So Zenimax basically threw an enormous amount of money to polish MMO features already existing in other MMO games?

He was referring to SWTOR :P

Contrary to popular belief, Blizzard innovated a heck of a lot with WoW.

I'm fully expecting Tamriel to be the size of 1 of the continents in WoW (Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor). Even it's the size of both, it will be a joke. It sure as hell isn't going to be anywhere near the scale as seen in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skirim especially when they keep saying "sections of all provinces" and "a little piece of each province" (as stated from the write up and the gameinformer video interview). And Cyrodiil sounds like it's going to be Wintergrasp all over again, and for those that don't know, before Blizzard forced people to queue to actually be able to take part in the battle, it was a unbelievable laggy pos. It was also one of the big highlights for Wotlk as well and if Blizzard couldn't get it right with their own engine, I have very little hope in Zenimax Online pulling it off with Hero Engine.

Also is pretty funny seeing them talk about Hero Engine as a modern engine. And the claims that Morrowind modded looks better then the screens is 100% true, the game looks incredible now.

A 10 year old modded game vs this

Pathetic.

hero engine supports more players on screen than the older engines, so lag issues shouldn't be as big a problem in the world pvp. also keep in mind that mmo's are inherently designed to run on alot of rigs, even older ones, to increase the number of people who can play. so comparing morrowind with every texture and resolution mod doesn't prove anything. of course they could have made the game more realistic and with more polygons and effects, but the stylized graphics will increase the number of players playing, making it more enjoyable for people who actually want to play the mmo....like me :)

The article raised a lot of concerns for me. Unlike most other people (I presume), I dislike PVP and want no part of it. No aspersions on those who do, but I am a crafter. My question to those of you who know MMOs well is how does a peaceful type avoid being fodder for the PVPers who like to gank other players? Avoid the Imperial City, is that the idea? The worst gaming experience of my life was Aion and although I am a huge fan of Elder Scolls, I dont want to go there again where I was assaulted while harvesting. I would appreciate your thoughts, and I think the article posted by Darkstone was insightful and well considered.

after seeing Tera I'm not sure I would be satisfied with a lock on combat system anymore tbh

I mean if Tera has a more engaging combat system then why not TESO!!!

Im sure they will have PvE servers as well where the only PvP will be around Cyrodiil and yes avoiding Cyrodiil would be the best idea if you don't wish to PvP.

"Nonetheless, writing off ESO as “just another MMO” or “WoW with daedra” is doing this ambitious project a grave disservice."

Extremely confident speech here.
We'll see if ESO lives up to his claims.

Anyway i feel the entire article reinforces the fact that other then making improvements on what other MMOs have already done,
ESO does nothing new to make it stand out from the crowd.

I don't feel like it's unduly confident, since (unlike us) the person who wrote that article has actually seen the current build of the game in action.

Thanks for your reply; makes me feel a bit better. Also, Gstaff's comment earlier that we need to take Game Informer's information with a grain of salt, as they have not seen the game at this point.

Did he say that?

The article made it sound as if they watched a developer play through a few specific scenarios.

That article was obviously wrote in reaction to the [censored]storm created by the first information on TES:O gameplay. It's writer isn't very clever though, building your article over TOR, WoW and Riften to say that TES:O is going to be original actually end up in showing what TES:O have that is already in these games (with sometimes some improvements). Im quite sure it will back fire.
Now, the exploration part was quite interesting. I really hope that we will still be able to play this game as a TES (exploring for the sake of exploring) and not a regular MMO (exploring to find good spots for farming xp/loot).
I like the power-up for the PvP as well, and I have high hopes for the "action" part of the combat.

Now, I still have a lot of concern, and Im still disapointed by the fact that they didn't go for real-time combat.

Also :

Some things, like player housing, aren’t making the transition to an MMO because of the constraints inherent to an online game

Tell me lies ! Tell me sweet little lies !

If Tera and Boobs and Soul lore were more interesting, I wouldn't even try TES:O...
Well not really, chainmail bikini and plate strings tend to scare me.

Ravenmyst, I don't think there is any need to worry as I am certain there will be PvE servers for people like us who don't like PvP, but still wants to experience the entire world without being assaulted while harvesting, questing or simply exploring the world. I for one will certainly be looking for a PvE server (preferably RP) and do not plan to delve into PvP at all.

Even though the graphics for Morrowind can be heavily modified, you can still "see through it". It does look like an old game.
So in my opinion the TESO screenie looks much better.

Not all, but almost all, graphics overhauls for Morrowind/Oblivion looked really "out of place", they didn't really fit in with the game. :/

I think you misunderstood.

Game Informer has seen the game. The http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1373386-new-article-on-ign/page__view__findpost__p__20767645 was in reference to an IGN article that went up. That IGN article was written based on information posted in the Game Informer article and on the Game Informer website.

So have you guys come to the realization this isn't the type of game most ES fans want? Or are you still in denial?

Lock-On target is not the opposite of engaging combat, though.

I'm sure that such a courteous and well thought-out question will immediately get attention from the developers. I imagine that the only reason they haven't responded yet is that they're too busy fighting over the keyboard for the chance to answer you.

Also, please stop speaking for ES fans. We're a varied bunch, and you weren't elected Grand Dictator for Life.

Yeah. If only they'd written some kind of article where they broke down, point by point, how the game will appeal to fans of a diverse array of other games, including how ESO will be meeting expectations or changing the current status quo.

If only.

Diverse array of other gamers? ALL of the points appealing to skyrim fans can be grouped together and called "exploration", which is naturally a part of EVERY open world game (MMO and non-MMO). Then they showed how they're trying to appeal to WoW, Rift, and TOR fans. Considering those 3 games are carbon copies of one-another, I think it's kind of a stretch to call that a diverse array of games.

Also, professing that your game will mostly appeal to WoW, Rift, and TOR fans, then saying that your game isn't "WoW with daedra" or "just another MMO" is ridiculous.
