I must say that Bethesda did an amazing job at the appearanc

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:35 pm

When Skyrim was announched, I was afraid that they might become one of those more beautifull kind of elves.

But the dark elves (for example) have a really rough appearance. It gives dark elves like my female assasin alot of personality.

What do you think about the appearance of the elves in skyrim?

Except for the chins. Those chins make me cringe every time I see them.

Other than that, I do like how the Elves turned out.

I agree with OP that the dark elves really look good in Skyrim especially for a female assassin.
I had hoped for a more traditional beautiful elf look in the Altmers tho, instead of the jaundiced look they have.
Still, they are much better done now in Skyrim then in Oblivion.

I also like how alien the elves look, in ob they were just weirdly colored. They almost could have made the eybrows and chins less pronounced, but i'm just glad they made them different

As someone who only plays Dunmer I gotta say I really love the look of the elves in TES. It took some getting used to in Skyrim tho.
I'm very happy with how Bethesda handled them. They look much more alien and badass and not just a 'really tall human with pointy ears'.

Hell all the races in Skyrim (and TES in general) are amazing. c:

I second that. I think all of the races look amazing. That's the main reason why I have so many characters lol I love just seeing what I can make.

The mer designs were above and beyond my expectation, and I LOVE it! In fact, all the race designs were top notch :)

The elves look absolutely HORRIBLE and I hate them. Absolute garbage. All the races look bad in character creation except for the Argonians, Kahjit, and female nords. I don't understand why in the world anyone would want to have ugly, hideous, goblin-like elves in elder scrolls. In every other book, movie, and game elves have ranged from decent looking to beautiful. They tend to be attractive looking. I think your artistic standards are very low or you're just a big fan of elder scrolls if you think Bethesda did a good job on their elves. And by the way, the previous elder scroll games had really awful graphics and artwork. I'll never buy them for that reason.

Thats because TES is "Not Every Other Book/Movie/Game" and it has its own unique interpretation of how elves should look like.
Thats what makes it that much special.

In addition, did you know that
Spoiler
Orcs, Dwarves and Falmers
in TES are elves too?

the high elves were described as beautiful in morrowind i think, Although they are like 300 years old...so maybe they just continue getting older and uglier while the beautiful elves chill on summerset. And the dunmer are teh "cursed folk", i think that finally translated over well. And frankly the bosmer look just as creepy as a forest cannibles should.

You're right. TES should concede to the stereotype and not try to do anything interesting nor create it's own identity.

Lord knows we need more Tolkien inspired fantasy!

Well, then maybe it became time a game had elves who were more...unique? I guess that is how you could say it.

I kind of like the appearance of elves in this game too. In fact most or all of the NPCs look good.

In Oblivion elves were pretty much indistinguishable from humans, except for the pointy ears, some skin coloration, and size differences.

It's about time Bethesda made decent character models. They knocked them out the park with Skyrim I think. All the races look right.

The only thing I'd like for beth to tweak is to make the bretons look more...merish. They still seem too indistinguishable from Imperials.

Whoa, Killionaire... take a deep breath, maybe have a refreshing beverage or something. We're talking character models in one game. Other games have their own character models. And if you can't post without flaming everyone else in a thread simply because your personal tastes differ, then I suggest you don't post, ok? Find a thread that does interest you, although it seems, given your remarks, that you are not an ES fan.

I think all the races look great. Though I agree Breton and Imperial are pretty close.

SO much better than Oblivion's cartoon drawn character blobs. :P

I think the elves in Skyrim look uglier than a mule's butt. But that appears to be what people want these days. I guess I am just an old stick in the mud, since I prefer my elves to possess unearthly beauty and grace instead.

I think it's more that people are tired of the literally hundreds of iterations of the same old D&D/Lord of the Rings elves, wood elves, moon elves, sun elves, deep elves the list goes on and on and they all basically look just like regular pretty humans with pointy ears and a skintone shift.

The only thing I'd like for beth to tweak is to make the bretons look more...merish. They still seem too indistinguishable from Imperials.

This is a very very good point!

Exactly, couldn't agree with you more.

I actually like the chins ^_^ I think it makes the Altmer look even more stuck up, which is perfect.

Great topic, and I love them, in fact I wish they'd take it even further and make them more alien looking. To really seperate them from men, and so it becomes even more apparent they're two blindingly different races with different origins.
