Do other games have this many utterly game destroying bugs?

Post » Sat Dec 05, 2015 11:07 am

I have not played Skyrim, Oblivion, nor Elder Scrolls online, but I can't remember any game by other publishers that have this many game critical bugs that literally don't allow you to progress in the game - on all platforms of the game no less (Consoles and PC). Worse, the current patch is not fixing the Monsignor plaza bug and host of others that have forced people to shelve the game.

If I had known Bethesda was this irresponsible with their releases I never would have gotten so invested in the game. I mean, I know Bethesda is known for buggy games, but I always figured it meant lots of little things like crashes, graphic glitches, or a messed up quest here or there. Not literal termination of your game.

It just really svcks there's a whole section of my map and the story I can't play, and not only has Bethesda not commented on the crippling problems but there's no fix on the horizon. The first half of the game was so smooth and now the last 40% has been a mess. For comparison I played through all of a Witcher 3 and only had one side quest that was bugged, and that just wouldn't give me credit for completing it.

The first projected patch is so lacking, I'm just really frustrated with Bethesda because this really is a fantastic game. Just so much of it is broken.

While I've avoided Monsignor Plaza because I heard of the bug before I found the place, I'm approaching 200 hours in the game and all the bugs I've experienced have been extremely minor.

And from what I understand, the first beta patch did fix the Plaza bug but I don't do the beta thing. I wait for general release.

What exactly does this Plaza bug entail? Without any major spoilers if there are any.

Actually, for a massive open world game the amount of gamebreaking bugs on launch is remarkably few.

What is the Plaza bug, I have not heard of this yet.

Well... All Beth games have bugs, but, what, exactly is "Game Destroying" to you?

I've encountered plenty of bugs, but none of them have been "Game Breaking", let alone "Game Destroying". Of course I've been playing TES and F games for years so I'm used to it and expect them.

I have only found about 4 bugs in 100+ hours, so that is about 1 bug for every 25 hours. That is a 10 out of 10 in stability as far as I am concerned. Even Mass Effect had more bugs then that, and Bioware is one of the most stable developers I have played.

I think OP is referring to the Monsignor Plaza bug that was discovered and is, indeed, named as "Game Breaking". There are a bunch of articles and work-arounds posted about it.

I believe they said they would be fixing it in the patches.

To be fair, the Monsignor Plaza IS a game breaking bug, but I've started 3 saves and I've never had a CTD.. every time i discover that place, I think to myself "hey, its that place where lots of people are crashing. guess i got lucky again". But i'm sure it's not about luck, but the sequence in which some people are playing their game. I tend to save the MQ until last while clearing out all the side missions first, so idk.

I played games back in the day when the terms "Game Destroying" and "Game Breaking" actually meant what it sounded like.

Getting tired of people just trolling really or maybe they don't understand what those terms mean??

"Game Destroying" literally means the game is destroyed on your machine or the game destroys your other applications or hardware. "Game Breaking" means your unable to progress at all now for one I have not encountered any of those issues in hundreds of hours of play so cant say its pressing.

Depending on what quests you've done or have open, Monsignor Plaza will crash your game or a bunch of quests go bad... and you won't know it it til you try to work through them.

I've run into many issues on the PS4 where I've had to reload a game from 10 hours previous. My latest annoying problem is only one companion can be at each settlement, several companions are also broken and unusable, my "filter" to tag items is permanently greyed out and not working, half the crops at a bunch of settlements are not clickable in edit mode, I do to get noticed about settlements getting attached anymore so I show up and they fall apart in front of me with no enemies around, settlements complain about bed situation when there's 10 extra beds cal people living there, I have to go through a game of enabling disabling Strong weapons every time we warp somewhere because he can't use it nor fight til I do, Nick Valentine squats or lays down everywhere I go and is useless in combat, there's several other quests that broke and can never be finished in my game, pipboy numbers for settlements are broken for several settlements, store venders get stuck on roofs in Sanctuary, once I had over 1,000 Aid items disappear from my workbench (basically everything I'd saved from 50 hours in the game up til that point).

That's just for starters off the top of my head, and I know most of them aren't "game breaking", but that's just additional annoyances to a chunk of the game that is unavailable. I really love the game, but some of these bugs are just ridiculous. I do a lot of building, crafting, and trading, thus not being able to tag items is a major pain in the ass. Why would an "interface element" on a console just break?

It's not game breaking if you aren't forced into doing it. Clicking "Graphics" in the options menu and having it lock up, crash, and delete your save... that's game breaking. A quest you're not forced into breaking... that's just a bug.

