You mention Diablo 2, but did you try Diablo 2 with mods like Median XL or Eastern Sun? Both overhaul offer high playability for single player mode.

I'll reply to your other suggestions later (got to go), but I don't think I can use mods because I play D2 online. I may be banned.

Suikoden II, V
FFVII
Parasite Eve
Thousand Arms
Grandia I, II, III
Skies of Arcadia

Zelda: Link to the Past.

You wont find Suikoden II cheap. V is an easy find.

Skies of Arcadia is apparently the second best RPG of all time(behind Chrono Tigger(>_>), and the greatest RPG on the Dreamcast(the original console it was made for).

Thousand Arms is sorta a date sim RPG.

Temple of Elemental Evil

Icewind Dale 1 and 2

Wasteland

The Witcher (it's 2007 so a bit new, but good nonetheless)

Deus Ex, obviously, and you should also try Vampire: the Masquerade - Redemption. Completely different from Bloodlines in almost every way (point and click combat, party based, etc) but really, really good. The voice acting may at first make you want to go on a berserker killing spree of carnage and destruction, but don't. You get used to it; hell I even came to like it eventually. :P

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizardry_8 if ya into old-school dungeon crawling team based RPG with modern graphic.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deus_ex for the best overall cyberpunk/action rpg. Pick up the http://thenamelessmod.com/editors_choice/ after playing Deus Ex 4 or 5 time as it is its own game.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverwinter_Nights_2 for an RPG based on Dungeons & Dragons / Forgotten Realms. If ya get Neverwinter Nights 2, get the expansion, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverwinter_Nights_2:_Mask_of_the_Betrayer; overall decent theme, choice and consequences, and decent character and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverwinter_Nights_2:_Storm_of_Zehir as it has that "JRPG" feel to it and being able to customize your party.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars:_Knights_of_the_Old_Republic 1 and 2 - RPG of Star Wars; great story many choices here and there. If you getting KotoR 2, try getting the Restoration content and play as it was intend by the good people of Obsidian.

You mention Diablo 2, but did you try Diablo 2 with mods like Median XL or Eastern Sun? Both overhaul offer high playability for single player mode.

I may get Wizardry 8. The rest I have already played. :) Thank you Qawsed.

Fallout Brotherhood of Steel: Tactics?

I've shied away from BoS!

Suikoden II, V
FFVII
Parasite Eve
Thousand Arms
Grandia I, II, III
Skies of Arcadia

Zelda: Link to the Past.

I'll need to check out Suikoden, Parasite Eve and Thousand Arms. The rest I've played. Thank you!

Temple of Elemental Evil

Icewind Dale 1 and 2

Wasteland

The Witcher (it's 2007 so a bit new, but good nonetheless)

ToEE and Icewind Dale I haven't played, good shout.

The Witcher 1 and 2 I've both played and loved.

And now for some embarrassment....I find Wasteland too old and confusing (even though I have played so many old games including Arena and Daggerfall [and I LOVE DF]).

Deus Ex, obviously, and you should also try Vampire: the Masquerade - Redemption. Completely different from Bloodlines in almost every way (point and click combat, party based, etc) but really, really good. Deus Ex - completed. Still need to try the new one.

Redemption I forgot about!

2007 isn't a bit new, it's like yesterday.

Yeah it is! :D

---

Thank you all. Feel free to continue posting games. At the top of my list right now are Povu's 2 mentions (DoD and Chtulu saves the world).

Bought Unepic, and now I'm still undecided between Dungeons of Dredmor and Cthulhu Saves the World.

Also, is there a way to save a topic as a text document? You could with the previous boards.

Icewind Dale (and to a slightly lesser extent IWD2) is great for going back to. Yes, its linear, but if you want a great, challenging dungeon crawl where you get to create all 6 characters (up to), in the wonderful 2nd ed D&D rules you can't go wrong with it. I find it much more re-playable than most RPGs because it doesn't require as much time investment. Its not got much story so if you just want to jump in and have a crawl without worrying about having a 5 hour slot of freetime (recommended for epics like BG and Planescape) you can.

Looking at my collection, can't see many not mentioned. Pool of Radiance maybe, not so good though and I avoid because the rumours it destroys your computer or something
Temple of Elemental Evil
Jade Empire (more combat based, still I thoroughly enjoyed my one and only playthrough)
KotOR 1 & 2
Divine Divinity (don't rate it myself, too repetative) and Beyond Divinity, which I have never tried

One escapes memory, I know I have it somewhere but its not on my shelf. Can anyone remember name of this: year, sometime between 2003-2007 I think. It was top down, you could play a Undead Warrior Guy, an Eygyptian Anubis type mechanical character, I think a Druid, a Mage girl IIRC, a Necromancer perhaps too, that rode a spider. Anyway, I enjoyed that too.

Haven't seen it mentioned yet, so I'll throw out the http://basiliskgames.com/eschalon-book-i series of games. Although they're fairly recent (first one released in 2007, second one in 2010, third one in progress), they're definitely old-school style RPGs and quite enjoyable.

Yes that was it!

I liked it, hack'n'slash all the way, which is fine with me, I like both story based RPGs and hack'n'slash ones. Its seems from the forum though there are some big problems with win 7 or vista and this game :nope:

Well, it is usually mentioned by a lot of people here, so at least it's worth a look.

I'm still deciding between Dungeons of Dredmor and Cthulhu Saves the World. I may end up buying both.

Right now I'm playing Unepic which I bought yesterday. Really fun game.

I'd say Dungeons of Dredmor has more value and depth. Cthulhu is fun for a playthrough, but Dredmor you can play over and over with different builds.

Also, is that new Age of Decadence ever coming out?

 In the last few weeks it's been beta tested by the AoD community. They find new bugs and they're fixed. Maybe by this summer we'll have a full demo on our hands.
