One word to describe you

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 10:53 pm

Ek praat a bietjie, ja. Ek verstaan dit meer as wat ek dit kan praat. Why does someone who lives in Wisconsin know how to speak the language?
It's where a lot of Dutch immigrants landed, 'en Afrikaans is een Nederfrankisch zijnde tale.'

Am I close?

"I talk a little, yes. I understand it more as what I know for/can use for talking?"

The proper translation would be, "I speak a little, yes. I understand it more than I am able to speak it."
The direct translation would be, "I talk a little, yes. I understand it more than what I can that speak."

Praat is almost identical with the Norwegian prat, which means talk. And ja is idententical to ja, which in Norwegian means yes. Meer is also almost identical to mer, which means more. Wat, with the lack of a H for what, in Norwegian being hva.

Am I close?

You were! I think that second sentence threw you, though.

It's where a lot of Dutch immigrants landed, 'en Afrikaans is een Nederfrankisch zijnde tale.'

"And Afrikaans is a changed Dutch language." Or something like that, yes? What's the direct translation of the above? I'm having trouble with "Nederfrankisch zijnde".You mean that Afrikaans is Dutch, just altered.

It is that, yeah, but it's also got Arabic, English, African and French mixed in.

[If you want to talk about this, let's move it to PM...]

This thread is a bit depressing with many people having only bad things to say about themselves. drunk, lonely, boring, horrible... :/ come on I'm sure you have good things to say about yourselves!

Here is a negative word to describe me: indecisive

and here is a positive word to make it even: kind (at least I think so  )

I'd be mad at that too.

But, I'm not mad. Just pointing out my phone double posted.

I've noticed I've been pointing a lot of stuff out lately. So, I'd like to change angry to pointy.

If you tense up all your muscles, can I hold you like a pointy stick and poke someone with you?

Yes, we would be a force not to be trifled with.

Quirky? People often tell me I'm quirky or weird, and I take it as a compliment. Honestly its not that I think I'm a horrible person, its that good people make me look horrible in comparison with their mass amounts of empathy :P.

From Websters:

Akward: The feeling of being inferior to fish, especially those that are Evil.

That definition made me laugh out loud, that's got to be the best definition ever.

That's why I put "ambivalent". Sometimes I'm positive, and sometimes I'm negative, about everything, or just some things... :)
