New interview with Nick Konkle

I wouldn't call it hype. Hype is advertisemant and buzzwords that they initiate with audiences unaware of the product. This was an interview they were asked to do. Yeah it's good advertisemant but majorly the number of people aware of the interviews are pretty low. Only the people scrutinizing the game very closely see it, and therefore not hype.

I caution everyone to hold back scrutiny based on past experiences. What past mmo's have done or are currently doing shouldn't be held against this game. At the same time I wouldn't say it's irrelevant either. We know what an abysmal failure this game could be, based on our past experiences. But they've yet to make those mistakes as of yet. If they can be consistent and clear with their intention and design choices then they can keep alot of customers happy. I am sure they will stumble, and go back on promises here and there do to development concerns and setbacks. But until we catch them in a lie we can't assume everything they say is a lie. Whether you can take their words at face value though is a choice of the individual.

People said the same thing about Swtor, that the devs were telling the truth and that is was going to be a great game, look at what happened. When the devs try and say too much stuff, and people actually believe them, they are going to be disappointed when the devs are not able to hold to what they said they were going to do. Having a decent amount of caution and taking everything the devs say with a grain of salt is the best thing.

Taking everything said with a grain of salt is just being smart. However, that doesn't make everything the devs say hype. The fact that the interview is littered with "I think", "I feel" indicating his opinion rather making it seem like it is a universal fact that such things will be true. Then there is his admittance that it is possible plans and things will change. Both those types of things are not found in most hype interviews.

Trion Worlds delivered, still does. I actually believe its the way of the future, less content at launch but faster pace after launch.
