Multi-screen resolution support?

Post » Fri Feb 11, 2011 9:55 pm

Chiming in to say that eyefinity is not working, at all, for me. Nested menu's aren't even on screen with a default install, without modifying any ini's. If I take the time to modify the ini's, I still can't get nested menu's to show, which means I can't even start the game without using the keyboard (and hoping I select the right thing).

Running 3 x 1080x1920 (in portait mode obviously, so total of 3240 x 1920), and nothing works. Wish to buy games that actually work. Atleast Fallout 3 was managable. Fallout New Vegas isn't.

It seems there's an issue with portrait mode and the game menu, that's also my preferred resolution and I have the same problem. Generally, in game, things work pretty well with portrait mode (I haven't managed to force myself to play very far, however) - does hacking/lockpicking display correctly?

The main problem seems to be the menu, and I can't find an ini setting that fixes that... anyone have any luck getting the nested menu to work with portrait mode Eyefinity?

So far it seems that the mene/interface can't be altered with the 'bEnableEyefinity' option enabled in the .ini. You have to set this from 'bEnableEyefinity=1' to 'bEnableEyefinity=0' to be able to get changes to the menu/interface to work. Having the Eyefinity mode enabled in the .ini seems to hardlock some settings like the menu/interface spacing.

The lines in the .ini to alter the menu/ interface are:
'iSafeZoneXWide'
'iSsfeZoneX'
These are set to 15 initially and you have to change it to a setting based on your resolution. I run the game at 6048x1080 res and have those settings set to 925. If you disable the Eyefinity setting in the .ini you ned to change the resolution manually in the .ini as well.

Terminals seem OK, from what I can tell. I've managed to get into the game. Lockpicking doesn't work at all. It all displays, but it doesn't work properly on the screen.

Here is the fix guys :celebration:
However, this does NOT fix the binoculars. But HUD, Locks and Terminals are now useable.
Text is difficult to read in Terminals. Pipboy isn't too bad.
Here are the values I used:
[Display]
fDefaultFOV=92.0000
fPipboy1stPersonFOV=60.0
bEnableEyefinity=0

[Interface]
iSafeZoneXWide=770
iSafeZoneYWide=15
iSafeZoneX=770
iSafeZoneY=15

[RenderedTerminal]
fRenderedTerminalZoom=72

The trick to make this stick is to find a somewhat 'hidden' FalloutPrefs.ini.
You can find it in Steam > Userdata > UID folder (mine is just numbers) > 22380 > Remote > FalloutPrefs.ini.
This is the file that keeps overriding the one in My Games. So you have to do all three files.
Once you make the changes, set the Fallout.ini that is in your My Games > FalloutNV to Read Only.

Thanks goes to CrashAegis at WSGF for the soultion :goodjob:

Thanks for this, R - I messed around a bit more, disabling Eyefinity in the ini does seem to make ui adjustments 'stick.' The problem is if I change the menu so that the nested dialogs are visible, the in-game UI gets all screwed up ><. Perhaps it's just a matter of finding a setting that fixes the menu enough to be usable, but not so much that the UI gets overly jumbled?

I'm really not that interested in learning the details of the Fallout ini settings... that's the kind of thing I would like to pay someone else to do... like a game developer... so that I could, you know, JUST PLAY THE GAME. Le sigh.

'Course, I still don't know if lockpicking/hacking is going to work... maybe with a FOV adjustment?

Ugh, and now CrashAegis is need of your guys help - I'll post there as well after I poke about it for a while, but it seems that after this latest patch my settings will not stick no matter what. I'm playing around with deleting random files, turning Cloud on and off, anything I can think of, until I can any damn change to stick. It seems now that with this patch it is no longer using the falloutprefs.ini within the Steam userdata folder as I'm not getting warnings about it getting overwritten when I start the game up. If anyone is suffering from the same issue please pipe in, I'd like to start playing the damn game again instead of poking around miscellaneous INI files all night long.

I feel your pain, I'm having the same problem now. I posted back over at WSGF as well hoping we can get a community fix on this again. I was running pretty smooth until this patch =/

I had to take Steam into offline mode, it kept overwriting my settings.

I got it working OK, hacking and lockpicking just needed a FOV change. Now to see if I can get back online for achievements without Steam resetting everything... I know there was a thread about that somewhere...

What FoV did you have to change to fix lockpicking? I'm kinda curious how you did that...

What I've done is made a batch file, and a 'falloutbackup.ini' file. I first load the launcher, then run my batch file (which deletes the current fallout.ini, and then copies my backup.ini file to fallout.ini), then click play. This effectively makes is load my backup no matter what each time. Just a quick fix I thought up. svcks having to run a batch file to delete/replace the ini each time though.

