Out of combat HP regen... :)

Post » Thu May 10, 2012 8:09 pm

Well! Thanks god that i'm gonna play it on PC! I'l just immediately turn off the automatic health regeneration! Morrowind had no Magicka/HP Regen unless sleeping, Oblivion had just Magicka regen and now Skyrim has both HP and magicka regen. Bethesda surely are making this game way to easy. I hope they release the construction kit with the game so i can remove the regeneration script before start playing!

Good for you.

I think of Skyrim as a role-playing game and not a survival game. In Fallout's I want to experience survival, finding ammo and food to even keep me alive! But in Skyrim, I just want to role-play.

Magicka regen means also OOC health regen thanks to spells. So Oblivion had it, too. ;)

You make me jelly of the fact my computer isnt a beefy enough rig to handle skyrim.

However asGorbad posted i will be mainly into roleplaying and therefore shall not be so annoyed by the HP regen

Oh no thats gamebreaking.

Its actually a good thing. I hated that I didnt have any way to get health back up when i got out of combat in MW and FO3 and i didnt have any potions/food/restoration spells/stimpaks spells.

Well in Daggerfall Fatigue does not recover on its own, and when you run out of fatigue you pass out (and usually get eaten) there was also special Medical skill thats
helps you heal faster so that it takes less time to rest and recover your health, magicka, and fatigue. Because all quests have time limits, it can be a bad thing if you spend too much time resting; a high skill here can cut your naptimes shorter and let you get on with the adventuring.

I don't think HP and magicka regen depend on script more like there is couple of variable for this.

I usually waited in Oblivion to re-generate my health and magicka. I know, it's stupid. But yeah, I kinda like this new addition to the game.

Oblivion had health regen all you had to do was find a quite spot and keep castin heal self till u was back to full health. Health regen in skyrim onli works when your not in combat so whats the difference???

I would have liked to not have it regenerate, but I'm fine with it.
At least combat looks more deadly so potions and food won't be completely useless.

Ah but what is role-play without risk?

Yeah, honestly I don't see the problem with regenerating out of combat. It doesn't happen quickly, so if you're in the middle of a dungeon or something you're still going to have to keep you health up between fights via other means, unless you plan on standing around a lot. And if it's in the wilderness, if I'm running around long enough for my health to regen on its own, then I don't see the difference (beyond you purest of the pure RP'ers) between letting it do that and casting a spell. :-/

Also, in regards to realism, automatic healing takes place in real life too. It's why we don't bleed to death if we cut one little cut. I think Dragon Age handled this best. Get severely injured and your max health cap was lowered until you dealt with the injury(ies).

Most people are going to fix themselves after combat. By healing spell spamming, or waiting, or potion chugging. IN any of those cases, they will be healed, there is no risk, and it just is a habit/hassle of the game.

HP regen takes a little bit of that hassle away.

Hopefully it's not a "hide-and-not-clash-with-the-enemy-for-a-few-seconds" kind of regeneration (like RDR). Would be too immediate. I wouldn't mind a steady regeneration whilst rambling in and out of combat though. Something like 1-5 points of HP per second (or higher depending on the amount of HP and such).

^This. In Skyrim, opposed to Oblivion, you don't have to push a button to get your health back. If you think not pushing a button after every fight makes the game easier, you need to revise your opinion. Seriously.

one of the 3 things i don't like in skyrim (wich is far less than oblivion :P)

No, it doesn't.

And don't make me list "pure RPGs" with regenerating health

name it .P

if a pure RPG has auto reg, ooc
then the infight reg is limited very much

skyrim pots have no cd, healing spells too

Magicka has limits and not regenerate by self in Arena, Daggerfall and Morrowind, sleeping impossible without of bed, simple waiting will not restore all your Magicka and Health without consequences like chance be ambushed during rest what can cancel all restoration effect, in Daggerafall there even Medical skill thats affect how well you can heal self during rest.
