New Joystiq Dawnguard review

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 9:25 pm

...it was only twenty bucks.

It really felt like an 800ms DLC to me. One of the better ones like Point Lookout. If it was 800 points that would've been a better pricing imo.

You have to remember how these DLCs work though, 20 bucks is 1/3 the price of the original game and offers perhaps 3% the content of the original game. In this case the content has offered some new ways to play the game which is more welcome than pointless additional space to run around in, but for those who aren't that impressed with vampires it's a little bit lame.

You obviously have put no thought whatsoever into what I have stated.

People pay more than need be for some forms of entertainment. And that is true is many ways.

But, paying 5-10 dollars for Skyrim and 1 dollar for Dawnguard is understating it.

People have put 100+ into Skyrim, if not more and will continue to do so. In no way is the entertainment equal to 5-10 dollars. More so with the amount of work and manpower put into these games.

If I am so blind to what you are trying to say, enlighten me.

Edit: DLC being worth 20 or 10 bucks is the point here anyways.

Yes. I'm not saying "rawr, dlc good, y u no like?" I can totally understand how those not totally thrilled by the subject matter would feel disappointed. It would be nice for the next dlc to have a broader appeal.

To me it was worth 20 dollars, but with what you say I understand how it could have been better as 10 dollars. I too hope the next dlc gives more for everyone.

Here's how I look at it. Movie tickets cost ten bucks a pop here. For twenty dollars, then, you get 2 tickets and usually a maximum of 5 toal hours of entertainment.

Skyrim gave me 20+ hours, at least. So for me, it was worth it.

I think it has more to do with the fact that they increased the price, but not the amount of content we got.
More importantly, people like myself don't care so much about 10 bucks, but DO wonder what the HELL they've been doing the past 7 months....

Exactly! Yeah the DLC should have been less money but the real issue is what where they doing in the past seven months?! If it takes them seven months to complete this little of a DLC how long will we be waiting for the "Expansion" ones?

That's the weird thing.
The FO DLCs were completed in 3-4 months time and arguably provide the same level of content.

Shivering Isles expansion took a full year to develop, and the Morrowind expansions took about 6-7 months each.
Skyrim had the largest development team of them all.

Did they like hire 200 extra rock designers so that we could have top-notch boulders and rocks in our game, but forget to hire a single writer?

EDIT: Actually no, they couldn't've hired only graphic designers because Dawnguard has these ugly-ass cone-shaped bone piles with shiny skulls on them (bottom left): http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v174/mr.people/dembonez.png

Haha I agree. Bethesda better get to work and make some more "expansion like DLC's" that they have been talking about because DG is not one of them.

It just makes zero sense. It's like they took 4 months vacation time and spent 3 months on the actual DLC itself.

On that note, I never actually got around to playing either Morrowind expansion. How long were they compared to Dawnguard? (since those had an equivalent development time)

I think I get my moneys worth if i get 1 hour per dollar.. But I still think the game should have been 10 bucks like Fallout DLC...

All forms of entertainment are overpriced, and the DLC should only be worth about 1 dollar and the game disc being worth 10 maximum, and probably around 5. Of course, as human beings, we love to be entertained. We are willing to pay 6-10x the amount that things are worth for amusemant,

5 dollars for a game?! 1 dollar for DLC?! That is madness. It would barely be worth it for the Game Developers. At these prices developing games would just have to be a hobby for Devs.

It would not be worth it.
