Only one Dragon in game?

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 1:17 pm

- Spoilers -

Hi there,

I think I got a strange problem or unlucky thing or so... I'm level 34 now, Warriormage. A friend of mine is that too, but he is level 28.

We are both at the same quest of the main story "Retrieve Horn of Jurgen Windcaller".

I fought one dragon so far, the one that spawns at the gates of Windlauf. I talked to him and he told me, that he defeted 17 dragons so far!?! How can this be? Am I just unlucky or something?

Are there random dragon spawns and if there are where do they spawn?

Thank you for comments and help
Wolves

btw. I got bluescreens while playing, that crash my whole PC.

Spoiler(?)
I think you might have to venture a bit more into the MQ. Could be wrong.

I'm level 21 now and have only killed 5 so far. Not that it bothers me, I would rather them be a rarity as it retains the omg factor that way.

I'm level 21 and I've probably killed 20-30 of them. Seriously I can see 2-3 flying around at any given time when I'm roaming the open tundra in the middle of the world. I've gone a good way into the main quest...at least until I ran into a bug that won't let a portion progress any further.

I'm also seeing different types now: dragons, named dragons, frost dragons, and blood dragons (oddly colored green haha).

Hmmm.... is there any way to "summon" a dragon? With screaming or something? I never see dragons.

lol, I have dragon souls to spare. It seems any time I walk out into an open plain I hear a dragon roar and chase it down. Those guys really don't want to fight me. Too much chasing, lol.

Earlier today I was semi-afk at the mages college and a dragon dropped down on top of me right outside the main hall. I was like, "you've gotta be kidding me."

Interesting... It seems that the appearance of dragons is linked to how far into your main quest line you are in maybe?

I'm also lvl 21 and have only killed 3 or 4 dragons. I'm also up to the same main quest as the OP 'Retrieve Horn of Jurgen Windcaller'.

They should start to appear randomly outside of quests after that. I've seen so many that it's getting a bit tiresome to be honest.

So must I start a new char or something if they refuse to spawn?

Haha never! The only thing I don't like is that their bones clutter up the courtyard of the College for me!

Find the word walls, there is always one by those(or at least I always had one) and it's not really that uncommon to see one flying around when I'm just walking around.. Not far into MQ at all with that character

I think you're on to something. Level 10 here and have not seen any dragons anywhere ... but just picked up the main quest again in Riverwood because I've learned a few shout words now.

I'm at the same MQ stage as you and I have plenty of dragons out and about, sometimes several in the same place. Either you've had terrible luck or something is indeed bugged, because there's no reason you shouldn't have plenty of them around. As far as I know they should start appearing pretty much everywhere as soon as you've killed the first one :S

I've seen several while walking around. Most of the time they fly around but don't attack very often. While killing a Mammoth i noticed one in the distance hanging around the ground and when i approached to watch he was bringing another Dragon back to life. When it came out of the hole it began to attack me and i was in the middle of nowhere lol. I tried but i couldn't fight it off since it seemed to be one of the stronger ones.

I ended up with my guy going around and around in circles and when i finally died my machine died with me. I'll be out of the adventure until my machine is fixed. YLOD struck me again. :verymad:

Do you have he sound turned off perhaps?
If it wasn't for the noise they make I probably would have missed quite a few of the dragon encounters. Sneaking around, not paying too much attention to the skies.

Well let's see how far I can take the main quest, here, and see if one flies up!

Try going to each hold, and talking to the assistant to the Jarl, or what ever they're called and they'll usually give you a quest on a dragon terrorizing people, go there, kill it, usually a word wall and an easy soul.

I haven't got far in the MQ and I've seen loads. One even chased me all the way up to High Horgath :).

I have had problems killing them until the last one which, very unwisely, jumped me just outside Riften and all the guards (and horses weirdly) killed it helped me slightly.

But yeah, its odd you aren't seeing many. It could be just one of those things.

Very strange that the OP is up around lvl 34 and hasn't run into any yet though...

I would be down right pissed off actually to only have the basic shouts up until that lvl!

The intense fights and the fact they just pop up randomly make dragons a really great addition to the game. I've only encounter a handful, 2 of which were blood dragons... Good times!
