New Years Resolution

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 3:05 pm

Hey everyone,

Well we have a thread like this every year, so I guess it's my turn to start it. Anyway, we have about a week, so if you haven't already, think up a resolution. If you already have, please share. :)

Don't forget to mention what you had in mind for the beginning of this year and if you actually followed up on/achieved it.

For me, I made a resolution to have a well built body and around 6% body fat percentage. While I can't say I've achieved that, there is definite progress, and I haven't given up, so I guess that's what important in the end.

How about you guys?

I am making myself a list of things to do before the year is over.

1. Get a bit more better body.

2. Get the first book in a series I have been plotting for more then two years written and edited.

3. Hit 500 subs on Youtube.

4. Obtain all my math credits so that I never have to look at the filthy thing again until College.

What I hate about making goals is how nice they sound. "This will be so easy, I just have to keep to it!" is followed the next day by, "Meh, Ill get it done tonight." which will then be followed by "Meh, tomorrow very early in the morning."

I've stopped making them many years ago after realizing that most of the time they were forgotten about within the first month or so of the new year. They are pointless IMO. It's better to change what you want today, rather than wait for the new year to fix what can be fixed in the here and now.

I didn't make one last year. I probably said I'm never going to drink again after the New Years' hangover but we've all said that at some point.

This new year my resolution is to get a new job. :)

Well yeah, but the point isn't to put the goal off until the new year, but to set a goal and give it a time frame in which to achieve it. A year is a good amount of time, enough to achieve even a major goal and it's easy to remember when it begins and ends so you don't have to struggle to remember the day you started working on it, and how long it's been since. I've learned that putting that kind of pressure on yourself actually helps. But I guess it's different for different people...

I decided last year to give up alcohol totally. When I go out I like driving to places, and alcohol never agreed with me anyway. I'm pleased to say I succeeded! My last alcoholic drink was new years eve 2010. I might carry this on into next year. I feel much better for it and have more money to spend on games!

My resolution for next year is to try and give blood at some point, if the doctors give me the all clear to do so. (I have very thin blood and am borderline anaemic.). I just think that it would be such a positive thing to do, and I'd feel very proud of myself if I managed to do it without too much fuss.

Finish a fanfic, and get a job. And learn to drive.

This seems like a good NYR to make. I've always been delaying it.

I'm hoping to get up to 1920x1200 this year if I can find a large enough 16:10 screen.

Oh, and I should start eating healthier too. :P

When I saw this thread I thought it said New Years Revolution, and now I'm slightly dissapointed. Hmm Next year I want to work on getting a job so I can build a new computer.

I came close to making this years new years resolution, in fact, depending on how Wednesday goes, I may just barely be able to make it.

It'll probably just be an extension of my current one: further padding of my bank account.

The usual.

New job, less smoking. Really just new job.

Less gaming? I have gamer's guilt lately.

I havent delayed it, I turned 18 this year, then only recently found out how I actually give blood. (apparently they put notices up in the area, when they visit every few months, so I must wait).

I dont make NYRs, they are stupid, most fail, and I dont see why on a certin day I should try and change my life, I should be trying to change for the better by my own choice, not becuase its a damn new year.

Probably the most common resolution and also most commonly broken

I applaude you for achieving it though

... learn to drive.
You will never feel so free as being able to wake up one day and being able to think "you know what I fancy going "there" today" and being able to just get in your own car and doing it. Very worthwhile

I second this. Learning to drive was the best thing I ever did.

I swear, I was so close to typing a "V" instead of an "S". :(

i'm going to quit drinking soda and energy drinks, i quit drinking energy drinks a month ago, and i only drink a few liters of soda a week, so hopefully it will help my teeth and calorie intake

Don't know if it will get done but i also want to drop about 15-20 pounds and build up my body bit more

Same as the last few years - no booze or junk food in January to shift the pounds I'm currently gaming over Christmas.

And...that's about it. I don't normally make resolutions.

Never really made one before. I know I wouldn't stick to it. Since I've had such a horrible year this year. To make the next one better I am setting myself a few goals.

1. Begin to learn a martial art - properly. So many times I've started and given up with a month or so. I really want to stick this one out this time.
2. Pass my first year at University. A must really - I should be able to do this no sweat, but it's still a goal.
3. Learn to drive? This one, I really want to achieve but like it has been so far - it's not easy to find the money or time to do so. So this might have to wait.

Oh, and to make some decent progress on the novel I've started. Just a hobby really.

Good luck to everyone else setting themselves goals. I hope you can achieve them! ^_^

1) Get a job

2) Be less of an idiot (Not going to last)

3) Get a car? (Unlikely)

4) Show people I care more (Ties in with 2 and also unlikely xD)