Not sure if the Plaza bug is what I saw earlier where if you entered a specific cell (no matter from what direction) you would CDT, no error, no event log entry. If that is the same issue (I think mine was near the Bunker Hill area when I was going to retrieve a Synth?). The beta patch DID fix the problem (tho the patch notes did not specifically state it fixed that problem).

I have yet to see any bugs on the Xbox One and I have close to 100 hours logged. Sorry you got a [censored] roll of the dice. You should get the latest Batman game for PC.

It broke mine and I had to find a save from before I did anything remotely near or involving things therein. That meant I lost about 15 real world hours of playtime, not to mention the amount of time I had to spend on the Internet trying to figure out what the heck was wrong with everything. If I had not had 50 different saves to choose from, and relied on auto save/quick save I would have been screwed and the game would have been over. So yes, in this context it absolutely is game breaking.

I've played for about 160 hours on PC and have encountered perhaps 2-3 bugs during that time (they were fixed by simply loading the last save).

My game is A OK here.

Really? I just read several reports that said it wasn't fixed. Here's hoping it is!

The Batman on PC post. Did you suggest it because it's really good, or is it horribly buggy? Now in curious and want to read up on it lol.

Okay. While I've suffered the Monsignor Glitch and even the "elevator" glitch once, I have never, ever suffered any of your other complaints.

If there's beds, there's beds. The only thing that ever happens settlement wise is that, wherever I have an active television, it will shwo that there is no water, power or food until I travel there and then it's fine. Turn off the TV. Solves it.

Nick has never squatted or laid down after all this time being with him, although he (as has McReady) has sat down and acted bored, and he's a beast with almost every weapon I give him.

Strong is always equipped with his weapon, no matter where or how I travel with him. He's great at melee, but his "uh-duh" attitude kind of gets on my nerves.

It's strange that you game does this. I've been playing over 140 hours and have had nothing even vaguely similar to any of what you're saying is happening, although, in re the beds, if I happen to have beds on the 2nd floor, I do have to assign someone to a bed up there or, apparently the settlers are too dense to figure out that there's a staircase.

I'm surprised at the disappearing items thing. Never experienced that at all, although I notice that things fluctuate based on what I do at my settlements on the junk or/aid items side. I do have a container that I keep at ground level that I drop things in that I might want to sell (weapons, drugs, armor, pre-war food, etc. that I have no use for) and noticed that that is occasionally empty, but I find the stuff in my settler's inventory if I look for it. Good for them.

I'm on PS4 though. It seems like most of this sort of thing is a PC issue.

Pretty much bug free in my experience.

And I went to and cleared that plaza no problem.

There are bugs, whether people have encountered them or not. I've had one CTD (in over 150hrs of play, so I can't complain about that), terrible clipping, some quest dialogs can't be completed, apparently NPCs have a problem walking on catwalks, etc, etc; all the usual stuff I expect from Bethesda.

None of them are "game breaking." Even if there's a cell that has to be avoided, I don't count that as gamebreaking, I just go off and do something else.

Can someone explain what the game breaking bug is, please?

I've been there and didn't have any CTDs. I'm seeing some of the posts above say that it's just CTDs. Others saying it ruins quests?

As far as I've read, all reports say the plaza bug was fixed in the beta patch.

Batman AK on PC was the buggiest release of the year, and it looks like it may never get fixed properly. It was so bad that WB pulled it from sale on Steam.

It's the poster boy for game breaking bugs...almost unplayable from what I hear. Not sure myself...being a Xbox One console peon.

I was hoping to hear you were on PC or XBox One then it would make this a PS4 issue that is easier to fix. So now I'm kinda depressed since I too am on PS4 and things are so messed up in my game, but not in yours. I'm way over a hundred hours as well.

Funny thing about companions having to be at separate settlements. I actually thought it was some lame game design until I complained to my elderly Uncle (he's on PS4 too) about it and he told me he had all of his 8 companions at Red Rocket. I think it might have been when I got Piper that I noticed I could not store her at Sanctuary though Preston, Dogmeat, and Codsworth were there together. I switched to Codsworth for a while and he could no longer be stored at Santuary when I was done with him nor the settlement I had Piper at. Ironically a couple of days ago, briefly I was able to have Strong hang out there, but after that - nobody again. Even if I try to "move" them with Settlement commands Santuary and others are greyed out.

The bed situation is ridiculous. All the beds are easy to get to, I see npc's sleeping in all of them, and the beds are all in giant rooms on main floor (none on second floor). Plenty of space so there's no doubt they can get in them and each bed does show up in settlement bar. But people are unhappy due to having to sleep in shifts.

If Bethesda would be kind enough I'd love to send them my save files so they can see what's going on, but they never contact me or follow up.
