Patch 1.2 Any official word?

Post » Wed May 16, 2012 9:50 pm

Like the title says, are we gonna get some sort of official word about how you guys plan to fix the patch up? Maybe a bit more than the "we are aware..." canned response?

Most likely not until later this evening or tomorrow morning, at the earliest. I'm sure they are baffled and disappointed as much as we are right now. We only have to worry about our ONE 60 buck game. They have to worry about their hundreds of thousands of dollars they've invested to fix millions of peoples games.

It sounds like there will be a hotfix soon, I'm sure they never intended for all this to happen, most likely there will be a much smaller patch within the next few days.

Where did you hear about a hotfix?

Coming from the same guy who said yesterday, "The texture problem is fixed, get over it, move on..." I find all of this very doubful. We will likely have to wait 3 weeks again for a new patch to be released. They have to fix the new problems, ontop of the old ones. Which could take weeks unto itself. Then they have to go through microsofts certification, which again, can take weeks.

Don't expect any "hot fixes" anytime soon. We all likely have a wait on our hands.

Didnt they say before release some bugs can be fixed on the fly without the need for a full on patch?

Maybe microsoft should help out bethesda with this mess since their 360 users are being affected ....perhaps lend thim a couple of good coders or QA testers ...sony as well should get involved...just saying ...seems bethesda keeps screwing over and over rolling in their own excrements.....

I think I remember hearing something like that. Clearly though it's not the case. Everything has to go through microsofts certification before it's available to the public. Perhaps they were talking about the PC version.

What exactly makes you think that there's some kind of hotfix? You say it sounds like, but from where?

I may be wrong but I think Bethesda may be "looking into it".
Man they should put some of the pr lines into the next game for fun.

Nowhere, it's not possible. It's just wishful thinking. Look at it this way, if it took them two weeks to code the last patch, and all that did is cause more problems. How long do you think it will take to fix the new problems adressed with the patch AND the old ones as well? Unless bethesda does some mass hiring the wait will realistically be longer than it was before. If they could "hot fix" these problems so easily then why didn't they just do it during patch 1.1? Honestly a lot of these problems seem more complicated than a simple hot fix.

I would say its based on intuition... They wont let a game breaking bug go on for weeks or longer than a few days.... The resistance/weakness magic is a big part of its character development and overall gameplay. Being the holidays coming up, sales and customer service are of utmost improtance right now... It'll be interesting to see how they handle this situation. Personally, I have none of that magic on my weapons/armor and have seen no issues with the patch AT ALL in my gameplay. But obviously, many are being affected in game breaking fashion. Shall be interesting.

Well the texture issue was getting a lot of bad publicity from almost every single gaming website. A company would not be happy about that, and still it took them this long to release the patch. Hunker down people. It's going to be another wait, guarantee it.

Good point, it should and will affect sales if it is not addressed quickly. (not counting the 3m+ who have it already)

Let me give you a short lesson in company reasoning. Bethesda now is in full damage control mode.

That they've stopped communication on all channels is not a good sign, because it means that normal crisis PR contingencies are suspended. If it would take more than a week to get the hotfix live - be prepared, that there will be no communication on this topic until christmas.

Each thing they put out from now on that isn't a timetable on when they will be able to fix it will just kindle up the s*storm in the public eye - this is exactly the wrong time for something like this to happen.

In any case they probably will try everything to get a patch out for at least christmas day, or otherwise the outfall multiplies on bad word of mouth alone - and from there on Bethesda is on track for a little rebranding exercise...

Fire Attronachs dying from fire. Dragons flying backwards. Level 40+ survivability of random dragon encounter - none. Yep, great game to put under the christmas tree - i guess...

What are the odds that Bethesda can pull the 1.2 patch and put 1.1 back online in a speedy manner? Or is there a ton of Microsoft red tape that will prevent them from doing this? I'm disappointed as I have already downloaded patch 1.2 but cannot revert to 1.1 due to the xbox 360 limitations.

To Bethesda staff - any hope in this? You have an amazing game here, possibly the best I've ever played, quite a shame to have to put it down now that I'm hopelessly addicted!

Many gaming websites are holding it not to destroy bethesda ...thats for sure ...some (the few) keeps the legit journalism and report everything like eurogamer did early this morninn.... G4, IGN, Gamespot, Gametrailers, havent even mentioned the issue yet i dont know maybe their clock in time is later this afternoon ..but yeah right now the only thing that is holding bethesda is their prestige and o long history of great games and titles...but when something goes wrong that cannot hold forever and u will be ponished ...just like they are right now by a complete deboted community of players...

Personally, I have none of that magic on my weapons/armor and have seen no issues with the patch AT ALL in my gameplay.

It's not just weapons and armor.

It's racial bonusses. Nords don't get their resistance to frost. Dunmer don't get their resistance to fire. Argonians don't get their resistance to disease. Bretons don't get their resistance to magicka. Redguards don't get their resistance to poison. That's half of all playable races nerfed right of the bat.

It affects perked improvements, like Alteration's "Magic Resistance", which now does absolutely nothing. It affects standing stones, most prominently Lord's Stone. It affects diseases : Vampirism should give you frost resistance, disease resistance, and poison resistance, and it now does none of those things.

It affects spells, because nothing can resist your spells anymore. Your soul traps and paralyzes will never fail because the beings that would normally have a resist chance on them won't anymore.

And it affects NPCs and creatures. Hell, Flame Atronachs now get burned by their own fire! They die in one anothers' fatal explosions!

If they want to fix that problem quickly, they must put back 1.1v patch. Is there something impossible? I'm still waiting for my 1.1. Can't play with 1.2.
JUST GET BACK 1.1 AND THEN WORK FOR FIXES ON 1.2! The best solution. I think a tons of people will agree.

I don't think that is the issue in the least. As i've been saying in different threads of the last couple days, patches for games of this size that have so many situational triggers and statistical effects are not easy to produce in a fast turn-around. That said, i'm very surprised at (and without knowing more details) dissapointed in Bethesda, and very confused as to how this even made it to certification. That is unless something happened between their completion of the 1.2 patch and it's platform certification.

The texture issue stemmed only from installation to the hard drive, so there was at least a work-around for that bug. But with the magic issue that has arisen, Bethesda, like someone said earlier, are in damage control mode, because this literally released hours ago. A good point someone else stated, was now the IGNs, G4's, Gamespots, of the gaming world are ready to jump on Bethesda and get their publicity ratings up, all at the same time, Skyrim's sales taking a blow. I think Bethesda right now are calling in staff, temps, whoever, to help break down their patch and figure out what exactly is causing these issues. I believe there is a way to have Microsoft not have to approve/certify an update if it is under a certain size MB wise, I believe.
