ESPECIALLY for the men.

Finally someone that understands me! Where do you live? I want to move to your town.
Everytime i go out during the summer here in northern Sweden people just look at me in the strangest way.
I want to be myself! I want to be able to go around town with my male chainmail bikini.
People nowadays are just so narrowminded. I love the breeze when it swoooshes underneath me.

They're barbarians, they're used to it.

All of them.

But seriously, I've always wondered what the deal is with the total disregard for the temperature and/or weather regarding clothing options. My gf and I were talking about how if someone went swimming in iceberg-filled waters, hopped out after a while, and continued to jog around a snowy wasteland IRL, that person would be dead. Very dead. And possibly frozen solid. And while the notion of someone climbing about in chainmail bikinis, regardless of gender, if fun, ultimately, it's a little unbelievable. I was thinking that something a little like hardcoe mode for Fallout: New Vegas would suit Skyrim well, sans radiation. Sub out the rad effects with temperature related issues and voila! You've got something a little more in line with reality.

You're talking about realism when there's dragons, trolls giants and elves in the game? C'mon!

I hate it when someone does this, They do not mean actual realism. What they mean is IMMERSION. I'm sure you can understand their frustration when they feel like they are really in the game, and they are at the top of the throat of the world! only to realize their companion has their knees showing and has no difficulty coping with the chill

Oh, I know, and believe me, I'm with you for the most part. I just think it would be a nice optional mode to throw in for dedicated RPers or folks who think the game is too hard. And I mostly lean towards the former. And the only reason I like realism in fantasy games is because good fantasy has elements of reality in them, lending them credibility. Believability, more importantly. The more I believe that the world this game is set in could be real, the more I thoroughly enjoy the more fantastical elements that make it as awesome as it is. If the game developers tell me that I'll freeze to death by swimming in the bitter northern sea, or get hypothermia if I don't wear warm clothing/armor on a high mountain, I can believe it when they make dragons, trolls, ice wraiths and draugr exist in the same game world. It seems a little paradoxical, but it works for me. I know it doesn't work for everyone else, though, so that's why I thought it would be groovy to have a separate mode available, instead of baking it into the vanilla game as a requirement.

I think Symphony meant that sarcastically. If not, I'm with you 100% on that. Either way, actually, I agree with your differentiation of "realism" and "immersion". That's really what I'm going for in any RPG, and that's what I was making my case for in my previous post.

That's not exactly what he meant by "realism". In TES universe, dragons and giants exist. But only Nords are resistant to cold. That is stated in both the game itself, and in the lore. Is it realistic for a skilled warrior to beable to kill a dragon? With magic potions that instantly cure injuries, and weapons made from materials stronger than steel, yes! Is it realistic to survive in below zero water in a loincloth? Not at all. (Except for the Nords.)

Oh wait till the modders get a hold of the CK. Than you will see tons of skimpy and no clothing mods.

But in a world where anyone can cast basic spells, anything is possible.

The reason being that only some people would enjoy sifting through inventories to choose apropriate garb. How will you enforce restrictions? Allowing health to be affected by illogical behavior results in complaints due to inconvenience. Market research has shown that your preference places you in a minority so the extra cost isnt justified.

You don't have to stop at clothing you could do eating, sleeping, excersize, relationships in a detailed maner, perhaps a Yolof meets the Sims thing. In the future you will be able to dial all these preferences in and you will be in the game instead of watching it. When this happens and the game is infinitly customizable you will ask for randomization,... I am sure :)

You knew all this though, it was just fun to post wasnt it?

I love that the imperials' standard issue uniform is a miniskirt. In the coldest, most rugged landscape in Tamriel, professional soldiers are walking around in skorts. Well done Tullius, you strategic genius you.

My games have devolved from serious role play into me running around the Skyrim wilderness naked hunting elk with my bow and fighting enemies with my pick axe. Now that's serious role play!

I think running around in the freezing cold landscape in my undies alone should get me an achievement.

Naked Warrior Achievement *Defeat any enemy in nothing but your undies*

Daddy Bags Frostbite *Spend long enough out in the cold wilderness to gain frostbite of the daddy bags*

What are you talking about? I don't know about your place, but here in the North we got all of those.
Why, we all carry about spears and brynje (mail armour) in case of a troll attack.

it does really detract from the atmosphere of the grim up north when you see bandits leaning against an ice wall in a cave carved into a glacier wearing no shirt and a fur skirt.

i thought half the reason armor was merged was because the style of armor in the game was supposed to be furry warm coats thqt dont really separate or whatever? so why is it there armor with a fur tube top and skirt and why do imperials run around with no pants?!

all the guard armor is sleeveless ffs. its fine to have clothing options that dont look like thick fluffy coats, but virtually no attempt is made to make it look like people might possibly have some issue with the general lack of feeling in their limbs from sub-zero blizzards. the guard armor at least should look practical for the climate. this isnt temperate cyrodiil or muggy morrowind, you cant decide now of all times to throw in all these chainmail bikinis and sleeveless armors. the look of NPCs and the clothing options are completely counter to the environment they are in and it can be really jarring at times. its like going to the alik'r desert and finding bandits in leather parkas.
