Morrowind's systems was fine, but Oblivion just tried to 'clean' it up, if that makes sense. Oblivion's systems were okay, but some of Morrowind's could be borrowed. Skyrim's system was dumbed down but only to try and get newer players. Bethesda is not, in my opinion, dumbing it down more and more. They'll probably go back to a system more akin to Oblivion instead. It's not a pattern.
I will not be buying the next game if they go back to Oblivion's system. Skyrim is leaps and bounds better than Oblivion. But I did like the challenge in the journal required exploration that was used in quests and the realism in the politics of the world that Morrowind implemented. A game like this should require you to take accountability for your actions. Even if it forces you to reload.
