Movie to watch

Post » Tue May 22, 2012 2:56 am

Any genre, nothing which came out this year, and nothing obscure. Those are the only requirements.

Any ideas? I keep searching and searching but I've either already watched them or they're not interesting enough, and I really need something for tonight!

Thanks.

Go and see the "Avengers".

Best superhero movie since the original "Superman".

Otherwise you can watch "The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo" (the American release) and then come back and tell us what it's like as I've only read the books and seen the original Swedish version.

Specify "obscure" (preferably with an example).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strange_Days_%28film%29? That might fall in the 'obscure category... uh, The Thirtieth Warrior, The Fifth Element, Zombieland, Mirrormask, Eastern Promises, Snatch. Any of those any good?

I've watched Avengers last week, and TGWTDT I had watched the swedish version.

I've watched Zombieland and Snatch. Haven't heard of the others, I'll have to check them out.

Hmm, I guess 'unknown for pretty good reasons'. That is a bit too subjective though. Just suggest some movies and I'll check them out myself then.

Inland Empire
Mulholland Drive
Melancholia
Dogville
Antichrist
Magnolia
Boogie Nights
There Will Be Blood
Once upon a time in America
Once upon a time in the west
..there's a few. Most of 'em pretty lengthy and thoughtful so time passes by nicely.

And none of 'em "unknown for a reason".

Excellent.

We have your film: "The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo": American Version.

At 2 hours 38 minutes you'll certainly get your money's worth and more importantly you can tell those of us who've read the books and watched the original Swedish version if there's any point watching the American Version.

Lake Mungo. Best damned mockumentary horror film I ever saw. It's a little obscure, being a relatively unknown Australian film, but it's one of those movies that deserves far more attention than it got. The revelation near the end had me paranoid at night for weeks.

The Prestige

Probably my favourite Christopher Nolan movie.
Agreed. This movie just gets more brilliant every time I see it.

Don't read any synopses or see any trailers if you haven't seen The Prestige. Just go into it blind.

Two movies from 2011 that I've watched and really enjoyed recently: Fright Night and The Adjustment Bureau. Fright Night is a fun vampire movie, Colin Farrell makes a creepy vampire and Anton Yelchin is very likable. The Adjustment Bureau is a nice romantic thriller, if you can imagine that. Came for Emily Blunt, stayed for the story.

It's a bit like Memento. The second time you watch it you look at it with a completely different perspective. :D

There's a really good documentary on China and slave/slave labour. I remember reading about it on Kotaku. Apparently it pissed off the Chinese government.

Layer Cake is a good ganster flick. Its really really good.

Reservoir Dogs. Watchmen. Fight Club.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World, and V for Vendetta.

I will check out the others mentioned. Undecaf wins the 'never heard of these' post!

Thank you all.

Also, I remembered I hadn't watched Pursuit of Happyness. I really need to watch that.

Sherlock Holmes; A Game of Shadows. I really enjoyed it, it's a refreshing take on the typical action movie and the storyline was interesting for me too.

Oh and by Talos don't watch any superhero movie (other than Watchmen) or an installment of the Transformer series. For your own good lad don't! :nope:

Rashomon, Seven Samurai, Citizen Kane. I personally like Herzogs psychological movies with Kinsky, Carpenters work and Roger Cormans horrors.
