nvde Mods

Post » Thu May 17, 2012 12:09 am

So I was looking around on ign today and came across an article about mods for Skyrim being handled through steam. You will browse and install from within steam which is cool and will make it easier for people who've never installed and used mods before. Anyway, I click a link they have to Skyrim mods that exist already on fileplanet. One of the categories is nvde and (being a guy) I clicked it, curious to see some tiny thumbnail of a naked nord girl. When you click it there's all these variations of nvde female mods you can install. Not really my thing to install but I have no problem with it.

Then I thought about it. It says these mods replace the textures on all female characters thus removing their underwear and you see these nvde textures some dude designed instead. When do you ever see any character in their underwear? When they're dead... and you've stripped them of their clothing. So that is the aim of these mods? So you can kill women, strip them naked and ogle them? Dead girls? That's kinda sick don't you think?

So don't download it then, mods are OPTIONAL.

I didn't download it. Which is why I'm curious. Am I right? The aim of these seemingly very popular mods is to kill females, strip them down and slash at their nvde body with your sword or pick their dead nvde bodies up and put them in awkward positions? I might install a topless barmaid mod, but I don't think that's what this stuff is...

I don't install nvde mods until there are ones for both men and women. So I'm an equal opportunity pervert I guess.

I won't bother to explain why I actually like these mods to you though.

As with everything, if you don't like something, don't download it/look at it.

In Oblivion, a lot of people installed the nvde mods simply because they were a better replacement than the chunky burlap underwear the characters wore. But yes, it's totally weird when you only ever see anyone naked if they're also dead and you stole their clothes. Nevertheless I still use the nvde mod because I'm used to seeing naked people instead of people in giant burlap diapers (because of using such mods in Oblivion).

Also, there is one thing that is made immensely better by having it. There are actually some NPCs that will bathe in the hotsprings in the game. So instead of burlap underwear wearing freaks sitting in the dirt, you have skinny-dippers. Awesome.

I don't really go in for nvde mods, but it does worry me somewhat that some people think it's ok to run around stabbing NPCs or setting them on fire but a hint of show of flesh is somehow more dangerous. Confuses me greatly.

In the Fallout games, modders made whole different models that replaced the entire (mostly female) bodies, not just the textures. Many, many mods that added new armor and clothing were designed specifically for these replacement bodies. While most of them were nvde, the modders usually included versions that had underwear as well. It's strictly a matter of personal preference.

At any rate, it's very unlikely that Steam will allow anyone to post nvde mods to their site.

ETA: when a good quality body replacer becomes available for Skyrim, I'm going to download it and use it myself. The vanilla body in this game is kind of lacking, IMO. The hands and feet in particular are just plain fugly.

The nvde textures work well for use in other mods. In morrowind and oblivion, there were mods that added strip clubs, brothels etc. The nvde textures pair with those types of mods.

The quests give you motivation to kill your enemies. What gives you motivation to want to see female dead characters...nvde?

I can understand the guy who mentioned the hot springs bathing, that would be hot.

One could argue that stripping characters to be naked in the first place is weird, not the fact that when you strip them, you can see their naughty bits. :P

nvde mods do have their place I guess. Some clothing options need a nvde base, or you end up seeing those weird undergarments where there should be cleavage or whatnot.

*Shrugs.* To each their own. Don't like it? Don't download it. If you do, then do.

I actually don't even usually loot armor, either. So I rarely see anyone naked in my game. Armor weighs way too much, there are usually more valuable things to grab.

And why is it any worse than stripping them to their underwear? Isn't that also a bit freaky? Or is it OK with you to strip a dead body of all its belongings and leave it in its underwear? If you have a problem with it, I suggest you don't play any games that have a system whereby you can loot bodies.

Is it much different poking a body in underwear with a sword than one without? Both seem fairly messed up. Especially since you just slit their throat with your sword, regardless of undergarment status. Where would you have the line drawn though?

Ummm...they're not really dead. They were never really living in the first place. They're a bunch of pixils on the screen.

Grow up.

As for....

You will browse and install from within steam which is cool

What's so damn cool about it?

and will make it easier for people who've never installed and used mods before.

Just how f'en stupid are these hypothetical people who can't follow along with the directions: "Place in your data folder"?

This isn't about "making it easier for people". In fact, it will make installation harder for all but the most bare-bones single plugin mods. It's about Bethesda maintaining complete control of their product at the expense of modding community.

Anyone who thinks this whole Steam thing is "really kinda cool" and thinks the January release date for the CS is "really kinda soon" is just...well, it's beyond me. I don't get it.

And people who think the revelation of skin on computer characters is "gross" are kinda prudish.

I would draw the line exactly where Bethesda did. You can take their armor off to use or sell, you have no need to take their underwear off once they're dead.

Then when the body replacers inevitably are released, download the ones with underwear. :)

There are always options.

There isn't any need to criticize people for their choices, however.

Congratulations? What was the point of this? I see lots of mods on Nexus I think are "odd". I simply don't use them. What's the point of telling everyone about it?

The main reason why it makes all females nvde is because we don't have the creation kit, so all the mods are just "make due for now" types that just edit surface textures. Of course there are a lot of people that want to make all females nvde, but for those that don't, there aren't any real options til we get the kit.
