New Weapons Suggestions

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 7:32 pm

These are some ideas I thought of for new weapon types to implement in Skyrim, meaning that there would be one for every different smithing class.

Dai-Katana
2-Handed, speed of 1H sword (1.0)
20% more damage than 1H sword of same material (fair enough, since you won't be using a shield)
Very costly to make/smith

Katana
1-Handed, attack speed of 1.2
Same damage as a sword of same material
Also very expensive to make, requiring rare metals to manufacture

Scimitar
1-Handed, attack speed of 1.0
More damage than 1H Swords (10% maybe) but shorter reach (due to curved blade)

Please leave a reply. Thanks

Dai-Katana seems kind of dumb.

Generally adding new weapons would be fine with me.

A few I would like to see included:
Shortsword
Katana(at least a Dai katana since there is already Blades swords)
Halberd and spears
Fist weapons
Staffs(Morrowind style blunt weapons)

In general adding more quantity to the weapon selection is a good thing. Even if Skyrim is Nord land there are immigrants and foreign influence so having many weaponstyles won't be against common sense.

Meh. No ninja stuff for me. I'd prefer new skins of already existing weapon types. I mean, 0 unique 2h swords??? Let's fill out the current weapon types before adding new ones.
PS I believe the ebony sword is still 1h, according to the skill trees. Fine with me. Not a katana fan.

Dai-katana = ebony blade/ebony greatswords
Katana = blades swords, ebony swords are basically in similar stlye
Scimitars = The Redguard soldiers already have them.

I'd personally like a flail (though it'd be a pain to animate), halberd or javelin. (They were in Fallout new vegas, so I don't see why not skyrim)

There was dai katana in oblivion and the katana is the blades sword and dragonsbane, the names dont change the fact that they are katana

I want 2h swords that are slightly shorter..has anyone ever weilded a 5-6 foot blade? A broadsword of that length must weigh 30lbs...i have a 3 foot blade that weighs 10lbs

I'd like to see new types of weapons like Khajit weapons or more Orc stuff. Oh yeah and spears as well. In real medival times they were far more common than swords.

no they where not, spears where more popular in the front lines of an army as you could impale horses / oncoming forces at a distence which may or may not get an advantage, however due to the nimble, quick and easy to use rival weapon, the sword, that was far more popular in any battle, generally if you have a spear and face a non briandead opponent with a sword chances are the spearmans dead, disarmed or pushed back and rendered useless. also spears where very rarely thrown they had archers for volleys at the rear of the forces for that.

fighting opponents on horseback? then yes spears where favoured but generally Swords where far more popular.

Personally i would like to see

Flail's
Spears
Fist Weapons or a buff to unarmed combat
Dragonbone Weapons
a real Longbow (the big ones not just something named it)
more maces

Spears, full size crossbows for dropping dragons (repeating or at least able to shot more than 1 arrow before a reload) and smaller crossbows for asassians. Also flails and staffs sound like an excellent idea.
Also it would be sweet if the made some "unique weapons" that werent associated with the daedra!
The only two I am really impressed with are Dawnbreaker and the Mace of Molag Bal (from a holy crap, that's looks awesome point of view.
The got uniques that kick ass in Chillrend and Wuuthrad. Just asking for some more;)
Also fix the dual wielding issue where you can see that second weapon when it's sheathed!
And some more blades swords!!
And, and, and all the other crap that I can't think of at the moment lol....
Sound like my daughter at Chtistmas lol
And can we make the whole sword/axe/mace group a bit different, I really don't care much for the speed in swings line that they give us anyway. I am talking to my old school Diablo fans here. Yeah you know what I am rambling about

Popular? I didn't say popular I said more common, because they were much cheaper to produce for the common footsoldier.

same the Jarl holds, surely they have some more unique priceless stuff or the thieves guild, there vaults are usless, fill them, trap them, make them guarded!

I'd like to see a new skill tree based on projectiles, with branches in 2-H thrown weapons, 1-H thrown weapons and self made bombs. New animations for throwing and bomb crafting.

There really isn't an "enchantable" regular version of the Ebony Blade (which is basically a unique 2H blades sword), putting one in the game would pass nicely for a Dai Katana.

And yes, technically there are "Blade Swords" and Scimitars in game, but they aren't craftable. I'm all for more craftable weapon types as the OP suggested.

Yes, like Derragorn said it, what I meant was that it would be good if you could smith those weapons, and I know there are already similar weapons in the vanilla game. But I think it would be good if Bethesda added more weapons of those types. There are several possible reasons why these swords could be in the game, since the whole story revolves around the dragons, which are heavily related with the Akavirii. And since the player comes from Cyrodiil, which has heavy influence from the Akavirii, it's possible that he's familiar with katana-style swords. Anyways spears are also very cool, and were used a lot by the Vikings. Gilded, decorated weapons could also add to the variety of the game

Flail would be really cool.
Dragon bone weapons could also be cool.
I like thrown weapons as well. Bombs/explosives. Maybe the ability to gather and set down oil, instead of just having it randomly placed for you. Couple this with fire arrows, which were in that developer video, could be a whole new class.

i would like to see more stealthy weapons like throwing knives and stuff like that. also why not dragon weapons and light dragon armor or something.

oh and you should be able to use weapons on horse back kind of pointless to have a horse if you just have to get off of it every 30 seconds to attack something

Skyrim's first DLC will add crossbows. It's pretty much confirmed (source: poking around the update.bsa file added by 1.5.26 patch). Check my post in http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1331322-unofficial-skyrim-dlc-discussion-thread-8/page__st__150dlc discussion) if you want details.
