New Years Resolution

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 12:01 am

New years resolutions? No way, man! 2012's a leap year. That means you have one extra day to prevent yourself from doing something you really want to do. Too much of a hassle and annoyance that I don't need.

Can't remember what my goals for this year were (don't really go for resolutions normally), but next year I aim to sort out some long term relationship issues and to be more responsible with my money.

My new years resolution, hmm.

Probably going to train/work out a lot more, get ready for soccer and the Coast Guard if that's where I decide to go with my life.

I don't think I set a resolution for last year. This year I've really been pondering some things I want to improve/accomplish. Some of the less personal goals I've set include:

-Gain 15 pounds (in muscle, I'm very thin)
-Be able to climb a V8 Bouldering route (that has much to do with the gaining weight- I have good technique, but not a lot of strength[I'm currently able to climb a V4]).
-Get through heart surgery successfully (again has to do with my other goals- not serious surgery, but it'll likely lay me out for a bit)
-Go camping/climbing in Bishop, CA.
-Learn how to lead-climb.
-Get a full-time job.
-Get a girlfriend.
-Make a documentary. (I have experience making short videos [mostly longboarding videos] and with a lot of video editing, so I'm hoping to expand that skill).
-Take a photo every day.
-Start a blog/journal/something like that.

Everything else is has a more spiritual/religious aspect, so I'll leave those out.

1)Take up the working/revising by a few notches so I get good AS results in the summer
2)Fill out a bit-rather too skinny
3)Get a part time job
4)Push my band and the music to get more gigs in this year
5)Start driving lessons-
Haven't even filled out the forms for a provisional licence yet. Darn forms

Well I failed my last resolution pretty hard. I guess saving up $20,000 in a year doesn't work when you lose your job halfway through the year.

This year will probably be something along the lines of "don't run out of money while attending college".

My new years resolution is:

To not make a new years resolution.

It's the same one I've made every year. I'm proud of myself because it's the only one I end up keeping.

I've stopped making them many years ago after realizing that most of the time they were forgotten about within the first month or so of the new year. They are pointless IMO. It's better to change what you want today, rather than wait for the new year to fix what can be fixed in the here and now.

This.

I don't think anyone actually keeps them. And if you want a change, do it now.

I dont. I'm sorta of the opinion that resolutions are crap to make people feel better about what didn't get done the previous year.

Actually, by making it in the first place, you instantly failed at keeping it. :P

So did I! :) But I am about to break it :(

:D

Mine will be to learn something new! A new hobby, basically. I'm curious about animation and have tried a bit of 2D/stopmotion but never got far. Maybe I'll grab Blender and some tutorials and get stuck on that.
Or something completely different. Ideas? :P
Also, to progress in photography, including regular updates on my new photography blog and learning all there is to know about my DSLR.
Thirdly to keep trying getting part-time work and/or get a summer job to get more money in my savings for after graduating in 2013.

I never make New Years resolutions, but this year I am. I am going to find a companion. Boyfriend sounds stupid at my age, so I'll just say companion. I refuse to be alone another year. hmmpphhh.

To write even more. Right now, my publication history is:

Short Stories: 1

Novels: 0

Other: 0

So I hope to have at least five short stories (you can help me get to two, check out my signature links), on novel, and one of anything else by the end of the year. I'm pretty confident on the short stories, but as for the novel and other, we'll see.

I'm going to quit smoking.

That's commendable. Can be tough at first, I remember when I tried getting completely off of it. But you just gotta stick with it. I found jogging (or any cardio exercise, really) helped, because I could see progress the longer I didn't smoke. Maybe it was psychological, I don't know, but worth a shot. Good luck, bro.

Congratulations, I hope you succeed in your effort. I managed to quit 13 years ago now. The main thing for me was (most likely different for everyone) that I had to break what I have dubbed the hand to mouth thing. Think about it for a minute, every day of your life, on a regular schedule you reach in your pocket and grab your smokes. Pop a cigarette in your mouth and light...then the hand goes to the mouth again and again and again till it's gone. Rinse and repeat this process 20-30-40 times a day, every day for 1 year, 5 years or 20...that's the hardest part to give up. Getting the nicotine out of your system is easy, but breaking the mental aspect (the hand to mouth thing) is a real [censored], but worth it once you get used to doing other things with your hands besides smoking.

Thanks guys. I quit cigarettes a little over a year ago, and about three or four months ago started smoking cigars/cigarillos. I was drunk at a party, so a pretty stupid way to start. Luckily I've been able to resist cigarettes - provided I'm sober. It's not really a question of "will I quit", more like "will I get drunk and start smoking again down the line." Appreciate the support, may your resolutions turn into realities! :D
