Mount & Blade style was a better way to go?

Think TESO could have been great with Jade Empire combat.

Or faster Kingdom Hearts combat.

In the M&B games you choose which direction you attack/block in based on how you move the mouse, which is not so in TES games.

Apparently, you have never played Daggerfall.

How about elder scrolls style, is that too much to ask! I mean really, I don't want warcraft, I don't want mount and blade, I simply just want elder scrolls! First person real time combat please...

Quite frankly, I find Mount & Blade's combat to be almost identical to Oblivion's. It has more options for how attack type is determined, and timing is more important for weapon parries, but otherwise, melee infantry combat is pretty simple. The game's main appeal comes from mass combat and mounted combat, both of which the game handles very well.

It doesn't have to be first person to be TES, i and many others have played MW/OB/SK all fully in 3rd person.

M&B is 3rd and 1st person game. Although, I like the 3rd person better because the 1st person camera in M&B Warband makes me dizzy during combat.

But you have to admit, 1st person feels much more intence.

If you're referring to M&B: Warband, well, if it makes me dizzy then the "intense" factor loses its charm. I love fp views but some games don't implement this very fluidly. In any case, M&B Warband is a remarkable game that I'm beginning to love it as much as my beloved Morrowind.

I'd say no. M&B in MP is hard game which requires tons of experience and fast internet connection (anything over 100 pings is bad). For n00bs with sluggish internet it's not pleasant game at all. I quit M&B MP as i was always doomed to play with close to 200 pings, which means that when i start to block i'm already dead. And i started to get good at blocking AI attacks in SP (heck i spent tens of hours just to drill my blocking skills in training area)... So i wasn't totally worthless n0 0b either.

So no, too demanding.

am I the only person in this forum who played Darkfall Online? As far as mechanics were concerned it WAS The Elder Scrolls, it had first person combat, free-aim, yes there were skills you mapped to a hotbar, but the combat was real and visceral like TES, and it had NO classes, everything was skill based. If any game is to be ripped off it should have been that one. DFO had a lot of flaws I won't lie but they were also a small production company in Greece, they didn't have the talent or the budget that Zenimax could front.

I really wish they had had a chance to play Darkfall Online before they decided on their current design, but no use lamenting what can now never be

In the M&B games you choose which direction you attack/block in based on how you move the mouse, which is not so in TES games.
In Morrowind you change between these based on how your moving. Moves sideways=slash move forward=stab stand=chop
Arena and Daggerfall you used the right mouse button and move the mouse in the same directions stated above for the same attacks.
