So much for smith dagger farming.

I must be going into the wrong dwemer ruins because they are surprisingly devoid of anything interesting other than angry falmer and automatons.

Since I began Smithing, I've never come out of a Dwarven ruin with anything less than the ability to make 90+ ingots. At the ruin in Markarth, I had to make two trips with me and a follower almost totally loaded both times. IIRC, that made nearly 200 ingots. That's about 50 suits of armor, with the ability to then improve each set.

just make ebony daggers.

Yeah, if you're smithing is at 90 and you have all the perks. Even Gloombound only shells out around 36 ore, giving you a whopping total of 18 ingots. It's not exactly the most efficient way to build up the smithing numbers.

At any rate, I never did the iron dagger thing and I still managed to pump my Smithing up pretty quickly via leather and dwarven. There's enough wolves and bears to outfit the Legion in leather armor.

Transmute all the iron ore to Gold ore and make gold necklaces instead. All you have to do is wait one hour for your magika to regenerate, and this isn't a great obstacle, if you are willing to grind smithing skills in the first place.

gone are the days of iron dagger spam fest XD

Now for the days of Leather Helm spam fest! (2 leather, 1 strip, 60 value.)

Seriously, though, it's nice to have a better reason to make a variety of things. I still did, back in the previous patches, because I had the materials so why not.....

This fix brings smithing in line with enchanting, alchemy, pickpocket, speech, etc. Skill xp based on item value. It's a good fix. Grinding smithing is still very easy, if you are so inclined. Learn transmute and carry a pickaxe with you everywhere you go. Mine all the ore you come across and buy all the iron ore out of merchant inventories.

Makes sense. I always found that spam smithing and improving Leather Bracers to be much easier to mass produce for training than spamming Iron Daggers (though I'd produce both given the materials).

Still, I'm glad that more expensive and rarer items will advance the Smithing skill more than the simpler gear.

It always felt unrealistic doing it the other way...

I view smithing like planet scanning in Mass Effect 2. Making it slower just makes the game less fun. Clicking more buttons to get the same inevitable result is not fun or challenging. It's just button pushing
