Odd numbered years seem to be pretty meh video game wise : Othor Games

Seriously. I was thinking about how mediocre this year was for video games and my first thought was "This is the worst year in video games in a decade". Then, I started checking out past years, and a number of odd numbered years were pretty iffy too.

Anyone else pick up on that?

Hahaha, personal opinion is personal. This year was amazing, I'm simply flooded in games. I simply can't complete them all, only so much time! Now the old republic is svcking that away too.

This was the best year gaming has seen in a long time.

Battlefield 3 set industry standards in terms of graphics and audio, so we can expect new games to be stepping up their engine specifications.
Skyrim was absolutely amazing, even if the PC port was less than stellar.
Gears 3 was also great, Arkham City was great, Bastion was great, Saint's Row the Third was great, etc.

Are you going to be playing any of those games 5 years from now? Aside from maybe Skyrim, I highly doubt it.

I can't think of many games I'd play for 5 years.
Most have sequels every other year at least...

No, besides Skyrim, probably not, but I can't recall the last video game I did that to that was not an Elder Scrolls game.

I can't think of many games I'd play for 5 years.
Most have sequels every other year at least...

I'm not saying play the game for 5 years, but I'm saying a game you would keep and come back to and play through 5 years from now.

Yeah I know. I mean I wouldn't, asside from the TES games, due to the sequels coming out so frequently.
Just because a game is short - doesn't make it unenjoyable.

I wouldn't judge a game by it's replay value/length. I bought some games this year that I found amazing, but I doubt I'll care about some of them that much in 5 years. :tongue:

Just because I spent little time playing them (compared to games that last 100+ hours) doesn't mean they weren't worth buying.
I enjoyed many games this year because there were lots of good titles coming out, as many allerady stated.

I think this year was pretty good for games.

Deus Ex HR
Skyrim
Battlefield 3
Portal 2

all great games. I have to say this year was better than last in my opinion.

What came out last year that was any better than what came out this year?

Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, Peace Walker. Also, for myself at least, Megaman 10. Mmm... Megaman 10..... Love this game. Downloaded some DLC, set me off on another Megaman spree again. Going to have to play through the entire series again (except maybe Megaman 8).

Hmm, 3 out of those 4 were console exclusive (as in not on pc), so even if it was a good year for you, it wasn't for me..

That said, the criteria for what constitutes a good year aren't very clear to me, overall, I'm not complaining about this year at all.

Not my greatest year, but still not bad either. 2012, on the other hand, is gonna kill me. Nearly 10 games in Q1 alone that I'd like to pick up.

Only few gmes I gave a damn about this year, Bastion, BF3, DEHR and dark souls.

Next year will be better, KoA, Bioshock infinate for round febuary, then I wil see whats released later in the year. But this year has mostly been sequals an overhyped games, gears, MW3, AC revelations, skyrim, etc. Nothing really refreshing. I liked some of them, but they didnt feel any different to previous installments.
