"New Jersey Bans Smiling in Driver's License Photos"

Post » Fri Sep 21, 2012 5:21 pm

Going to the department of motor vehicles can put a frown on anyone's face, but for New Jersey residents, smiling is officially against the rules.
The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission has cracked down on drivers smiling in their driver's license photos because their smiles could interfere with new http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/video/fbi-facial-recognition-software-street-cameras-crime-17197593.

Though I do not drive yet and hence I don't have a license but I do have a California ID which other than it being 2 years old, I do happen to be smiling in the picture. I know this is NJ but it is not far fetched for this to happen in any other state if that one state does carry out a similar law.

Aside from all that, all this for facial recognition software...

EDIT: For the record, I dont care about the law itself, I only am concern about it being put against you for false readings and such on the facial software thingy...

Thoughts?

You can't smile showing teeth over here in Indiana, but they let you do a little smile. It helps make your photo not look like a mugshot, but not by much. I don't much care, to be perfectly honest.

I didn't know it was possible to have a Driver's License photo that didn't look like a mugshot.

We've never been allowed to smile on our driver's license here in Norway. I still managed to look sixy though.

Glad I dont live in Jersey. I just got my new license on turning 21 and it turned out to be a good photo with me smiling. My old photo looked like a mug shot.

Yea but it seems like that would only go so far if they tried you for a crime based on facial recognition if it was an error.

We have to take the pictures ourselves in photo booths located at the local station where you get your license. :hubbahubba:

You get to take your own pistures? Well that would explain how it was possible to get your photo even half way decent.

Yep, it's pretty nice. You are only limited to a few photos though, before you have to accept the one you're happy with and leave the booth. Since I'm a genius though, I left the booth and went right back in to give it a second go, completely disregarding the queue. It's quite difficult making the picture decent, even when you're the one taking it. :hehe:

No smiling in any government documents here in Canada, or perhaps it's just Ontario.

lets just say no one would stop a foreign country from starting their invasion in NJ. We'd wait til it was wiped out then start the counter-offensive. :P
