Wow, even the UI on the site is in italics. Weird.

I happen to be paranoid of italics.

And atychiphobia.

Just a hunch, but after a quick look at, what appears to be, the origin of the problem - when he quotes Wikipedia - instead of the usual
it's
Probably throwing off the rest of the page.

Edit: So basically what I'm saying is, if you bold the title of a quote, it will reproduce this error. If not, then I'm wrong. Maybe.

Interesting theory. Still hilarious though. XD

WHY IS EVERYTHING IN ITALICS.

Edit: figures. This is like that scene in a movie where the guy/girl is trying to communicate with their date over the loud music, and when they're finally loud and clear enough to be heard over the music, the music stops and they embarrass themselves by shouting in the middle of the silent, crowded room.

What do you mean "everything is in italics"?

According to my findings, this thread has been tampered with by a moderator who has a fear of straight lettering!

EDIT: Nevermind, the thread is ok now.

You do know the meaning of the word "phobia" right?
"An extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something"
Seems my reason is as good as any for a "phobia". Though rational if you ask me. Who enjoys having hundreds of critters crawling all over them?
Everything that's supposedly "irrational" has some logic behind it, it's just not looked into enough.
But mostly all the people I know that are scared of spiders are girls so I'd want to know what the link between them is.
Even people who don't mind creepy crawlies wouldn't appreciate that but having that idea in your head everytime you see one is rather foolish.

Which is why it's an irrational fear: calling such people "foolish" implies that there's a choice, and seems unhelpfully judgemental.

Never called the person foolish, I called the idea foolish. Like I said there is a reason for everything a person thinks or feels, nothing just goes *poof* and it happens

Well I suppose that could be a layman's term for "irrational fear", then! I must admit that I find my own phobic tendencies to be extremely annoying. Shame that isn't enough to make them go away, though...

One of my past girlfriends had a phobia of vinegar, one of the oddest things I ever heard.
One time a wasp flew up her trousers and stung her bum, I offered her one of my salt&vinegar crisps - I think she was more upset by my offer than the actual sting. She refused to treat it and instead just stood around the whole day.

Oh wow I read the thread title as if it was some kind of name, not the plural form of phobia. Heights; I'm not a fan of heights, but I don't think it's an irrational fear... what's irrational about not wanting to fall to your death?

Phobias is a great name for a Wizard.

Because you won't really fall to your death unless you climb over the balcony railing, I guess? I sometimes feel a little dizzy standing on top of tall things in case I fall, thus contradicting what I just said, but one of my dreams is to go skydiving. Would you feel okay about standing on top of a tall building if you had a parachute I wonder?

An irrational fear is being scared of buttons. That's an actual phobia. Being scared of heights is a survival thing imo.

IMO, it will actually get you killed if you go to a high place. Instead of thinking rationally, your fears get a hold of you and you might faint or slip, lose balance etc.

There is always a reason why a person has a phobia, but it is never logical. That is the definition of irrational, something that isn't logical. I personally have arachnophobia and if I had to state a reason why I would probably say that its because of their really fast start-and-stop, jerking movement. This is illogical because there is virtually no way a spider near where I live could harm me and they also have very little interest me. I know these very logical facts, but they don't affect my phobia because its irrational.

Ok, I admit this created a rather funny scenario in my head.

The dark (I have to sleep with a TV on), spiders, and quiet. If I don't have sound at all times I freak out.

I was scared of the dark up until about the age of 15-16. I then just started to embrace it a bit and now I find it quite soothing.

I'm 17 and I am not afraid of the dark anymore, but I like being able to see at least the outline of the objects in my room. So I just leave the light on in the hallway and leave my door opened a crack, then I call it good.

i thought so too, but i'm surprised by how many guys are scared of spiders.
i don't get it though. most people have never been hurt by a spider. i think it's just a fear people teach themselves because it's common.

Never been afraid of the dark, only that which resides within it...

Spoiler
Namely dogs, the creatures I have a real phobia for. I find myself more jumpy for sounds that imitate a growl or a barking sound or other general dog noises during the dark because during the day I of course see better around me that there is no dog nearby but during the night when I don't see as well I could easily believe for a moment that a dog managed to sneak right up behind me unnoticed.
