So in Bethesdas latest Facebook update it has links to videos. And the tone Mr. Avellone says and I quote 'When you enter the New Vegas strip, it looks very much like it did in the old world, and there's a very strong story reason WHY the person running New Vegas wants it to be that way...'

Am I the only one REALLY eager to try and delve into the Whos,Whats,and Whys?

Personally I'm suspicious it's

A. He wanted to be a ruler in his own right.
or possibly
B. Something sinister akin to what the Vault Experiments were.

Do any of you have any ideas?

i hated vault tec. i still dont understand why they would choose to run a social experiment during nuclesr war. did they think that the information they found would be of any use after america was turned to [censored] dust.

i also hate having to know that the awesome "vaultboy" is the mascot of an evil company

to my knowledge
the vault experiments were meant to test possible scenarios
on a spaceship in the case of a nuclear war
if Earth were no longer inhabitable and mankind had to leave the planet
the info was meant to be given to the government/enclave

I know man, when I first started Fallout (I started on F3) 'Oh Vault Tec is a cool guy, eh saves people from nuclear war and doesnt afraid of anything.' Then I found out later in the game and the older ones, Vault Tec are [censored]s.

That said, I HOPE New vegas isnt some intended to fail plan :cryvaultboy:

Reason B doesnt seem likely and reason A is too cliche. Obviously he is working with Mankar Cameron to open oblivions gates in New Vegas. :ahhh:

It all makes sense. New Vegas is a farming pen for food for the Daedra Mr House will use to rule the Mojave.

I remember hearing something about a Pre-War business deal between House and the Chinese. He knew the war was coming, and he made sure Vegas would survive, then he froze himself with the plans to rule over the post apocalyptic wastes.

I have zero sources, except for the few interviews with Chris that mention the plot reason like the other dude said for why its intact. But I do remember reading something about the business deal.

Also this from his page on the FAllout Wiki "Mr. House was born and lived before the Great War. Before the Great War commenced, he was somewhat of an expert in the field of cryogenic science and robotics. He supposedly froze himself and waited in stasis for a long amount of time (which is the reason he's over 200 years old) until he was woken up and emerged into a city that was falling apart. He is an elusive man, and also plays a big part in why New Vegas was not directly hit by the nuclear devastation. "

Please i spent a hour "hunting" a raider down using a chinese pistol. Also i wouldn't be visiting the forum for like two weeks when the game comes out. Can't let the idiots spoil my New Vegas buzz.

Yeah, I'm hopy he'll be a mix of the genius the vault claims him to be, mixed with a Pre-War Dean Martin suave look to his appearance. I hope it is just him wanting to run his own little world and not something dark, cause I really dont want to have to eat happy pills while playing New Vegas :laugh:

He probably wants to create his own world. Play King.

House is from before the war, so he may have simply wanted Vegas to go back to the way it was before he froze himself for a couple of centuries. If he's from Vegas (which seems likely to me) I don't think it'd be that far fetched for him to want to feel closer to home.

Hey! Vault-Tec isn't evil. The information they wanted was meant to help rebuild after the [censored] dusting. They did end up saving a chunk of the world after all (Vault Dweller/Chosen One wouldn't exist without the vaults and they did basically create the NCR, largest civilization in the post-war world).

I personally was quite surprised when the President in Fo3 turned out to be a computer - I thought it was a very neat touch that lent itself to great story development. One would not have suspected it very easily before seeing it for the first time, and in that case the surprise was Good.

Given that Mr. House is one of the lead bad guys in New Vegas, why would it be a shock if they surprised us again in some way, shape or form? In fact I am Hoping that there are multiple conspiricies wrapped with lies and bound in subtly and intrigue. That will make the game much more interesting than a generic Boss bad guy with 10,000 hit points who breathes fire and presents nothing more than a battle scene!

House is a communist. His deal with china was to deliver post war US to them. When he froze him self it was only supposed to last a few months, but the signal from his Chinese handler to wake him up from never came. When he did wake up it was because of a fail safe.
Being awake again and with out his Chinese backers, house is trying carve out his own empire, using gambling instead of armed force, to gain control of the region. His goal being to own everything, and be the government in and of himself, thus making a state and the government owns everything.

I like Erebos post above me but i was kinda hoping he was a compulsive gambler with the bigger the stakes the better and who knows mabye youll have something worth betting Vegas for.

Side note: Mabye house's body couldnt become unfrozen because he stayed in the tube (or whatever) too long and now hes just a head in a jar on a robot and thats why no one ever sees him anymore
