Posted before, but cool article still. I just hope that by multiplayer they mean a co-op and not online play.

Eh, they said this before the game released, this is just IGN padding their daily article output.

That said, I'd rather they just fix what's out than do anything with DLC, frankly. There's tons of game, and a lot of it I can't even finish because of all the problems. Can you imagine just how bad this would be if they implemented multiplayer? I mean, programming games isn't simple to begin with, but as soon as you introduce any kind of multiplayer interaction or networking things get way, way more complicated. I don't think they could ever make it work.

That's what I thought...

He added that players shouldn't expect any multiplayer Skyrim releases in the future. While he wouldn't rule out the possibility entirely, he said that it isn't Bethesda's current goal.

"You can never say never to anything like that," Hoaward said, "but it's not what our focus is. This type of game is where our hearts are, what we get excited about, and that's what we want to focus on. We don't want to lose that focus and we never want to sacrifice anything in the single-player game just to have it be multiplayer."

It sounds more like 'We MAY consider it far in the future, but that isn't what we're thinking of right now'

Why would the ability to play coop be such a detriment?

As long as the game scaled appropriately for the additional player, what is the problem?

Also IGN are morons and nothing they write in any context should be taken seriously.

Adding any kind of multiplayer to TES would be a huge mistake.

I'm so glad that this is just a misleading topic title. The idea of ES with multiplayer sends a shiver of fear and disgust down my spine.

As for the exclusive 30 day thing, well that's politics for you. Luckily for me I'm a 360 user so I don't get badly ported games and late DLC.

Nothing. At first. Until it opens the floodgates for something MUCH worse:

TES 6 streamlined to appeal to the most casual MMOG player.

Multiplayer would never happen, and if it did it would be just a bunch of people with alch/smithing/enchanting running around dominating or making your "coop" partner useless unless he had the same skills maxed.

What? Why Xbox Live exclusive for 30 days? Psh, if that's their attitude, maybe I just look for player made mods and shun their DLCs. I'm a PC gamer, always have been, always will be. I don't like them turning their back on their roots! Skyrim was clearly developed for console first, then ported to PC. It's all over the menues and the way you use them. I LOVE Skyrim and I've been a TES and Bethseda fan for many, many years, but this is rather disappointing.

Completely agree, Multiplayer/Co-op would be the death of the series and IGN shouldn't be taken seriously.

"Previously, Microsoft announced that the first two DLC packs for Skyrim would be exclusive to Xbox Live for 30 days. It's not known if the timed exclusive will apply to DLC beyond that"

Glad I play on Xbox.

Because it would be a gigantic undertaking, meaning less development resources spent on adding stuff which TES fans have come to expect from DLC.
