Someone would need to find out if the actual cells have been populated with landscape data. My guess is no, because landscape data takes up an enormous amount of space in an ESM/ESP file and Skyrim.esm is actually smaller than Oblivion.esm. There's no way it has full landscape data for 4 extra provinces included.
