[REQ] [DREAM] [NONSENSE] Is Multiplayer Coop possible? Discu

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 1:09 am

I really feel lonely while roaming skyrim.

Would be nice if bethesda could help the coop initiative. I would GADLY buy a COOP DLC, so i could play skyrim with a fellow dragonborn. It could be done even in the storyline, meeting another dragonborn at the graybeards or something. Like "The Graybeards have found another Dragonorn! Can you imagine that?"

Still i dream, but i would invite others to dream with me.

IF we do a kind of petition with thousands of people signing it, would bethesda pay atention?

Who i have to kill to get my coop? \o/

Now for Skyrim, a coop mod, while possible and done to a certain degree before, is not feasible and probably will never get realized. Though an arena type of multiplayer mod where no savegames are required and you choose your equipment from an in-game menu or an in-game container and fight your human opponent, or take on some generated AI opponents is easier to pull off. And I also would donate money for that. But I'm sure a multiplayer mod will commence as soon as the CS is released. Like all those before, they will aim to fully implement coop storyline gameplay and fail in the end.
Having restricted co-op is definitely a much more realistic and feasable idea than trying to get all of Skyrim made for multiplayer. The areas wouldn't have to be limited to arenas, though. Having decently large dungeons designed for multiple players would bring a much needed variety to this mod than just arenas are capable of. Character wise, I'd just like a way for the admin to set a level for the players and then have them distribute their skill points and perks accordingly. Presets would work as well, but I just know that some players, myself included, have a good chance of being unhappy with all of the presets and their lack of customization.

If you had a dedicated server that was responsible for the quests, it might be possible. Whatever quest one person gets, so does the other. It would have to be able to handle 2 load areas at once though. Modding is out of the question, unless it's made specifically for the server AND installed on both clients.

As far as character /inventory/levels, maybe treat the "connected" players as NPCs. All the NPCs have the same abilities you do, even the draugr get shouts, so making them like "puppets" might be feasible.

I wouold be perfectly happy with LAN co op, similar to what is available in saints row, where the second player has access to his own character, but acts solely as an agent of the first player, basically like an intelligent and custom companion. The LAN function could be used over the Internet via hamachi. The host player could be the server, With the second player being a client of the first player. Maybe interoperability between first and secon player would be similar to interactions with companions, with the ability to trade items and such. Maybe an existing server/client protocol could be adapted to suit the needs of a project like this.

I second this. I would gladly buy a coop dlc. Given the resurrection of the dead dragons, perhaps the quest to allow it would be a ritual to awaken and locate any other "dormant" dragon born.

I dont think its possible at this point for Skyrim, I think the game needs to be mor eor less made with some kind of online functionality/co-op in mind.

I really hope Bethesda does this for the next TES. im not talking MMo or the like, but in the modern days many people like the community/social aspects of games, being interactive with others.

Consider something like Diablo, 2-4 people can seamingless join each other in a game, and explore together, with the content scaling based on the involved people. PvP is not something I would consider critical, just being able to explore and have fun with a few of your friends.

I expect mods to be the main issue, so something needs to be done there. however Todd has said they are looking into how mods can be ported to consoles, but that security issues are the main setback.

I really hope some online component manifests itself in the next TES game, it would take this series to the next level

Convince Bethesda to release the source code and this will be done (not going to happen just like multi-player in Skyrim).

Nope, it was online in the few Oblivion mods.

I'd like a link to such a mod, as a person who followed Oblivion modding from it's release day till Skyrim's release day, I'd be very surprised if this existed without my knowing about it (and I don't know about it). I've seen a handful of same-box coop mods, which means that through keypress-attached scripting "player 2" manages a companion character. There were always huge drawbacks to this as the controls were limited and the camera followed only the real PC character, which made keeping track of the secondary character a pain.

Here's one of them: http://www.moddb.com/mods/obliviononline

I believe there was another, but I can't seem to get my search terms right at the moment. Personally, I don't use online but it's still an interesting concept to think about due to the way that it would need to be done.
