Moving from PC to Xbox 360?

Post » Wed Jan 02, 2013 12:32 pm

I just ordered an Xbox 360 with skyrim included and since it'll be a week until I can get my hands on it I'm curious about what I can expect. I'm not looking for a platform war just information for someone who has never owned a video game system before. I should also add that Skyrim has absolutely no resale value whatsoever in these parts so I'll have to keep it regardless of wether I like it or not. Are there many bugs on the 360? I know that the PS3 version is unplayable. Also, how are the controls, is it hard to aim with bows and magic?

The only major bugs I have run into so far are few, but I'll list them:
  • After the Main Quest, if you forget to speak to
    Spoiler
    Delphine
    ,
    Spoiler
    Esbern
    follows you round incessantly.
  • The priest in the city Markarth will glitch and constantly talk to you in the Keep if you don't do his quest right (i.e. ignore his dialogue).
  • One of Dawnguard's shouts, Drain Vitality, is glitched, so you must get all of Marked for Death (i.e. a shout that weakens foes) before it.
Those are really the only major bugs I have run into though. You should be fine.

I use the bow and it becomes a reflex if you use it for a while. If you still have trouble with it there's a perk that slows down the world, so that can help. For the magic, I find that it's very hard to aim from a distance of about a hundred feet, but that's usually so far that it doesn't even matter.

Other people could give you some other common bugs, but it's really not been too bad for me.

Changing from PC Skyrim to XBOX 360 Skyrim seems like a downgrade to me. Sure, the add-ons come out faster, but there are a ton of awesome fan-made mods that you can't use on XBOX.

"Skyrim" is amazing on the XBox 360.

It looks brilliant.

It plays brilliant.

It sounds brilliant.

You might not be able to MOD but I've had the game over a year and haven't come close to doing everything or experiencing everything.

If anything you may find yourself enjoying the game more because you'll actually be playing it rather than being obsessed with changing it with mods.

Brilliant experience.

Same on PC with 2x the graphic resolution and 2x the draw distance to avoid major eye bleeding.

Mods are pretty much the only thing you're missing out on. There are some crazy graphics enhancement mods for the PC that I, an Xbox user, are incredibly jealous of.

PS3 unplayable? I hope you didn't actually mean that as I have spent many hours of my life playing on that console with little to no bugs. Although for some PS3 owners they can play it fine, others apparently can barely play it. But controls are easy once you get used to them.

Why not just get Skyrin for the PC and use an Xbox controller?
  • Bad or Unaffordable PC
  • Xbox Live (talk with people)
  • Less of a switch between games (i.e. going from Skyrim to Minecraft Xbox Arcade Edition)
Edit: Ah! And DLC, but that won't last forever.

Wait, so you're moving from PC? Do you already own Skyrim on the PC or have you just had all your gaming experiences on PC?

I guess...

EDIT : The first one is solid, but the rest are just fishing.

Well....there are quite a few bugs, but just because some people encounter certain bugs, doesn't mean you will. It pretty much depends on how lucky/unlucky you are.
On one character I couldn't complete the thieves guild quest line, because the final quest was never triggered though I met all requirements.
I got stuck in the abandoned house in Markarth, because the door did not unlock when it was supposed to.
An NPC I was supposed to talk to to complete a quest, died an untimely death while I was on my way to meet him, and unfortunately dead people aren't very talkative. Actually...that particular scenario happened a number of times during different questlines.
The list goes on.

Save regularly and you should be fine. Dead NPCs however can be a real issue, because it's difficult to determine when they died, if you weren't present at the time of their demise.

There are bugs on every version. It's something you learn to deal with on every Bethesda game. 360 version plays and looks fine as long as you are happy with no mods. Obviously the graphics will look way, way better on the PC version especially with mods. But the 360 is fine. I also really like the Kinect for switching between spells, weapons and gear, and using potions, quick saving, ect without having to look at menus. It adds a lot of functionality to the game and keeps me in the action instead of constantly looking at menu selections. Other than that it's the same game. If you're used to a mouse and haven't aimed with a controller before get ready to be a little frustrated at first. It takes a bit to get used to but after a few hours it will start to feel better. I played on PC exclusively for a long time and going to the controller was a struggle for me at first. I'm still a little better at aiming with the mouse but do just fine on the controller now. It just takes practice.

In before righteous PC [censored] pillage this thread. But it is true. Skyrim works far better on the PC. With the many mods and adjustments you can do, there is no limitations as to how you want to play the game. Skryim runs well on the Xbox, and the early DLC is always good, but PC is your best bet for any Bethesda game in the long run. Have you checked out any of the mods? It's outstanding what you can do. I play Skyrim and all of my games on Xbox and even I know PC is the best bet. I just lack the computer to run such and it can be very expensive.

"Dragonborn" looks great on PC I can create the entire island of Solstheim with the Creation Kit it lets you create new terrain in the existing world of Skyrim you can raise it or lower it on land and in the water as well as create a new world space so you can go to it through things like a portal. There are also mods that add Bonemold, Chitin, and Stalhrim armor it doesn't look like Dragonborns armor because that is illegal for modders to port stuff like that but it looks similar. There are also mod(s) that let you fly dragons and other animals, creatures such as unicorns. There are also mod(s) that let you mount so many different animals, creatures, monsters not just horses.

Here is the mount mods.

Also this. However to actually answer the OPs question, I have experienced very little bugs, that doesn't mean you won't though.

Be prepared to get used to the different look sensitivity. Xbox is locked at 30fps so the camera movement feels a lot different to on the PC (even at the same 30fps). Once you get used to it it's fine, but I do find it's a lot less accurate at first, and I seemed to overshoot how much movement is required. I guess you could call it more "laggy", but like I said once you're used to it it's okay, just a different feeling.

Also, remember to keep even more saves as you can't use the console to fix any issues you experience. Graphics are good and the game still looks stunning, obviously not as good as a high end PC but still solid nonetheless. Textures are worse and so is medium and distant detail, but lighting is more or less the same. Loading times are much, much longer than a decent PC, so be prepared for that; I suggest you do something constructive whilst waiting :P

Also mods aren't available which can be a major setback if you're used to being able to change and add things at will (including fixing bugs). Overall whilst the PC version is obviously technically superior, once you get past some issues (which may or may not be of grave importance to you), it's still a fantastic game regardless of the platform.

This is the truest thing I've seen on here at all except for one mention "affordable PC".
I spent so many countless hours in Morrowind trying to mod it out to it's fullest and 9/10 times when you mod it too much it just breaks the game.. So mods in itself is good but too many mods just seem to screw everything up even more because of conflicting coding and programming.

The Verdict would be that it is cheaper to play it on a console (PS3 or Xbox 360) although PS3 do not get DLC at this point. But the bugs are just about the same and the gameplay experience is the same also. Graphics does not make a game any better in gameplay nor mechanics even if you do have the 1500 dollars. It's a good game regardless what you play it on but if you have it for Xbox, I'd play the heck out of it anyways.

As a 360 player, I suggest getting as many quests from bartenders as possible.