Just switched fDefaultFOV from 75 to 90, seems to work fine in 3240 x 1920. Tried 135 first just for a big difference to see if the change was taking - went over to the SPECIAL machine and it was so small I couldn't actually click anything! It actually made me laugh, looked ridiculous. 90 seems fine, and the text isn't noticeably blurry on terminals (at least not to my eye).

My settings haven't reset after restarting in online mode, though I expected them to. Pretty sure they did yesterday, maybe a Steam change? *shrug*

Do we know what the relationship between ini files is? I'm aware of four so far, and I have no idea what takes precedent, or in what order they are grabbed:

Fallout.ini in My Games, which seems to take changes made in Fallout_default.ini?

FalloutPrefs.ini in My Games, which doesn't seem to do much, except this is the only place I can set isize?

Fallout_default.ini in Steamapps, which is where I made a bunch of mouse acceleration changes that seem to work and were copied to Fallout.ini?

And falloutprefs.ini in Steam\userdata... which I don't think I've ever touched.

It would be nice if I only had to change one file, maybe the default?

Edit - I haven't tried binoculars or scopes yet, no idea if they're working.

Sorry to hear your fix isn't working for you now. So far it has worked for me. Not sure why. I posted a reply at WSGF.
Strange it is. As far as I know I have done nothing different that to follow your instructions.
I hope you can figure out why yours isn't sticking.

Hi all

I have requested a moderator merge this thread into the original one here:
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1122530-multi-screen-resolution-support/
Hopefully she will so we can keep all discussions on triscreen issues in one thread.

At this point, I had asking, but I can't seem to get a few things working (nested menu's, lockpicking, etc...). If they seem to be working for you, any chance you could just post what changes you made? Would really help since we are running a very similar setup.

EDIT:Along with the mouse acceleration thing. It's funny how I have it set to the minimum and it still shoots all over the place.

The variable you are looking for to adjust that is fDefaultFov, sweet setting for most people is changing it from 75 to 180, although this may just be for people with around 5760 horizontal resolution so adjust as necessary. If the mouse acceleration fix isn't working either, are you about to actually change other important values (the iSafeZones, etc) and see an effect?

GG Bethesda/Obsidian, I purchase a game and fork out hard earned money on a new graphics card - and they cant even add simple support it? We shouldnt have to spend 50 years editing ini files to get a game working, damn it!

Oh, and thanks alot for Steam that insists on downloading the game when i try to install it from DVD!

Zero basically answered this -

iSize in prefs to 3240 x 1920
fDefaultPOV to 90
iSafe parameters, four of them I believe, to 50? (Think it's 50 - I'm on a laptop and can't check - which is wildly different from everyone else I've read about, but it seems to work for me).

I might fool around with the iSafe values some more to see if I can push the UI to the edges of the screen, right now they float a little more inward than I would like.

I am having an issue with the game where everytime I transition between areas I get a black box that appears on the center screen and disappears quickly. By "transition between areas" I mean when I go into a building or enter any area through a door or other method that requires a loading screen. This black box issues only happens with the "bEnableEyefinity" value set to 0. The black box does not fill the whole screen and is more like a mini widescreen black box, it is only annoying when it takes 3-5 seconds to go away in a room with enemies in the immediate vicinity. Anyone have any rough ideas as to why this is occuring or what is causing it?

I too experienced Portrait Mode Hell using my three Dell U2410s in a 3600x1920 Eyefinity setup. From the launcher, I could NOT get it to recognize I was using a 3600x1920 resolution. The resolution dropdown list was BLANK, no matter what I tried.

I ended up playing for a couple hours in Windowed Mode just to see if it was workable...

I have no idea if it was something I did or a patch I didn't see get installed, or what, but I say "experienced" in the past tense because it's working fantastic now.

After I went through all the posts over the last few days regarding fixing ini file settings and the like, I decided I'd just create a new user profile that's a standard user and run the game using the modded ini files at the end of this post.

It worked great with no lagging, no FOV issues or anything like that.

Once I saw it working with my temporary user account, I used my Administrator account to copy over the 2 files (Fallout.ini & FalloutPrefs.ini) , from the C:\Users\TEMPUSER\Documents\My Games folder to my main user's folder and it works great now.

FRAPS shows about 60-70FPS on average with very little to no lag in combat or in VATS, and the computer terminals and PIP Boy screens are clear and easy to read.

I'm pasting the modded sections of the ini files below in case anyone wants to see them.

Hmmm... FNY works fine for me (after some edits in the inis). Ok, texts on pip and terminal are terrible to read, but nonetheless I have a lot of fun right now ;)

Really, this makes me upset that someone from Beth can't make one response to this thread, instead they completely ignore it.

Well they have a lot on their plate at the moment. This is most likely low priority, if they have even noticed it. I would rather them sort out the corrupt/missing save issues, quest bugs, npc pathing issues, etc. But that doesn't mean I don't want attention on this thread at all.

With that being said, it still would be nice for some type of feedback.
