Now the Japanese PS3 Players are with us

Post » Sun May 20, 2012 8:58 am

I have visited the PS3 players' comments in Amazon (jp). I even dare not to tell ya the rating there.

I wonder if Gstaff/ Pete could read Japanese comments (I could understand 70% of those). But I can tell you one thing: it is exactly the same comments out of the sub forum.

Bethesda: Please take this chance to act in good deed, or you are facing angry consumer across the West America to the Far East.

(from what I know Japan is a loyal market, don't waste the chance of Skyrim !)

I am not intended to flame, on the contrary, I advise all of us the console players to show our long term support given on one ground: where producer is committed to keep his words.

Patch 1.4 needs to deliver in a big way. I hope bethesda understands how much of their reputation is riding on this one patch.

Even if 1.4 is not a cure all it must make a huge significant dent in the lag issue. Enough of a dent that people are led to believe bethesda does know what they're doing and that will build confidence in the possibility of a complete solution. Confidence can support patience. If I feel confident then I'm willing to wait knowing the game is in the right hands and not incompetent code monkeys.

Popular gaming sites, I assume some press agencies, fans........lots of people are watching and waiting and waiting and waiting.

Just had a look. It has a score of 2.3/5 out of 234 customer reviews, compared to the Xbox version which as 4.8/5 out of over 110 reviews.

The top review says after 46 hours gameplay the game became a "flip book" (probably a dodgy translation but I think we can guess what it means). A lot of very unhappy customers over there.

yes everything depends on the 1.4 patch as of now, trust me it will cost bethesda if this patch fails to solve the lag and not just 'improve performance'.

Pretty much. It's always been an uphill battle for western games to make a heavy presence in the Japanese video game charts. And considering Nintendo's speedy patch to fix a bug in Zelda this year, I'm sure they're stunned Skyrim's been in this state for over a month now.

Rough translation from some of the more popular JPN amazon reviews:

"The game was great when first played. Great atmosphere, strong sense of achievement when you kill an enemy. From around 20 hours play time, the symptoms started to appear.
At that time, save data about 5M long. I felt I was looking through a flip book."

"Too bad for the bug, a big problem in overseas development, issued a patch to mitigate them.
But the Japanese version does not have a patch released.
Also contacted the support, it seems they do not even know of the situation, yet in itself was said to issue a patch for the problem.
It's such a shame."

And how is an Amazon forum a reputable scource for gameplay information? Try the official bethesda Japan site and a translator software. Till then please stop posting any negative that just floats by on the media wind and blow it up to be a big statement about the game. It leads to false representations and statements.

Japanese gamers have no reason to lie and start a panic for funzees, if that's what you're insinuating.

I feel bad for both Bethesda and for all players. It's just bad for everyone. The game doesn't work - we customers suffer. Bethesda wants it do work, but apparently fail - bad reputation for Bethesda.

Ps3 is the dominant console on Japan by a huge margin. Beth is gonna lose the market if they can't fix this, japanese culture won't allow this to be forgotten as quickly as it will be in the states.

They definitely need to fix the game. Unfortunately the damage has already been done. Faith has been shattered. The game shouldn't have been released like that in the first place. Having said that, again, definitely does need to be fixed eventually if they want to save any face at all.

The biggest magazine in Japan gave this some 39/40....what the hell is going on?? is this some kind of joke?? how can the reviewers betray the consumer like this, bet they would have pummeled the game ruthlessly if it wasn't made by bethesda!!

Neither do EU or U.S. players. Yet, many many have blown things far out of proportion, even posted videos said to be from PS3 when they are from PC. Now why would any one want to do these things, but they have.

What the hell are you talking about. I saw your response in another thread stating that it isn't possible to record directly from your PS3 to your PC and get excellent quality. It is called a capture card.

I don't want to sound cynical but I'm glad the japanese are with us now and see that there is a problem with the software Bethesda has released.

A catpure card will NOT give an accurate image from PS3 in wich to judge the claims of those recording it. Nice try.
A capture card and a PC will alter the image. Not to mention the user can then alter it further to make there claim.

I wonder if these ps3 issues would've happend had skyrim been developed by a japanese company. The japanese, as I understand, are very serious about quality. Its more a part of their culture than ours imo.

I bet if it did happen to them someone would take the blame and willingly step down or openly apologize or other heads would roll immediately.

The guy whose idea it was take make the 3Ds, which hasn't been very successful, took all the blame and he did step down I think and apologized.

Over here its an oops mentality. Oops we released it with bugs.....deal with it. We'll get around to fixing it sometime. Nobody apologizes, nobody is fired, nobody takes the blame, nobody steps down.
