New Preview 3 driver fixed my ATI issues

Post » Tue May 15, 2012 11:25 am

Hello. I just downloaded and installed the new ATI drivers (released Oct. 17), and now, without any special config files or setting, the game runs really well. Before it was very slow/jerky/unplayable. I have a Sapphire Raedon HD 6950.

I found the driver location on this thread: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2182813

(Also, I don't know if it makes a difference, but after I first uninstalled the old driver I also deleted the C:\ATI directory and rebooted before installing the new one)

I think this is where we say "Your Mileage May Vary," especially when someone in that thread said it didn't improve anything for him. But it way fixed my problems.

What drivers were you using before? I don't exactly trust that link.

I was using 11.10 Preview 2.

I'm not sure why you don't trust the link; it's from ati.com.

Awesome. I had my game running great before but now I got my crossfire going and everything forced to max except for AA which is set to application and everything is absolute butter. Not so much as a fart or hiccup in the animations and a constant 60FPS. Now when the game patch is released and the textures are improved I am going to blow through it on Nightmare!

PUMPED!

Seems like it to me. It updated my AMD and now Crossfire works with Rage. Huge difference with the gameplay.

It worked for me some what, the textures take longer to load when I turn from side to side, so I put back my config file and then its fine again.

Didn't work for me, http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/576685179537694014/BE61DF25E96D7619B3F0B8AEF8ACDD0E079BB25E/. I didn't run Driver Sweeper though so I'll have to try that tomorrow.

Hrm.. what are your specs and did you use the no argue config tool posted in the forums here? Also, what Catalyst settings are you using?

SAVIOUR.

unbelievable. Just solved every thing... 99%, i'm still facing a persistent crash when i open a certain door but graphicaly it's 101%. No glitches, no misplaced textures... no tearing, no poping.

AMD 4x 3.0
4gb ddr3
Radeon 4870HD

My experience until now:
- no rageconfig.cfg was necessary.
- just installed over the old driver brutally.
- +jobs_numThreads 0 is more necessary than ever
- triple buffering no longer necessary.
- game is crashing more than ever. More you set the graphics hi, more it crashes. Some doors i just can open if Texture Cache is set "low" before the game starts. During the game, changing this option results in crash.
- if texture cache is set large, you got ZERO poping, and if is set low, you still have some little popping but much better than before.

thank you!

Completely transformed the game on one of our computers from totally unplayable and crashy, to a joy to play smooth, and great looking....now it works on 2 out 3, trying it on the 3rd and most difficult computer now

i fixed up some crashes while loading deleting the videos folder, but now it can crash everywhere, any time... it's really crashing a lot due to performance. Maybe if i cut of AA and anisotropic filtering...

It's absolutely horrible for me using

Phenom II x3 720
4gb
HD 5850 1gb
running at 1080p
win 7 x64

I had the game in a playable state where I would get about 10 minutes of decent fps before a constant microstutter would kick in. I was using a custom config, set to use 2048 textures and maxppf 4.

Now, using the new driver I get absolutely terrible fps. I can't be getting more than 10-15 fps. I did a completely fresh driver install and removed my rage config. However, even with the config back in, the performance is still terrible.
I don't get the constant microstutter from 100% cpu usage, but my fps is just terrible now. That's with all graphic settings set to minimum in Rage, and the default CCC settings.

I'm going to try starting a new game, using safe mode to reset rage's settings, and fooling around with the config file. But I don't expect any miracles, so I'll probably revert back to the 11.10 prev 2 to try to finish the game.

Sigh. If skyrim implements megatexture technology at all I'll have to not buy it. I can tell that Rage is a genuinely fun game, but nothing's worth putting up with all of this crap.

It worked for me, no more custom config or jobThreads 0 needed. No more 100% CPU usage AND I can finally use the Large texture cache again!!

Clearly there are various problems caused by multiple issues that people are experiencing.

Luckily, for some people, using this new driver is a great fix. For others it has no benefit.

At least this does help some people here, with minimal effort.

wauuuu it works 100% four me, I dont evan neead the +jobs_numThreads 0 comand. Be sure to uninstal your curent driver from add/remove softwere then instal this new one. With e 8400 cpu and ATI 5770 i get olmost constant 60 fps, no screen tearing, no texture corruption, almost no texture pop in.
